Btw, iphone users if you are not aware, the free application i.tv allows you to add movies to your watch instantly queue. You can't browse genres but you can search and the search have recommendations that branch off, so its easy enough to find content. It also lets you know if anything from your local TV listings is available on Netflix.

I use my iPhone to add to my instant queue, just from the normal netflix site. Doesn't seem to be any features of the site missing.

I have a question... maybe sounds stupid but, can someone explain to me exactly what is Netflix and it's advantages on the 360, I know you can stream movies and TV shows, but how do that work, it's the same as the X360's video marketplace? and the pricing please...

Thanks in advance.

Its like plan. Like 8 or 7 bucks a month and you can stream movies instantly. Its pretty cool, you have a vast selection of movies to choose from (well alot of movies but not always new ones or ones that you want)

Basically you put it in your queue from netflix.com and it instantly sends it over to your xbox through the magics of the internet. From there you just press play.

I have heroes season 3 and it auto adds new episodes a day after they release.

Thanks!, shame that my DSL speed sucks big time
(2Mb)
, so... no streaming for me :(

Nothing those nerdy guys did in that movie made sense. I mean it was like a Disney Good vs Evil movie. It even had the nerdy henchmen....

I rated it 4 or 5 stars.

I liked how the henchman would call Billy with updates on Steve's Donkey Kong scores. You would've thought they were trading nuclear secrets with how serious they both were and the look of concern and anguish on the closeups

um, that's good enough to stream. I'm on DSL. The quality will just be crappy, but no big deal if you have a small display...........or are used to Wii.

Living in Oblivion
Dead Mans Shoes
Alien
Pans Labyrinth
Videodrome
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds Tour feat. Jonas Brothers

Yeah that part was ridiculously nerdy/weaselly/lame. But the worst part was how they invaded his home privacy to see if he was head to toe legit.

Can anyone tell me when Netflix updates their "Watch Instantly" library?

Is it regularly scheduled? Do they do it weekly? Bi-weekly? Monthly? How many movies/television shows do they generally add per update?

It would be great if someone could summarize the new additions to the Watch Instantly library whenever it is updated....

That would be awesome, but they do it very stealthily. =( Even the new arrivals section on their website is kind of mixed between new and semi-new.

I give thumbs up to these two:

The Orphanage
- Great movie - watch it. Creepy and suspenseful horror movie. Gave me a "The Others" vibe, but better. Produced by, Guillermo Del Toro who directed Pan's Labyrinth - which I also highly recommend by the way.

The Host
- Korean subtitled monster movie. Sorta a small scale version of Cloverfield without the shaky cam and with campy humor. Surprisingly good.

Also watched:

Primer
- Great first half, convoluted last half. Without giving away too much, it's about a couple engineers who stumble on something while trying to invent a device that reduces the mass of anything placed inside it.

Fido
- A zombie movie. Alternate version of the 50s where zombies have infested the country but a company has learned to tame them by putting on collars that make them slaves. A humorous heartwarming zombie movie with gore. Pretty good, not amazing but I'd recommend it.

Watch it, people.

Lost in Translation for you heathens that don't know.

Not live queue-able. Thanks for getting my hopes up. >:[

Alright, I did a little research to follow up on my own question, and I've just been very impressed by Netflix.

I went to the "help" section of their site, and it immediately posts their phone number for customer service -- open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That alone was rather amazing, as a service like Netflix wouldn't seem to be something that required blanket customer service, but they're providing it anyway. I called them up, and there was no menu. No "Press 1 for this, Press 2 for that, press 76 to return." It just immediately attempted to connect me to a Netflix representative. I was on hold for 30 seconds or so before they were available. Also fantastic.

Once I was talking to the representative, I was told that Netflix updates their movies on Tuesdays, but those updates should be shown on the website on Sunday Evenings. In regards to the Watch Instantly queue, there are occasional weeks when there is nothing added -- if they just aren't able to acquire new licenses -- and other weeks where 10 or more movies are added, along with TV shows. It's not a consistent amount, it's just whatever they can manage to acquire the license to, as they're constantly fishing for more movies to add.

He then referred me to this website:

www.hackingnetflix.com

Which is a third party site but Netflix feels is very well run and keeps great tabs on what Netflix is doing. They are apparently very positive about it and encourage customers to investigate how their stuff works and what is coming up, like this website owner does. Best customer service I've had in a long while.

