The next Zelda - Which heroes and villains would you want?

Dark Link, Teen Link...I want Ganondorf to be a childhood friend of Link who throughout the game discovers that his ancestor is ganon, thus he turns evil halfway through the game. :p

I want a game that details how an elderly and weathered post-Majora's Mask Link attains the armor you see that Skeleton Spirit wearing in Twilight Princess (The one who teaches you new moves).

Or a new CD-I game.

Some version of this would be awesome.

It would be great to either have a female link or have a story told focusing on the holder of the triforce of wisdom (Zelda) instead of the holder of the triforce of courage (Link).

I'm all for playing as Zelda or a female Link, but I'd feel pressured if I had the triforce of wisdom. No way my player character could ever live up to that.

I want a Zelda game where we play as Zelda.

Yes please.

Also child gannon

We need a female villain. A corrupted great fairy or something. I know we had that in one of the games which I'm not gonna spoil, but we need more.

Edit: Or at least make that female villain appear once again in a new game. And please no Ganondorf, she be the ultimate antagonist.

I'd like child Link in a side story like Link's Awakening or Majora's Mask with mostly new characters, a new villain, and no voice acting (unless it's Hylian gibberish).

But I'll take anything as long as it's good and not full of game padding fetch quest nonsense and fighting the same boss multiple times. I'm really hoping the Wii U Zelda will be awesome after being not entirely happy with TP or SS. Not that they're awful games, they just had some good ideas with poor implementation.

Link and Ganondorf start on the same "side." Tragedy befalls the Gerudo and we get to see the game where Ganon turns. Steals from the Sacred Realm to save his people and becomes the tragic villain. Flesh him out some more as the potential is clearly there. (Ganon in Wind Waker comes to mind)

To be honest, I really don't care so long as they learn the lesson of ALBW and just make sure the story isn't interrupting the game like it did in Skyward Sword.

Switch up who gets which Triforce pieces. Also playable Zelda segments I guess, since everyone else seems to want it for some reason. Could be fun.

I really dig the item system in ALBW, too. Some variation of that might be good. My one quibble with it is that it made all the dungeons seem really short and simplistic compared to the rest of the series.

Child link, teen link, adult link?

Why not all three. Would like to see a Legend of Zelda where Link and Zelda and others all age during the game. That way you could revisit some areas as the different versions to explore new areas and see how things have changed.

Switching back and forth between Link and Zelda (not as Sheik) would be nice to see. Hell make one of them the parent and one the child and tell a generational tale. They don't have to be blood related to do this. Start out as one and end up as the other with both having used the Master Sword or even a new legendary weapon. This way we possibly get an older and bearded Link and perhaps a older Zelda.

As for villains I'd like a new set of them. No Ganondorf, Vaati, etc.

All I want is a great Zelda game that continues to innovate and change. I have faith in the team at this point. Sure, there have been a few bumps in the road, but Zelda is the most consistently great series in my mind.

With that being said, there's really only a few things I definitely do not want. Those are: voice acting and "open world" (skyrim) style mechanics. Voice acting in games is usually bad and sometimes ruins the experience. I'd rather them focus on what they do best. When I say "open world mechanics" I don't mean I don't like ALLTP or WW's "open world overworld", I mean I don't want Skyrim's a million quests and complete non-linearity. I want exploration, I'm all for exploration. But make it A Link To the Past (or ALBW) exploration or Wind Waker exploration. I don't want dumbed down filler quests that open world games have.

Other than those two things, I hope they go nuts. Do some crazy stuff and make a great Zelda game. As a fan, a new villain would be cool. So would a game that Zelda plays a more central role in (like she did in Skyward Sword, for example). But these are all 'me as a fan' wants and desires. I really just want an awesome Zelda game.

I think it would be cool of we had a real Nemisis-like character that Link encounters as a child, and they are destined to meet and battle again and again throughout his life. Maybe over Zelda's affection or something more innocent, that later turns foul and violent. And you don't deal in time travel, but actual progression... you play as the same Link throughout different periods of his life from childhood to adult and Old Link as he continually struggles against this same force that he used to be closer with. It could be an interesting play off the triforce; in adult form, we'd finally see link with zelda, and the trifoce actually grow up with these children and as they become adults, see how each reacts to the burden of their respective powers.

