Update: Venom, X-23, the Red Hulk and the new, female Ghost Rider are teaming up in a February story in a story that, at this point, Marvel's only calling "The Venom Event."

The arc, announced Wednesday during Marvel's latest "Next Big Thing" press conference call, will run for six issues, starting with February's Venom #13, then continuing on in Venom #13.1, #13.2, #13.3 and #13.4, concluding with March's Venom #14. The first and last parts are by the familiar creative team of writer Rick Remender and artist Tony Moore, with Jeff Parker (Hulk) and Rob Williams (Ghost Rider) joining on the middle sections, along with artists to be announced.

The story is set in Las Vegas, and is intended to be something of an update of the early '90s "New Fantastic Four" story that starred the Grey Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine and the Danny Ketch Ghost Rider. The villain of the piece went unrevealed during the call, though Remender said the story starts with Captain America sending Red Hulk to hunt down Venom.

"This feels to me like a whole new section of the Marvel Universe, with four visually interesting characters," Remender said during the conference call. "Being able to create new things around them as well, instead of just pulling out the same things we've seen a million times — I've already got a notebook of future ideas based on how excited I am by it."

Just like the comic that inspired it, this is such an odd group of characters that I'm actually interested to see what goes down.

Awesome. Awesome! I loved the new fantastic four when I was a kid. I probably wouldn't have ever gotten into the regular FF without those stories.

The new Venom actually looks pretty cool, too.

edit: are they ever going to adopt a better name than "Red Hulk?" :P

Venom with guns?
The venom symbiote is currently being used by the military for Spec Ops missions. Peter's old buddy Flash Thompson is wearing it.

Honestly, this change has been the first time I've ever found the character interesting.

Oooooh, interesting.

I thought X-23 just joined the Teen Avengers or something? :lol

Such a bizarre mash-up of characters, seems pretty cool. Wonder what they'll actually be doing.

Starting to show up on every team just like her (sorta) papa, Wolverine. Chip off the old block, that one. :)

Toeverine's secondary mutation is multiple team membership.

I was gonna say, she's definitely taking after her 'dad' :P

Still, much rather her than, say, Daken

I think he is going rogue after Spiderisland. He is going to join the Secret Avengers.

daken kicks the shit out of toeverine. hands down. the dark wolverine arc was some amazing stuff.

that being said, i would love to see the "new" new FF go up against the "old" new FF. or at least put banner in savages place.

They need to research brah, that's what seperates them from the Avengers and Reed being a Plastic Man rip off. I mean I know Red Hulk has been doin research i Arabia.

This team just doesnt make sense....what could possibly have happened that needs/needed each of their unique skill sets combined?

Glad its only six issues....

I doubt that you're capable of thinking about anything hard enough to become disillusioned with it, so don't worry.

Hurr hurr hurr. Being an asshole over comic books.

Again, I hope I never become that jaded over comic books.

Homage aside, why does such a random team-up need to be called Fantastic Four?

Can't they be something like Angry Anti-hero Action Alliance? That sounds cool.
