I'm having a blast going through my old sketchbooks.

Thanks for the inspiration guys! I might actually start drawing again.

Fairly recent stuff within the last year or so.

I posted this earlier in that other Photoshop/art thread, but what the hell I'll put it up here too. This is Sandor Clegane, aka "The Hound" from George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series (using Illustrator).

So yesterday I was taking a piss in the school bathroom and was the least bit pleased to see a pubic hair sitting on the toilet seat. If that wasn't enough, that image was burned into my head and became the inspiration for this piece of whatever:

P_King_Sketch.jpg

I call it the Pube King Sketch and so far, I must admit that I don't like it at all

I haven't drawn in years and this is my first picture...for one, I realized that I'm completely incapable of drawing straight lines, especially horizontal ones. I also realized that my Tablet pen is cracked and the point sinks n if I press too hard. This drawing doesn't fit the style that I was trying to achieve at all and ends up looking like some sort of Torimaya(sp?) thing IMO and after numerous futile attempts, I came to the conclusion that it's impossible for me to draw hands and legs so I just said 'fuckit' for now

anyway, critique away

Eh - nothing new here. I'm at work so I can't scan anything at the moment, but here's some of the old stuff I have saved online:

They're years old and I'm sure you've seen me post them before.I always say I'm gonna finish them, but I never do. ::FEH::

I like your style a lot, Thom. It looks very unique. How do you get your lines so clean?

Thanks aero.

I just keep scribbling and fleshing out the line definition until I reach something I'm happy

with then I darken in with ink or pencil.

Here are my last two paying jobs, nothing spectacular but I had fun with them.

this would look better if I could find higher res hosting.

this was in color but I had to go greyscale for better resolution

Heh, thanks...I posted that in frustration over my inability to draw straight lines and the difficulty I have finishing it...I'm starting to like it myself, though I really need to start practicing hands and legs before I attempt to finish it

thom, do you plan on coloring any of your drawings?

These are all just sketches I just randomly scanned spurt of the moment but most of my

finished work ends up getting colored. I can't post any color work because of

resolution issues. The images will look like bitmapped legos.

Hmm why don't you try taking a digital picture of it. I'd like to see it.

Hmm pretty, can you do more than anime? :)

Haha :) Thanks -- I can but anime style stuff tends to come easier for some reason. I'd think my style tends to be more towards the one I did above called "Hybrid", with the fetus curled up above a pond, flowers strewn about and branches growging from his head. Let me post the painting of it... it sucks pretty much, because I'm not a painter and it was done in beginning painting class:

HybridpaintingSMALL.jpg

Hrm.. I don't know if I can find anything that I've done That's non-anime on my comp. Mostly everything I scanned was for a guy who wanted to see my anime style art work that he wanted to use in a PDA game he was making, but that never fell through.

Hrm.. can't find anything I can scan. Maybe I should work on something new, it's been ages since I last drew something -- sans the character I just did recently.. but prior to that, it must have been a good 2 years. Everything else is basically a struggle with 3d that I've been spending a lot of time on. I have some photoshop stuff I did for an beginning 2d animation class as an elective, but I don't consider it to be "real" artwork because I don't know photoshop:

SilhouetteForest.jpg

ForestRun02.jpg

ForestRun.jpg

Now that you've asked about my non-anime stuff, I can't find any for the life of me. Kind of sad that I think about it now. Maybe this will give me some inspiration to draw something decent *_*

BTW, where's your artwork? Weren't you the one that posted a bunch of caricatures of forum mebers involved in some hilarious mishap? Or those short comics of Saturnman? I miss those ^_^

As for me, I've been a bit busy and don't have that much time for personal projects anymore. The last drawing I did for this forum was of Catzgirl and her cousins about 18 months, a fairly ambitious pic, but it bombed in the forum. After being burned, I stop contributing stuff here.

I've been involved in a project lately with someone from this forum, but I can't really show anything to this forum.

