The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

I was told to post my question from the stupid questions thread here:

I saw that Netflix was coming to my country later this year, and since everybody talks about it I'm wondering how it works.

Do they have a load of movies that you can stream all the time or is it a selectable library? Do they have a lot of old movies or mostly new blockbusters? Will the supply suck compared to the American version of Netflix? (I've heard it does in the UK)

If someone could describe Netflix and how it works with a few words that would be helpful!

There is a collection you can choose from. It's large. They have a lot of...well it's really from everywhere. Your supply may vary - due to being a different collection based on where you are. However, if you go to the Netflix thread they can hook you up with a way to access the American library.

And for some reason I thought I was in the wrasslin' thread, so you're in the right place and I wondered why people directed you here. :|

Only just recently started using Netflix a bit more after having first used it months ago when I was home for Christmas on my brothers account. And now that I’ve finally accessed the U.S. Netflix, the selection is definitely a lot more appealing when I want to browse for a movie to watch.

Watched a couple last night, and after seeing the recommendations in this thread, I watched Meet Bill. It was ok, had a few moments of laughs and some fun dialogue, but overall, I was fairly bored. The kid reminded me of an old friend I had growing up, and the sort of midlife crisis Bill found himself in, was similar to what I am going through. So I wasn’t really able to enjoy it as a fun movie, and just ended up thinking more about my own life and what the heck I’m doing. Lol

Also watched The Thirteenth Floor. I was excited for this one after seeing it in the sci-fi recommendation thread. I absolutely loved it! A big recommendation for anyone to check it out. Loved the tone and the general sense of a whodunit with a sci-fi spin that does turn into a bit of a mind bender.

Shane - check out The Warrior. Nate Marquardt and Rumble Johnson are in it. The actual fighitng and moves in the movie are a little 'professional wrestlingish' but overall its a pretty good movie.

I watched Warrior ages ago :p I've mentioned it before in the mma thread I believe. I actually really enjoyed it, the mma in the movie is indeed incredibly outlandish and dramatized for film, but it was a fun watch and it's indeed a great recommendation.

Not movies, but lately I've been itching for new sitcoms/comedy shows and have gotten into a couple shows I've avoided for some reason. Got into Workaholics last week and discovered Archer yesterday. Both great shows. I enjoyed the first episode of Archer enough to continue even though it didn't really seem like my kind of thing, but it seems to just get better and better, although I can't tell if it's because the writing improves or I'm just getting used to the characters. Workaholics is pretty dudebro-ish but it's a lot of fun. Recommend both to anyone who hasn't given them a try.

Tried getting into Better Off Ted last night as well but I just wasn't feeling it.

Thanks. I have also heard stuff like "it's on Netflix right now", does that mean that some movies and shows are just available some times? And I have also heard that you can queue stuff, does that mean that you can't watch everything immediately?

I appreciate your help!

Not times as in AM/PM - but for some there are expiration dates in the future.

Netflix is also coming to my country later this year so I decided to give it a try for 30 days (free test period). I live outside of the US so I can only use the US "watch instantly/streaming service" and it's rubbish. The selection is just terrible. +90% of all movies are crap like: 2-Headed Shark Attack. :(

I can't even start to imagine how crappy the selection will be when they release over here...

Also watched The Thirteenth Floor. A big recommendation for anyone to check it out.

It's actually available via streaming so I will give it a try. :)

Just wanted to let you guys know that I had the chance to check out Unguarded from ESPN's 30 for 30 about Chris Herren and I absolutely LOVED IT! I highly recommend it! Can anyone explain why Netflix hasn't bundled all of the 30 for 30's together? Seems pretty lazy that they havent done so.

Let me know what you think of it! Hope you enjoy it as well.

Tonight's selection was something else I've been meaning to watch for a long time. Before The Devil Knows You're Dead. Wow, this was just incredible. I've been a big fan of Phillip Seymour Hoffman for a while, and this was just terrific work, and Ethan Hawke really steals moments too. I have a soft spot for this sort of convergent story-telling, and I really loved how it all came together. Some very haunting music pieces as well. Big recommendation.

I may be in a vulnerable spot right now, including a half a bottle of wine, but this movie was quite good. Feels like the first half is forgettable, but once the fighting gets going, it's up there as far as fight/boxing movies go.

Super 8 is up - I really enjoyed that movie. Really captured the feeling of a Spielberg (appropriately enough) 1980s coming of age action/adventure movie very well.

Sorry for the double post but I got a recommendation for one of the more fascinating documentaries I've seen recently called Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of Toynbee Tiles

http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/R...y_of_the_Toynbee_Tiles/70170048?trkid=2361637

It's about these tiles found on roads for the past 30 years in northeast US and South America that has a message based on theories presented by Arnold Toynbee and 2001: A Space Odyssey that dead humans can be resurrected scientifically on Jupiter. Just as fascinating as the messages themselves is the search for the person creating and laying these tiles.

