The Netflix Recommendation Thread of Dope Movies

It's really bad for workaholics. That show has stuff happening during the credits. I do enjoy the play next episode feature because it skips the previously on sections of shows like Sons of Anarchy.

Just thought I'd give a heads up that the complete series of Everybody Loves Raymond will be added 9/1.

Damn, Christmas in September.

Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work is pretty entertaining. I only ever knew her from stupid commercials. Turns out she's an excellent stand-up and funny all around.

Yeah that really irritates me. The movie I was watching last night had additional scenes mixed in with the credits. It kinda reminded me of watching a TV show and having the credits being interrupted with, "ON THE NEXT EPISODE OF...." I hope they do something about that.

Ugh. Yeah, that's really annoying. At least Netflix doesn't have those ads for other shows that take up a third of the screen DURING the show. Yet...

Hey guys I'm looking for some good comedies and documentaries to watch. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed The Trip. It was a very charming British comedy about two guys going on a week-long road trip across Northern England to visit great restaurants. A very smart movie with some nice laughs. The impressions of actors they do to entertain themselves were fantastic. The shots of the countryside were also gorgeous. Overall, a great little comedy.

Kung Pao: Enter the Fist is one of the funniest comedies I have seen. I discovered it on streaming recently, but I imagine most have already seen it before.

UFOs: The Secret History- I haven't seen it yet, but I hear it is a really good documentary on the subject (there was a thread on it the other day). Regardless of what you think or believe about the topic. Looking forward to watching this one soon.

I never saw it.

Nostalgia aside, is it still good? Does it hold up? How much cheese does it have?

One of my favorite movies of all time!

It's a FANTASTIC movie! The only thing outdated about it are the special effects, which are pretty infrequent, or so says me. It also might take a little bit for you to really get into it. I'm assuming you know the movie/mini-series is 7 hours long, so you have to have to give it a real chance before possibly turning it off. At least watch halfway through the first episode on Netflix.

As far as "cheese" goes, there's a good balance of silly moments, genuine humor, dark/scary scenes, plot twists, emotional moments and even romance. Plenty for everybody to love. Really good "girlfriend movie", I'd say. But certainly equally enjoyable for a guy too.

About the infamous public housing development.

Really disappointed that they haven't put up Workaholics S2 yet (unless they did since the last time I checked) considering we are already knee deep in season 3.

EPSN film's "30 for 30" is streaming now.
Just watched the one about Bartmen and the Cubs. They could of trimmed about 30 minutes from the doc though. Overall thumbs up.

I learned that the ball was demolished and the remains were steamed into spaghetti sauce.

At least 45 minutes was them replaying the foul ball over and over. Then breaking it down like an episode of CSI. : D

Overall a great doc from 30 for 30. Not my favorite, but very good. For me The Two Escobars is still the best one and really one of the best documentaries I've ever seen.

Does anyone have some 30 for 30 recommendations for someone from outside the US who doesn't follow the major US-centric sports (American football, baseball and also basketball)?

I recently thoroughly enjoyed Senna, for example, and am in the mood for some sports documentaries.

Miller Time. The Two Escobars. The Fab Five.

I loved Pony Excess, but I don't know how compelling that is out of this country. Certainly the best production level of any of the first batch of films.

"Winning Time - Reggie Miller vs The Knicks" (biased pick), "June 17, 1994" and "The U" were great.

Most of them are good enough to watch even if you don't follow the sport. I cant stand soccer but loved The Two Escobars.

June 17th 1994 is a very good unnarrated documentary on the day of the OJ Simpson bronco chase. Just very well laid out on all the events of the day that went almost completely unnoticed against the backdrop of the Simpson case. I remember watching the NBA finals during the chase and they had a picture in picture of the bronco chase up in the corner and probably a lot of people were like me and wished that they would flip it around and put the NBA game up in the small window and feature the bronco chase.

9/11 was a bigger moment in my life, and hard to believe as it was happening, but that bronco chase is by far the most surreal thing I've ever witnessed. People lining up on the freeway with handmade signs cheering OJ on like it was a football game. All these years later it is still surreal to see it.

Edit: So far the only bad 30 for 30 episode I've seen is the one on Tim Richmond. It was about as exciting to watch as a nascar race.

Workaholics is a pretty hilarious show to check out.

Awesome thanks guys! I'll check these out

Is Kung Pao a good movie? I see it was recommended, but for some reason I just figured it wouldn't be my cup of tea. I'll definitely give it a try if it's worth my time!

Great doc, a little too long though. I was dissapointed that
they couldn't get Bartman to agree to an interview
though. I wonder if he ever will...

"The announcement" is what I think it's called. It about Magic Johnson and HIVs, pretty moving.

So who's up for starting a petition to get rid of the crap they've added to the end of tv shows? Automatically playing the next one and ruining the credits? No option to turn it off? This is just stupid.

I love it. An option to turn it off would be welcome though.

I just want the option to turn the shit off, and not just for TV shows, but for films as well. Having that screen pop up is annoying and serves no purpose.

What platform is this on? I use the 360 and haven't noticed it happening at all.

Edit: durr. Lrn 2 reed... Use the 360 then man :)

It's great once you get past the first shockingly awful 5-10 minutes. Once the Poser baby goes away it's good.

Pro-Pacers Propoganda. Awful. I heard Miller himself produced it so, no surprise it wasn't completely centered around how the mid-90s Knicks became the heart of basketball for all time.

Whats the name of that disease Patrick Ewing has? You know, the one that makes him allergic to NBA championships and makes him sweat bullets even in a snow storm.

I think it's called the "we make a lot of money, but we spend a lot" disease.

The 30 for 30 on the OJ debacle was quite interesting. TV stations getting their signals crossed. Clips of Costas trying to figure out how they were going to cut between the OJ updates and the NBA Finals. I didn't realize how suicidal OJ was. I thought it was an act, but he wasn't that good of an actor (outside of Naked Gun:)

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but:

The woman

Thought this was a unique & fucked-up little flick.

...and Sean Bridgers (of Deadwood fame) chews up a lot of scenery. He's fantastic in it. :D

Thanks for this (and someone else mentioned it) watched it today and really liked it, although that guy reminded me a little too much of Will Ferell for my liking

There was a couple of points I missed I think, didn't realise it was a sequel of sorts
