The Nintendo GameCube Appreciation and Collecting Thread.

I am pretty excited right now. A nearby retro games store has on hold for me the last game I need to complete a certain collection on GameCube. Look for a pic later today!

Finally got Resident Evil 2 for the completion! Proud to say I have hunted for every single one of these. Resident Evil for GameCube set complete.

Nice job, it's a fun set to own many hours of great gaming in that lot.

Congratz! Join the club!

Although I prefer the artwork of the PAL releases... here is my set:

And for completion, the Japanese set. All 3 regions sets in one post hehe nice.

Sp upset! I always keep boxes for every system and game I have ever bought and owned BUT some how at some point my Gamecube system box was thrown away. It's the "limited" platinum system. I feel so incomplete.

I mean I still have my SNESE, Sega Genesis, SEGA CD, SEGA 32X and EVERY other system box but not the Gamecube box. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy the boxed system to fill that void I feel.

Anyone have any experience with PSOLoad? Tried and failed for like 3 hours.... I should be good to go according to everything Ive read. Would massively appreciate any help.

Would you say that there is a big difference on the 20L5 for GCN in 480i vs. 480p mode via the same component connection?

On a fixed pixel HDTV, 480p is obviously a must for GCN games. But on a CRT? I'm wondering if I will see much difference in anything other than on-screen text in upgrading from a 480i PVM to an HD PVM/BVM. I feel like for moving images, 480i is probably fine on a CRT.

If you could test GCN games in 480i mode on your 20L5 and give me your impressions, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

Comparison finally done. All shots were done with the GCN Component cables, the 480p ones had me enable progressive scan at boot, the 480i's had me selecting no progressive scan at boot.

480i:

480p:

Now just to note, it can be hard to capture colors on accurately on my cell phone camera, but if you just look at the pause menu HUD the difference in quality is huge.

Now if that wasn't a good enough measure of quality I decided to record the intro of the game on my PVM in both 480i and 480p. Take a look and decide for yourself:

480i Intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vamy4OyIofU

480p Intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW-4K5Qw92A

And some more fun 480p shots I took:

Hope that helps you out. Of course everything looks 1000 times better in real life as I am just recording a CRT monitor with a cell phone, but it should give you a decent idea of the difference between 480i and 480p on a PVM.

Thanks for doing this SegaShack. Clearly, 480p looks a hell of a lot cleaner.

Looks like a big enough difference for me to seek out a 480p-capable crt after all.

Thank you for taking the time to make this happen. It was very valuable.

Just picked this game off of eBay. I know that Treasure doesn't list this game in their library of games on their website but it looks hilariously awesome and bad at the same time, plus I love almost all games Treasure makes and that Sin & Punishment style music! Plus it was only $25 bucks complete.

Managed to find a Japanese Spice GameCube, complete with GameBoy Player and startup disc. So happy!

I mean, I'm not gonna go out and start a Japanese GC collection at this point, I have piles and piles of PAL games, but I just love the colour so much that I couldn't turn it down.

Some day I'll find a pearl white game boy player... Some day...

I'm thinking about getting a Panasonic Q for about $350... It has the DVD remote, but not the gray Panasonic branded controller-- just two standard Nintendo controllers. It's very tempting....

I have heard that there are two verisions of the Q-- one that is Japanese region only and another that is region free. Is this true? Is there away of figuring out which model is which with the serial #?

I don't really have much of a Gamecube collection... I just started my collection.

  • Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
  • Baten Kaitos Origins

That is all... :(

I'd like to get all these games some day:
  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
  • Gameboy player
  • Skies of Arcadia
  • Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
  • Ikaruga
  • Chibi Robo! Plug Into Adventure!
  • Pokemon Colosseum
  • Star Fox Adventures
  • Star Fox: Assault
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Mario Party 4
  • Mario Party 5
  • Mario Party 6
  • Mario Party 7

Maybe the Resident Evil Games... maybe.

A very good start though!! BKO is a masterpiece and secretly one of the best games of the gen.

I don't even remember what I had in my collection.

Jet on release day
Waverace
Starwars
RE
RE0
Zelo OOT / WW
Metroid
Sunshine

Traded it into Gamestop for $200 and that was that.
Every now and then I get sad. But I barely have enough time to keep up with Xbox now.

If those component cables are in such high demand, were knock offs made?

Another new pickup, I love the box art and the clean look, plus this is probably one of my favorite snowboarding games.

Whoa. I didn't even know they had a pearl white gamecube, let alone a pearl white gamecube player?

When were these available?

Gotta save up a little extra for FE:PoR. Damn thing is damn near $150 buck CDN on ebay. I want that to be my next GC game though...

They were given away as prizes in a competition held in either Dengeki or Famitsu magazine i can't remember which of the 2 it was but there were only 150 of them made.

That looks a ton better than Avalanche.

It works on PAL 64s but the image is usually too bright or something. This can be fixed by modding either the console or cable. Some shops online sell a specially modded cable.

PAL Super Nintendo can do it, I'm not aware of any issues there beyond buying a decent quality cable, but that applies in all situations.

Bought this baby factory sealed with pedals and everything.

I should be getting it in a few days. Mainly got it for F-Zero GX as I've never played it with a wheel. I've mastered that game and still play it every now and then and I'm sure playing it with a wheel will make it seem brand new again.

There are pretty much no gameplay videos with this wheel which is a bit disappointing so I'm thinking about doing a let's play.

There are games specifically designed for this wheel and I've been looking at a handful of titles that have my interest. R Racing Evolution is the one I'm most interested but there aren't that many new impressions on it and I'm wondering if it still holds up.