I might do some fan art or poster pics in October and November when I am expected to have a bit of free time.

When you say it bombed on the forum, do you mean it got no replies or did it get panned by critics? The only time I remember anyone getting slammed for his art was in that really large art thread when Refugee posted his art.

No replies, except for the main people drawn. I had shown other pics prior to that one and the reaction was also muted. I got the message.

It was still good while it lasted. :)

Ah. Don't let it get you down. A lot of times a thread showcasing one piece of art will just drop off the OT's first page too fast. Those of us who appreciate the work of our forum artists usually end up missing the thread (like myself).

I am SO close to posting something new. Until then, here's the banner for site. The site was just remodeled, so it's still a little messy. My gallery is...sub-par to say the least, but this next picture is much better than anything that's up there. That's how I work...Every picture is my best at the time. That way I'm always improving. The links section is definitely worth checking out, though.

Hey Mana, I just went took a quick glance through your site. It's pretty good. Not bad at all. I'll look through it later a bit more thoroughly, but right now I need to get ready for some NFL football hehehe. Anyways... I'll just add that you, more than anyone that I can think of on the forum, have shown the most improvement in their art skills over the past few years. Keep up the good work.

Anyways, time for some football. I'll probably contribute to the thread later.

Hmm, I'd like to post art one day, but I still need to work on my lines as they're always too shody. I envy the people who can do nice clean lines in one stroke without having to erase.

Thanks guys, this thread is getting me inspired to break out my sketchbook and put some ideas to paper.

It's weird, now that my life is stable and happy.. I've lost that urge to let loose on paper.

I'm sure others in here know what thats like.

Wow, I really appreciate that Laguna. Thank you. I'm not really happy with most of what's on the site because I KNOW I'm better than that. Here's the work-in-progress of my latest. Should be done tonight. I have to finish the sequins, hair, and anything below the neck. It's Genesis from Suicide Club.

I'd love to see some of your new stuff, actually. It's nice to see how other people apply their creativity and always serves as an inspiration to learn and innovate with my own stuff the next time around. Looking at everyone's artwork shows me a lot of what I don't see at school, like Doc Holiday's usage of color and shape (which I still find amazing), Thom's and Rushmore's line quality (I still don't get it but it's beautiful), sporks photography, the various photoshop threads, jiggle's so very very polished work, Hugo's minimalistic graphic design, some other posters toy designs (he showed his batmobile renders, I can't remember his name), and I think naz has those paintings of african american women with the soft curls and vivid color usage -- there's lots of people I admire and it'd be a shame to lose a few of the contributions. Even if no one replies, I know people are still looking.

^_^

I'd have to agree with Laguna on Manabanana's work -- I don't think I've seen anyone else improve as much as you have. It's really interesting to see your progress over the years =c)

Lots of good art in here. I feel too intimidated to post anything.

Hey Jiggle, you got anymore 3D stuff? I find that pretty interesting now that I'm taking a computer animation course and working with 3DS Max 6. I haven't made anything yet because we've only covered the tools and interface so far.. well maybe the Teapot and stuff but we all know how easy that is. :D

Hmmm, Where to begin? Let's try to keep it related to GA in some way.

Well, if I go back to January of 2003, I had finally decided to get a tablet and tested it by doing a wallpaper for another forum. It was basically a character exercise and what would things look like if I used a tablet and put in 3 hours of coloring per character. The people depicted in this one are myself, Ploid (where is he now anyway?) and GA mod Tamanon/Tamahome:

Tama

Back in March 2003, GA mod Exxy/Patrick Klepek asked people to draw something for his NZ girlfriend (maybe she still posts here, but I don't know under which handle). A variety of people submitted art and so did I. The only thing that stands out about this pic is the water as I did it by hand instead of lazily using PS filters:

