The most impressive looking next gen graphics so far

People still think that Hellblade 2 trailer was truly representative of the game's gameplay?

Complete delusion.

Horizon 2 was also not real-time, most of the time.

There's just too much happening on the screen to be real.

Yeah, so far there are very few examples of "Wow, now THAT is Next-Gen!"

The Unreal 5 Tech Demo definitely has that wow factor but it's just a tech demo. The track record of actual games looking as good as Unreal Engine tech demos speaks for itself. It just doesn't happen.
There were a couple of games in the ps5 reveal that arguably looked better:

1. Flight Sim
2. Ratchet
3. Kena

I think development of stuff like Hellblade and Horizon is too early to tell how they will actually look gameplay-wise, so I'm not counting them.

So far Ratchet & Clank has been the most impressive gameplay footage. Was floored by the character models with so much going on on screen. This does not even begin to get into haw crazy the world hoping was.

So far for me it is Demon's Souls and RE8 which weirdly used both assets for last gen version and new ones:

Demon's Souls is CLEARLY way above BB or DS3, a true next gen game:

RE8 when shows next gen assets looks trully amazing

It's funny how a certain contingent now puts "Hellblade" on just about the highest pedestal possible post MS acquisition. Hellblade 1 really wasn't that good and it didn't even look that state of the art. It got ported to switch for crying out loud (also, I love the switch).

Best confirmed graphics shown so far for next gen are R&C, maybe Horizon 2 just in terms of detail and scope and obviously the unreal 5 demo was better than anything else ever seen in real time. Not a full game but playable software so it counts IMO. Looking forward to MS showing something on Xbox that can join this list. Gameplay has to be shown.

Hellblade 2 is prerendered at 60% of 4k at 23.976 fps (Even then, mostly closeup of one crazy character on screen showing animations that's not even the best we've seen in current gen games.

Flight Simulator (You should wait for gameplay and you will see how it really looks)

Best looking next gen graphics so far:

Not the best graphics I've seen, but I want to see a hud, with cockpit. I want to see someone start his plane, engage all his switches and take off with a conventional gameplay camera.....
From the Flight Sim thread...

It's truly the definition of "next generation". As maybe stated earlier in the available information, you can alter the weather while in game. In that, the engine can switch to "real-time weather" (which uses Live data for the entire planet) and the players preference in an instant, while flying or on the runway. For example you take off from Beijing to Australia. The weather may be a bit calm as you lift off but you may prefer to fly through a thunderstorm. Simply press a button (mini menu tab), adjust the cloud layers (there's many) and it'll generate everything. Rain, frost at higher elevation, snow, turbulent winds, even lighting which reflects not only from the outside of the aircraft but inside the cabin.

In one instance, I tried to go through a thunderstorm with a dual turbo prob. Got up to about 21k feet in an attempt to fly over it. The entire plane was shaking nearing the crest (top). It was tough to control with the rapid changes in wind dynamics. The windshield then started to frost up/ice over. I couldn't see a thing. This was a shock to me because i did not expect this level of realism. I then switched to external view. Ice actually accumulates where it should on the planes; flaps, etc. The plane eventually lost manual control and went into a spiral. I thought that was it. Warning sounds beemed loudly through the cabin. Went back to interior view and "zoomed" in to the cockpit controls to see if i could find anything temperature related. This was a challenge as the plane was going down through the storm clouds. There, at the left side panel near the flight stick there were temperature controls (anti-icing). Each for windshield defrost, cabin heat, exterior, etc. I flicked those switches fast as i could. Things started to defrost a bit as i could almost pull out and adjust axis from the descent. But it was too late. The speed of my descent through the storm really didn't thaw the wings in time. It was a ride from hell. Into the sea i went. Next i'm going to try a flight around the Bermuda Triangle. If the devs decide to throw in some vintage World War 2 Grumman TBM Avenger torpedo bombers (Flight 19 December 5, 1945), it would really be something. In short, "historical missions" would be great.

"This looks too good to be real"
next someone will say
"This just looks like last gen with slightly high res"

Horizon looks totally in line with what you would expect from the hardware.

Horizon Forbidden West shits on Hellblade II from a high distance, it's far easier to render "impressive" looking scenes when it's all dark as fuck as opposed to bright and colorful and even then. Horizon looked better, Ratchet is also amongst the more impressive looking games of next gen so far and if you can't see that then you either need glasses or you're a raging fanboy.

Although personally I accept that the Unreal 5 demo looks better than anything shown since, I'm not sure it's a fair fight.

First, it was running at like half the resolution of the native 4K games shown at the PS5 event, so that's a pretty big advantage.

Second, it's got that very appealing photo realistic style. Almost nothing shown last week went for photorealism. I think the one game that did, RE VIII, was also the one that - not by coincidence - could match the Unreal demo for fidelity.

Not in many scenes, but the one with the chandelier, and the scenes with Chris Redfield, are imo the best graphics shown at the event, and pretty much match the Unreal demo.

Gotta be this for me, here's some more

I'm not even a R&C fan

I'd put this over flight sim and Hellblade. I think Halo could be impressive when we see gameplay.
Just think, if the XSX really is more powerful/has better looking games, then these will be some of the worst looking exclusives all gen. How good is that! That R+C in a few years time will be classed as looking average to poor.

This gen is going to be awesome

Stylized art from over a decade ago still looks good so I don't think anyone will call ratchet a poor looking game anytime soon.
Horizon would be more likely but I can't see the difference in power being a bigger factor than it being made by one of the best teams in the industry. I think it will hold up even at the end of the gen.

Would love to be wrong and for later releases to absolutely destroy it. but these are my thoughts for now.

I suppose it's a fair point. The Order 1886 is still the best looking game this gen.