.... though i can't believe im playing around with fanfic now, haha.

I've always been fond of the stranger in a strange land motif, and only two Zelda games have really run with that: Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask. You could *maybe* make the argument that WindWaker hit some of those tonal notes, as well, but the Zelda franchise has seen a lot of amazing things come out of pushing in different directions. MM is arguably one of the better entries, and I think a lot of that is due to the creative freedom granted by taking the story out of Hyrule, away from Zelda, and removing Ganon.

If we really needed to keep Ganon (which I'd be fine with, because there have been some genuinely fantastic Ganons), I'd love to see a bit of a role reversal. Link travels away from Hyrule, settles down a bit, puts on a few years, but he's never going to get away from Ganon; the two are linked together in a really cruel, twisted, ironic fate kind of way, so even as far as Link goes, Ganon will follow.

But here, Ganon is young. Much younger than Link. Faster, stronger, though not as disciplined, not as skilled. He's a vicious wolverine, basically. Thing is, he isn't concerned with ruling over this new land. All he wants is Link's head. If the countryside burns, so be it. If villages are destroyed, no matter. If people and crops are wiped out, it is simply a means to an end.

Link's entire goal is twofold:

1) Defend himself
2) Avoid letting this land get caught in the crossfight

Link would be on the run for a lot of the game. Ganon would be possessing townsfolk, cattle, horses, wildlife...pretty much stalking Link the entire time.

Bunch of villagers go into hiding, away from the possessed. Into caves, swamps, etc. Only a few willing to help, the rest terrified of Link as much as they are of Ganon. No real dialogue, though. Just glances and body language.

New villain please. I'm thinking of all the previous villains, and I don't particularly like any of them enough to want another game with them. Ghirahim was cool, but I think it's best for just one game to have his unique flair. Makes it all the more special. Try something new and interesting next time.

Why? How would it change the game? Would making Samus into a guy do anything for Metroid? Link is male, he's been male since time immemorial. He's always reborn a male, just like Zelda is reborn a female. It's also why Ganondorf is always a male Gerudo. No gender swapping for characters that have been established for almost 25+ years please. That's just who the characters are.
If you don't think it would change the game, why are you so resistant to the idea? There are countless Links across the Zelda timelines, and there's no reason why Link always needs to be male. I'd like to see a female Link for diversity reasons, yes, but also cause I just think it would be cool. And I wouldn't want it to be a simple gender swap. I'd want the character to fit the general Link tropes while also being designed + written to be unique, and her being female should play into that. In what ways are the already existing Link characters written with male gender norms and socialization in mind? How could a female Link be written to take female norms and socialization in mind?

I'm in the camp that prefers minimal story in my Zelda, so I wouldn't want a ton of narrative or anything. I'd be cool with them just making Link a girl and telling people to deal with it.

And you saying "Back on topic" suggests that your response wasn't already on topic. I'm totally on topic here, lol. I'm serious about this. I think it would be cool.

Edit : Whoaaa, that kid Ganon art is awesome.

If I could choose a setting/time it would be during the Hyrulean Civil War or after the new continent is found and the struggle to start a new Hyrule.

I want something that completely mixes up the formula and throws the official timeline in a garbage heap (where it belongs).

For example: you play as Old Link, a hunted outcast / Robin Hood type figure. You keep courage and hope alive through the long and dark rule of King Ganondorf and Queen Zelda.

Or again: you play as Ganondorf, the last member of a tribe of sand people persecuted by the Hylians. Will you seek vengeance? What is the taste of victory? And what will you do when a young hero, almost a child, comes to cast you down?

Or Nintendo can keep doing Zelda Junior High, whatevs.

Yesss, I would love a coming of age story with Link and Zelda (both playable) becoming a hero and a heroine, while Ganondorf (playable for a few levels, like the tutorial dungeon) becomes a tragic villain. Focusing on the three characters and their relationship would be super epic.