Do you guys think 'The Killing' from AMC is alright? I might watch it this week.
Season 1 starts great and gradually drops deeper and deeper into bullshit until it reaches the mentally vacant finale. Did not watch season 2. I'd recommend just about any other show you haven't seen, especially if those shows include Breaking Bad, The Wire, Parks and Recreation, Community, Eastbound and Down, Louie, Childrens Hospital, The Shield, Mad Men...anything.

Loved season 1 until the final minute of the last episode where the writers/producers went YOINK! I could be wrong but it seemed likely that the show went from being a one season thing and then got renewed at the last second. I still haven't begun watching s2 yet but even attempting to watch s2 will probably annoy me. I don't want to be 'Lost'ed again.

Farewell(L' Affaire Farewell)

In this thinking man's spy thriller, KGB agent Sergei Grigoriev (Emir Kusturica) plans to hand over hard evidence that proves the depth of his agency's penetration of U.S. intelligence, in a one-man crusade to bring down the Soviet empire.

I enjoyed this movie and I wondered while watching how much was fiction and how much was based on true events. Because if it was true, the KGB had the plans for the space shuttle, the floor plans and security layout of the White House, and the nuclear launch codes.

The Killing's S2 fixes a lot of the wrongs caused by S1. If they had cut out a lot of the garbage and fluff, the series would be a good 16-20 episode series instead of the rocky 26 episodes they did have. So if you liked S1 up until that last minute, while far from perfect S2 is still definitely worth watching. You won't be Lost'ed.

There seems to be wildly mixed opinions on this movie, but I really liked it.

Money Train is pretty decent and has J-Lo boobies.

Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but Poirot (starring David Suchet) now has several seasons up on Netflix. For the longest time, they'd had NOTHING.

Also includes subtitles, if (like my wife) you find the accents to be impenetrable.

I watched that the other week and really enjoyed it, definitely worth a watch.

I've been watching the comedy central roasts lately, I'd never seen one before but I watched the Shatner one and it was hilarious, I just started watching the Charlie Sheen one this morning.

The Flying Scotsman was decent... kinda predictable, but had a few interesting wrinkles, especially if you're not familiar with the story it's based on.

Also, if you're a Breaking Bad fan and like the actress who plays Lydia... she has a major part in this and is really hot despite the mom jeans she wears for half the movie. And being hot in those things is no small feat.

The Killing was pretty solid. Not terrible by any means. There are much worse shows out there that people seem to enjoy. :P Seems like people got butt hurt when they didn't solve the murder within one season.

Everyone just go watch Veronica Mars Season 1. :P

not really. I was already starting to hate the show long before they copped out on the original premise of the show. the ahmed stuff was silly, the constant rain got silly, the writing continued to deteriorate. not revealing the killer was just the cherry on top of the shit sundae.

I watched Warrior and Goon.

Warrior is ok. I felt like it was trying too hard to be gritty. Like it was self conscious about it or something. And the story of some rich dude deciding to do an MMA tournament with the top fighters in the world just for kicks and having a completely unknown fighter with no fights and a washed up has been be involved was just too much for me. That being said, the performances were really strong. The scene with Nolte and Hardy after Nick relapsed was amazing. Joel Edgerton really nailed the worry and vulnerability of his character. But the story was just so silly to me. I mean, pretty much all movies are full of contrived situations because that's how plots work. But the ones in this movie were too much for me.

Then Kurt Angle hits a full on pro wrestling style powerbomb and a Karelin Lift INTO the cage, which was ludicrous. I'm not big on sports movies in general, though, so I was kind of biased to the start. I really only watched it for Tom Hardy. I didn't even know Nick Nolte was in it being awesome.

Goon, I really liked. It was funny and had a lot of heart. I know I just said I'm not that into sports movies, but what I really meant is I'm not into serious sports movies. I enjoy comedy sports movies. This was the best sports comedy movie I've seen since Happy Gilmore. I really enjoyed it and I don't give the slightest fuck about hockey.

Loved Goon. Such a great flick.

So who's up for starting a petition to get rid of the crap they've added to the end of tv shows? Automatically playing the next one and ruining the credits? No option to turn it off? This is just stupid.
Yeh this is very annoying, I hate it. Often it'll kick in before the credits start! And for shows that continue even after the credits are rolling it's fucking crap. This needs to be an option so you can turn it off (on console too).

So as someone who hasn't had the misfortune of the newest Netflix version yet, is there anyway you can stop the countdown? How does Netflix know when a show gets to the credits? Has there been any cases where shows cut off before the credits?

On PC you can just click on the window where the movie or tv show is still playing and it will regain focus and full screen and ignore the "next" stuff.

Omg is The Event awful.

Please tell me that this show pays off in the long run.

Cancelled on a cliffhanger. We gave up about 6 episodes in when it became obvious that the show was going to drag everything out to the breaking point by having characters act as idiotically as possible and withholding information.
