that was really cool Afro! you made a family happy, man.
We just fired up Super Monkey Ball. I never played it before and I'm impressed with how fluid the controls are. The Gamecube analog stick is perfect for this game, nice sense of speed as well. Looks good on my one remaining CRT TV too!
I'm having a problem with the progressive scan setup. I'm using a Sony KD-27FS170 with the official component cables but when I set the gamecube to progressive scan mode the picture turns black and white and slit. Am I doing something wrong with the setup or is it the TV?

This is an SDTV. It is not capable of 480p.
You can enjoy the improved color separation of component cables over 480i or replace the TV with one that supports progressive scan.
Are you sure? Searching on the web, it looks like it's an EDTV so there shouldn't be a problem with 480p.
Insanely jealous of the The Wind Waker/Ocarina combo. I have this one, but I'd love to find the one that includes The Wind Waker.
Do you guys want to hear a horror story?
A local game store near me was looking for a unique way to decorate their store's walls. So, about a couple months back, they started taking cover inserts out of the front of some of their disc based games from last gen. They cut the front cover off from the side/back cover (yes, with scissors) and pasted the front covers on the store walls. At first, it was mostly sports games and common titles so I didn't really care. Later on though, I started seeing stuff like Kingdom Hearts and even Persona 4 being used in the same way. I thought they might be copies, but no, they are the same thickness and quality as the game cover inserts. (Plus some of the cuts are slightly jagged even...)
Last week I stopped by and my stomach sank a little when I walked over to their counter. They were using that cover. They literally sacrificed a copy of the Wind Waker / OOT combo disc to cut the cover off and paste it on their front counter.

you know they're gonna use the PS2 stuff tho

Plugged in my GameCube last night for the first time in probably 7 or 8 years. I traded in my X360 so I can get a PS4 on release. I was looking for my 'Cube games and all I could find was Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and some sports games my brothers bought used.
It feels good to be playing the old 'Cube, but man, I wish I still had some of my games like Timesplitters 2. I know some guys who probably have some games and maybe a GameStop or two around here has some. I need something to hold me over until PS4 releases at least.
Unfortunately most of the good games are holding their value really well. You have to get pretty lucky to find some for cheap. Good luck to you though!
A memory card would be necessary. You can't access the Wii's storage in GCN mode unfortunately.
this thread is really making me miss my Gamecube.
Yea, I went to IGN's Top 25 GameCube games list and a bunch of the games sell on Amazon for more than $60. Is this because of the rarity of the games or something?
Hopefully I can find the Splinter Cell trilogy but forget about playing Super Mario Sunshine.
Amazon prices are outrageous, though. It's a terrible gauge of value for retro games of any kind.

On very rare occasion you can score a deal on import/JP stuff, but yeah. I would avoid. Especially since you can't see the item you're buying.this should be in the OP of every retro thread if its somehow not well known, its nearly 100% truth from my experience

Completed listings on eBay are still the best gauge of what something should cost you... ONLINE. More importantly, eBay completed listings that are auction sales are best, as the Buy It Now's are often inflated a bit too. If you have games stores near you that deal in retro, they are almost always the same as eBay completed listings or cheaper in my experience, plus you have the added benefit of being able to look the game over in person.May I ask which online store you use...

I haven't purchased from eStarland.com, but from what I have looked at on their site, their prices are pretty much in line with eBay on the high end.
Amazon is a cesspool of gougers, because people think that the Amazon name means they're getting some kind of Amazon guarantee or something? I dunno? I just know that pricing there is outrageous and way out of line with what actual value of a game is.

Looking at getting some old FPS games on the Cube, anyone got any advice on if Geist, XIII and Timesplitters 3 are worth getting. I know Geist is about of a rough one but I want to give it a shot, not sure about the other 2 though.