I'd also like to see something so out there that it lives up to Aonuma's comments about making a Zelda game so changed that you can't recognize it as a Zelda game at first. Something as crazy as Zelda doing a cyberpunk game to show more of the time period somewhat shown in Skyward Sword.

Anything thats a shake up to the formula, challenge, less linear progression and rewarding exploration are most important. Aesthetically Hyrule could use a make over too, either set it in a different time period, industrial or future hyrule, or change it altogether. I love the green fields/hills/canyons/mountains as much as anyone but after a so many years exploring it, a change is in order.
Playing co op sections with zelda would be intresting, or playing through Ganons story would be great, as he acends/decends into power . Throw in some asymetrical online options ala Souls messaging/ or an open flea market/auctions house for fun.
There's lots of possibilities but lately it seems like they want to keep reintroducing the series as is to new players, since its core design is so strong they don't wanna shake the boat much.

Villain: No-talking-man. Not only does he not talk, but he steals the ability to talk from all the inhabitants of Hyrule! Oh boy, how will Link save the day if no one is constantly reminding him where to go and what to do?

Hero: Skips-the-tutorial-man. This hero throws caution to the wind. How do I use a bomb? What is a blue rupee worth? This guy may never know.

Holy shit what? I didn't know that's who that was supposed to be :o

Make 4 games (throughout Wii U gen)

1. Play as link
2. Play as Zelda
3. Play as ganondolf
4. Starts where the other 3 end and you play as either link or all 3.

An adult link more on the masculine side for once, without the female cat features and without the Japanese voice. No Ganon, Zelda or Triforce in sight. A tale that does not try to fit into the new Zelda continuity.

So basically, you want a Zelda game that is not a Zelda game. Gotcha.

---

Anyways...

I would prefer Adult Link (TP or Skyward Sword), Ganondorf can have a role, and no voice acting. Well, at least none for Link. I would be okay if everyone else had a voice, but so much can go wrong with that especially considering the Zelda series has such quirky characters. Putting voices on them would be... I dunno. Not sure if it would be wise, tbh.

Link is barely even a character, though. He sleeps in and that's ahh....pretty much it. In Skyward Sword he was at that Knight Academy, but they had female cadets too, so it's not like he was really doing anything inherently "guys only" in that game's world.

Plus you've got Impa, who's pretty much a badass...and then OoT had Sheik, and Zelda was with you the whole time in Spirit Tracks, often in the form of a badass hulking suit of armor no less.

I dunno. I don't see the Zelda series as a particularly egregious offender in the whole gender equality wave sweeping the industry (particularly the games from OoT beyond), and with Link basically being a non-character already, I don't think a gender swap would be meaningful in any way.

Leave Link and Zelda as they are, I say. Expand Zelda's playable role and make playing as her a unique experience instead of just having Girl Link. Give her some of that Sheik speed and combat prowess so she's not just a typical Female = Magic User type.

I want a Zelda game where we play as Zelda.

Fierce Deity

Or Link after MM

Any sequel after the OoT split would be glorious!

Play as Fierce Diety Link as he fights his way through a cursed dreamscape.

Play as Zelda as she tries to find a cure for the comatose Link.

The Dreamscape changes after the Zelda sections as her attempted cures alter the world Link is trapped in, pealing away the layers of abstraction until the true evil is revealed for Link to fight.

Villain? The Essence of Majora.

The dungeons are split between the "real" world and the dreamscape..

Setting: The same Hyrule from OoT in the post MM timeline. Link is an adult and Hyrule has grown in the seven years since Ganon never took power. Link dies at the end and his spirit is bound to Majora's and must roam the Hyrule as a spectre holding that evil sealed within him. (That's the glow in his one eye in TP.)

Skyward Sword did a good job in giving Zelda a meaningful role. Demise wasn't that fleshed out though, and Link is Link lol. I'd say give us an interesting villain with depth, which actually manages to scare Link and Zelda.

A game where link got corrupt after saving Hyrule, then somehow became the king and killed the princess. It would be the same link that returned from Majora. He then got cursed in TP for his evil deeds.

You play as another character trying to save Hyrule from the Link.