All the Stanley Kubrick films are going bye-bye on the 1st of January. I'm going to have to have a little marathon soon :)

Because I've been so satisfied with Netflix on 360, I moved closer to going cable free today. I downgraded my DirecTV service to the "Family Package", which they barely advertise, which costs $29.99 a month. I had to keep this tier because my daughter watches Disney and Nick stuff. Overall though, we'll be saving about $50 a month over our previous package.

I'll have to get my sports fix from espn360.com, and I need to find a substitute for "House of Payne" for my wife, but besides that we're not sacrificing.

It's strange, I can stream over internet explorer just fine, but I get a "Playback for this item could not be started" on Desert Punk. I just watched episode 1, so I don't think it's one of those licensing issues. :/

Anyway, some other things ending in December-early January:

The Man with Two Brains
Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Lethal Weapon 2
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai
Mad Max
Dog Day Afternoon
Karate Kid (only checked III, but the others probably will, too)

All worth watching, in my opinion.

What the... am I going cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, or has CGI been added into those old Star Trek episodes?

It's been years since I've watched any of these, but I certainly don't remember the effects looking this crisp.

Yeah, they're remasters. Pretty tasteful really. The soundtracks were re-recorded for 5.1 as well -- they hired an opera lady to re-do the singing and everything.

This question may have been asked already but I need to know: I have a child XBL account and I want to know if I could stream vids. XBL tells me I have to be 18 to sign up but if I sign up for a Netflix account separately and enable the the streaming, would I be able to? Thanks if anyone knows..

I think so. I don't know if they filter content by rating, though. (If you'd be able to watch Rated R films) I bet you'd be fine, though.

And I think I solved my playback error problem. I had over 40 movies in my queue and I was unable to play some of them. I shortened it to about 20 and it's working fine again. I have no idea why that happens, but I only had 40+ because I was too lazy to delete some of them.

I have over 150 in my queue and haven't had any streaming problems yet. Sounds weird.

Anyone having problems with Netflix?

Last week when I signed up for Netflix, the quality of my streams was really good. Today, it's hardly watchable. I mean, really really bad. I get one bar maximum and it's very pixelated and grainy.

Is this Netflix or my internet? I have 1.5Mbps, which I know isn't the fastest out there, but it used to look good and now it sucks. What gives?

I thought the planets and ship shots looked a lot better than I remembered them. Nothing else was. :lol

Yeah, I spoke too soon. I'm still getting errors. Dunno what's up. =( I DMZed my 360 in case, and it's still buggy.

Sounds like my problem. I can stream over my laptop and PC just fine, and even over VMCnetflix over 360. I think it's a problem with their app.

It's probably your internet. Here's how Netflix encodes its video.

I can't believe Orgazmo is on there!

Best movie ever!

Wait...why?
On a related note, I just finished his 'Barry Lyndon.' So good.

Not necessarily. The license expires 1/1, but it could get renewed before the deadline. The Fawlty Towers box set was about to expire, but it was extended.

"Watch Full Episodes"

What scares me about the Star Trib article is that Comcast will evolve...that means tiered service, Netflix throttling, you name it.

Of course, I was worried about Fawlty Towers, but pleasantly surprised when the expiration date vanished. I'm letting everyone know in case the movies' licenses do actually expire on the 1st.

Same for me. After 20+ years of watching my cable bill get bigger and bigger I cancelled cable. GASP! I'm getting my news and sports off the web. I use Netflix streaming on the 360 for most of my movies. The rest we get in the mail from Netflix.

I cancelled cable about 2 weeks ago and I don't miss it one bit.

I still pay for Comcast Internet service though. I'd prefer they spend their R&D on better, faster Internet than more tv channels and packages I don't want.

Definitely. I'll be curious to see if something actually does expire. It's not in Netflix's best interest to have content disappear. Hopefully they are putting the dates up out of legal necessity only.

+1 Cable free, by the way. I have an Apple TV(with Boxee) for Hulu, iTunes purchases, rentals and video podcasts, and a 360 for Netflix.

I don't know if it was recommended already but I'm here to put my recommendation in for Fear of a Black Hat. If you like Spinal Tap and you're a fan of hip hop, you're in for a treat. Calling it the 90s hip hop version of Spinal Tap is selling it a bit short though as it does stand on it's own legs and tackles more issues.
