Well, the two Castlevanias are pretty cool to own, even if they are somewhat flawed.

Oh, got to link to my own video, now that I finally had (for a brief moment) a complete N64 controller collection. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlnYN2Rgh9g

Did you know there were 30 different controllers for it? And that's not even counting packaging variants. :)

That's all. Open for suggestions.

Buck bumble
Bust-A-Move
Extreme G
Forsaken
Gauntlet Legends
Glover
Kirby 64
lego Racers
Mace: The Dark Age
Rampage World Tour
Road Rash 64
Robotron 64
San Fransisco Rush
Tetrisphere
Vigilante 8
Winback

Just added 16 more all pal version I looked. Also If you're going for that many, then adding Superman 64 is a must.

There are lots of good N64 games... but if you want some games that weren't released in the US, Rakuga Kids and Taz Express might be worth a look. The latter one is one of only four PAL-exclusive N64 games, but the other three are two F1 games (F1 WGP II and F1 Racing Championship) and Premiere Manager 64, and from your list it doesn't sound like that stuff interests you. (Rakuga Kids, Airboarder 64, and Centre Court Tennis are the only PAL/JP but not US releases. I don't know if the tennis game is good, but Airboarder 64 is supposed to be not so great.)
I've played Rakuga (worked at a game store in the late 90s when it was common practice to take games home to try out), but I'm considering a F1 game. Is there a clear choice among them? Leaning towards WGP2.

Rocket, Tetrisphere, Castlevania: Legacy of Darkness, and both Goemon games are definitely quite good games well worth getting. Extreme-G 1 and 2 as well.

WGP II does sound like the best one, yeah. F1 Racing Simulation (the other Europe-exclusive F1 game) probably is a good game too, though -- it's the next game by the same team that made Monaco Grand Prix, and that game reviewed well and did release in all regions.

All Star Tennis '99 is another tennis game worth checking out.
And that one did release in the US. I might try it sometime.

Been looking at this. A bit of name confusion, which is always fun. I don't think they're just made from the same team...

I found this on a forum, they're all the same game:

I think Black Falcon meant F1 Racing Championship, that's the other European exclusive F1 game. Different from Monaco Racing Simulation, but both from Ubisoft.

You're right. F1 Racing Championship is the one I meant, and it is the sequel to that game in the picture there -- and yes, all three of those are the same game. In the US that game there is "Monaco Grand Prix", for a fourth title variation. :)

My brothers didn't like KI Gold for whatever reason as our shared xmas present so we had to return it and get Wayne Gretzkys 3D Hockey instead.

I begged them not to. Begged them.

I never liked any of the KI games, while Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey is one of the most fun arcade-style sports games this side of NBA Jam. So yeah.

i guess i should try Gretzky since i like arcade sports stuff, but...i thought KI Gold got love? you're telling me SNES KI was better?

I don't know, I don't like that one either. I've never been able to memorize long button combos, and that series is probably the one which requires that the most. But if you like arcade sports games, Gretzky 3D Hockey may be an ugly first-gen N64 game, but it's lots of fun! The game has a sequel, and Midway made more arcade hockey games later on, but I don't know if any of them ever quite match the perfectly arcadey fun of the first N64 game... the other two Midway N64 hockey games, Gretzky '98 and Olympic Hockey '98, sure don't.

In my opinion is is. Id almost go as far to say the gameboy version is also better. KI2 plays nothing like the first. And they ruined orchid's move set. I prefer the completely broken arcade version of ki the best.

Thanks. :)

Nah, not looking to expanding into those, I'm just interested in Nintendo's own controllers.

Quest 64 continues

At least give me credit for the name! I'll steal your idea in return! :p

I'm sitting at 31 games for the system right now, probably should do a list of what's left to get. I could easily come up with 20 games I definitely need, but 33? Hm..

There was also Mortal Kombat 4, although that is perhaps not the MK game you'd choose when you feel like playing MK.

How about Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2? Hey you, Pikachu and Pokemon Puzzle League?
You kind of need to appreciate pokemon for these. ESPECIALLY Hey You, Pikachu.
One I can recommend for sure is Space Station Silicon Valley. I love that game.

OP, gaf, has anyone found a way to play well perfect dark with that N64-> PC adapter (read first post)?.

I can't find any configuration or plugin that resembles the N64 controller "feeling" with PD.

And do what with them?

I'm actually thinking about painting one of mine platinum (silver), swapping out the red LED for a purple one and changing out the standard N64 logo for an Ultra 64 one. Sound cool?

ultra.jpg

RGB mod them.

I would absolutely swap out the jewel on my n64 for an ultra 64 one. Someone really should make high quality raised stickers and sell them.

That Ultra 64 logo on the system looks awesome! I always liked that logo, and that would be pretty cool to have on a system. The N64 logo is great too, but so is the U64 one...

To my ears the "Ultra 64" moniker has always sounded better than Nintendo 64. I was terribly disappointed when Nintendo opted to change the name just before launch.

I bought WinBack 64 for $15 (without box) but I thought it was a steal. Great game that is surprisingly long and challenging.

Hah, I can see how it looks like that now. It's actually an comically wide-topped version of the regular stick - alternate angle:

Speaking of analog sticks, I should really go about getting a new one for my current controller. It's awfully loose, and while it works, it just generally feels wrong.

But then, I've heard some of the new sticks make certain movements impossible, like a quick slash in Zelda, if you get a bum one. :\

No, the only Pokémon game I've considered is Pokémon Puzzle League, but I prefer Tetris Attack on SNES. I don't have any affinity towards Pokémon so Stadium is pointless and Hey You never released in Europe. SSSV is bought. Thanks anyway. :p

Doesn't Pokémon Puzzle League have a 3D Mode that bog-standard Tetris Attack doesn't? I know it's also in Panel de Pon in Nintendo Puzzle Collection on the Gamecube, but that's Japan-only (kind of a shame, but eh, I own it anyway, mojibake and all).

Yes, it does. The Panel de Pon version in the Nintendo Puzzle Collection is a port of the never-released Japanese N64 version that Pokemon Puzzle League (US/EU-exclusive release) is based off of. They added a 3-4 player mode to the GC version, but otherwise apart from the theme they are the same game. A second game on the disc is similar -- the Nintendo Puzzle Collection Dr. Mariio is a port of the US-exclusive N64 Dr. Mario 64 game. Only the third game in the Nintendo Puzzle Collection, the new Yoshi's Cookie game, was new (and is Japan-exclusive).

Anyway, Panel de Pon NPC and Pokemon Puzzle League have some differences of course, in the graphics, story mode text, etc., but the gameplay and modes should be identical, apart from that the N64 version is two player only while the GC one has 3/4 player support as I said. (Dr. Mario 64 does have four player on the N64, so that 4 player mode wasn't new to the NPC.)

But yeah, Pokemon Puzzle League is fantastic. In terms of featuresets, it's the best US-released Puzzle League game for sure.

I did get adventurous enough to swap out the red LED on one of my N64's to a more mellow amber one.

Ooohh, this thread has reminded me that I still need to track down a U.S version of Beetle Adventure Racing (I'm in the U.K)

Also may dive back in to Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. Janky as hell, but loved the big open world feel to it.

edit: has there been any advancements on the RGB modding? I have a U.S model and the RGB mod never worked on mine. I think I recall reading way back when, that it worked better on some models than others. Mine was a launch machine and I ended up with a really dark picture when I tried modding mine. I ended up with one of those RGB convertor cables by Blaze, which I believe converts s-video to RGB.