Exxy

Fast Forward to May 2003 and this is the last official art I ever did for GA. It's the Catzgirl/Leguna/MannGC pic I was refering to earlier. There's nothing really special about this one, it's just a big, detailed pic. And since how good a drawing looks often depends on how much time you put in, that one took me 15 or 16 hours. That reflection was a time waster:

Leguna

Now, that becomes tricky. If I have to find another pic related to GA somehow, I guess I'd have to go with Ghost of Bill Gates. Here's a pic done in August or September of 2003. This was a fairly quick pic and nothing in particular stands out. Old-timers at GA may find it familiar though:

GoBG

And finally, this is a bit of a stretch but I can link this one to GA as well. It's Aika Suzuki. She used to post at GA under the handle MariJ, but I have no idea if she still posts here. This was done for her birthday back in October of last year. This is the first and only time I've ever tried to do something like a comic book cover:

Aika

I hope this is enough for you.

Ah, there we go. Awesome -- I'd have to say the Exxy and GoBG would have to be my favs. I think it'd have to be the expressions you use for the characters' faces that gets me. Plus, the awkward stances you place the characters in helps with the humor. I used to save most of your work, but I don't remember where I put them since I've changed computers. I remmeber you had a website up, right?

Speaking of Ploid, what happened to him?

That's pretty cool Saturnman. I remember when you used to do a lot of characatures of forum personalities years back. This is the first time I've seen these however. Nice.

Ploid still posts now and then. I think he's trying to keep his visits here to a minimum.

Newb and Mana, that's some nice work. Newb, here's a little critique on your Hellboy drawing. Try giving him broader shoulders. It doesn't look bad, but it looks like his traps may be pretty huge under his jacket. I think large delts would compliment the traps nicely. While you've done an excellent job shading him. He could stand to be more "barrel-chested", to give him a more rounded realistic look. Again the shading looks great, but he just seems a little flat to me. Good job though.

I just started a blog last week which contains little comics I like to do. Said comics are done in MS Paint (Hey, it's all I can afford), so they are nowhere near as nice as a lot of the previous entrys, but I'd still appreciate some feedback.

I really like Penny-Arcade so I draw from them a lot. Some of my characters have that look to them and additionally, I like to use their color palletes. For instance, I clearly used the "audience scene" in Undisclosed Propensities 5 to help me with my "Something there that wasn't there before" comic. Hope that doesn't bother anyone.

You should probably read up on some color theory. It looks like you're 1) Coloring on white, which is generally not good and 2) Using black to shade and white to highlight, which is way wrong. Also, unless she's epileptic her eyes should probably be closer to the same size >_<. Once you start getting the color down, more things will pop out and seem wrong, and you'll correct those and the picture will become exponentially better. You should also try reversing the image or looking at it in a mirror. If it doen't look right reversed, it has some problems. Correct those while it's reversed, then flip it back and it'll look sooo much better.

Thanks for the advice. Actually, the white is just a background layer for now. I usually make a few layers when digitally coloring. I'll usually start with a flat layer of some color, which is nearly the lightest part, and gradually shade things in. The only thing I used black shading on was the hair, since I wasn't really sure what other color to use on black hair (although the base color was a dark blue). For the skin, I used a dark brownish for the darker areas. That being said, it's still in a very early stage. I swore to myself I'd do one colored drawing a week, but I didn't feel like it last Saturday, instead playing too many games, and then not starting this one until late last night.

Fun little fact: I've used Photoshop for over 5 years, but only in the last month or so have I started using the Burn/Dodge/Sponge tool. I used to do everything by shading/lighting with different shades of all colors. :)

Well, your skin isn't shaded by different shades of brown. There is the opposite color of the object in its shadow. Bengal does an icredible job of illustrating this. This doesn't really match your style, but it should help you get the idea.

*WARNING* Artistic Nudity::

The purples are from the shadow and the wall and the blues are reflecting from the couch.

Here, the blues in the shadows in contrast to the red are really noticeable.

Also, for anyone who was following Agasang's work before, it looks like she's doing some character designs that are amazing :O
