Hell even if you have the 4G version, it doesn't mean that you have it activated at any given time. With the iPhone you can't buy it without a data plan, data is always available (or almost always).

You can buy the iPhone unlocked (in Canada) without a contract. No data required.
I meant on contract. I'm actually surprised that so many people want siri on iPad, it always seemed like it fit much better on iPhone.
Off topic, but I love debating with people at work and school about this. Most people do not need a cell phone. It's a manufactured dependency.

What is the verdict on the smart covers? I think for me it might be the perfect method of protecting the screen while still being easily removable.

I love my smart cover. It's very functional allowing for two prop-up positions and is a great screen cleaner. I went poly and haven't regretted it. It's rather insufficient for travel, however, if you want protection.

i feel like facetime was promoted as a selling point for the iphone 4 at least as much as siri was for the 4S, and that needs a constant wi-fi connection. there's no reason at all why apple couldn't put siri in the ipad with the same restriction.

It protects the screen but does not protect the back.
Personally, I don't care for them.
I had the leather cover, I would recommend the poly one.
Imo the poly covers are more durable.
Who said anything about selling it for the same price. I am willing to pay the cost to "rent" it until a suitable alternative is available.

Anyway, I don't see why internet should be "guaranteed" before Siri should be loaded onto the iPad. It is assumed that most people are using internet on their iPads, regardless of what version they are getting. The intermittent times when they don't have internet isn't enough for Apple to exclude other internet-required software, such as Safari browser or dictation.

Yeah, iPhone 4 arrived 2 days early despite being told by Apple that they'd be held at the delivery center.
Anyone in Australia who ordered online/phone and has had their shipping status changed from processing? I ordered at 8:00AM as soon as the phone lines opened and it hasn't changed. I wonder if they're just holding out on preparing it as I live quite close to Sydney.

I ordered at 12pm and mine is currently shipped AND I have tracking options. Melbourne.
Having it shipped to the heart of Brisbane, mine is still on processing.
I got my order in pretty much quicker than anyone I know. around 6:30am Brisbane time.
I'm not too worried at this point.

According to some guy in a thread I read on whirlpool, all non engraved ipads that are pre-ordered are sitting in a warehouse in Aus waiting until the 15th to begin transit.
