Now that I've got these all I'm missing is the official Gamecube component cable and then I've got every released Gamecube accessory.
I called my local gamestop and they seem to have several of the BC units in stock. They're selling them for $75. That seems a tad bit expensive, but at least I'll have the piece of mind of returning it if I find any problems. I feel like eBay is a more risky proposition.
Speaking of risky propositions, I know that piracy was rampant on the Wii. Any tips for how to deal with a molded Wii? Can I restore a nodded Wii to factory settings? I never owned a Wii believe it or not haha
peace of mind is all well and good, but wow, 75? in any case, make sure they give you a legit wii remote and nunchuck and none of that 3rd party bs.
gamble option: pawn shop. they vary, but the lowest I've seen at pawn shops for a wii system and controller, any model, is usually 30. don't be discouraged if the system's missing the little plastic covers for the GCN ports, those are replaceable.
as for modding, yeah, you can restore them, but faint traces will still remain.
TL;DR: if you got the cash and really want it sooner than later, gamestop. personally i'd try a pawn shop or a yard sale, but that's just me. Good Luck.

Wow, the prices on these dropped back down to normal levels. Wonder what caused them to go up so much a while back?

Nice. Prep for Smash U?
Perhaps it was the Smash Wii U hype swell? That version will allow GCN controllers via an adapter.
Why is it so expensive?
Edit: completed listings on eBay show an average of 30 to 40$. Am I getting this right? It doesn't sound that expensive compared to NES and SNES games running into the hundreds.
I remember when GC was still being carried, Target had like 10 copies on super clearance for 2.24 each. I should have grabbed a few, but only grabbed 1, opened it and played it. Like some kind of gamer or something. -_-
Another alternative is a PAL GC with RGB cables, or a NTSC GC with S-Video cables (not as good but still nice through a Framemeister), if you just want it for Gameboy Player use.
On the topic of RGB, I was thinking of getting a SCART cable since they're pretty cheap and are supposed to offer the best quality image outside of component, but no TVs actually have a SCART port. But, what if I get a SCART to component cable? I know it won't be 480p and it'l be 480i, that isn't the point, the point is to just have something that looks better than composite (and there are SCART to composite cables as well but that negates the whole point). Yes, no, would it look better than composite? I can get both cables for under $30.
EDIT: Twin Snakes is about $80-90 here. Why the hell was nobody buying these games when they came out?

those are sweet-looking. i've never seen them before. i wish i still had all of my gamecube stuff. it was a cool system with some great games. i'd kill for an hd remaster of f-zero gx.
edit:
once the gcn controller adapter comes out will i be able to play all wii u games with a gcn controller? if so, i should pick a couple of those white ones up myself.
Firstly, thanks a lot to you and everyone else for replying to all my posts.Ah I see. Well I guess it's a decision to make. If you get a chip you won't need to buy the SD Media Launcher, and it'll play all your games. The Spice GC is the JP one you were talking about right? If so you'd need to get that modded to play your US games anyway. You could always do a case swap too!
Fair point on RGB scart. Most TVs in the UK these days don't come with an S-video port, so that's something for me to consider. My TV has it because it's an older HDTV, from 2005, perhaps 2006. Even if I get my GC chipped, I have no way of burning to these mini DVDs, my computer only accepts the big ones, so I'd run it from the SD media launcher. You mention SD memory cards...are these different to the SD media launcher? If so, can you recommend where to get them? The advantage of having a chip in a PAL system is it will play any region and also has RGB (but not s-video, but as I'm an RGB fan that's no loss to me personally). If you get the early model with the digital port you also have access to Component later if you decide to splash out on the cable. Also with the chip, you won't need to buy the SD Media Launcher. You could add an SD memory card for a few bucks down the line if you want to run homebrew off of SD too. I just bought two more from China for like $8.
Thanks for the link to the eBay seller. S/he seems to be selling a fair few different SNES RGB scarts, so I may come back to you on this when I'm ready to buy. It looks like I'll go for a PAL GC which has a digital AV port just in case I ever find a decent deal on component cables. That's RGB SCART yep, but you don't need the official cable at all. This eBay seller makes great quality cables, for example. NTSC SNES RGB SCART cables work with the PAL Gamecube as they're identical, so I just use one of those.
As far as I understand, RGB > Component in terms of picture quality, particularly in colour quality. The only reason you'd use Component is for 480p, as RGB SCART cannot do 480p. As we're talking 240p here though, RGB SCART is where it's at I think (although you could do it through Component and the picture should still be pretty much the same, but the cables are terribly expensive).
I just can't get this bloody site to work on my home internet connection. I can access the site on my mobile through my phone network provider's connection though. Perhaps my ISP is barring this site for some reason or other. Here's the direct link. I had trouble loading earlier on my tablet but it's fine on my PC now so it might work for you now.
This shouldn't be an issue if I buy it from the UK site and use a PAL GC, right? I trust it won't be an issue even if I used a JPN GC which was modded to be region free?I can't find much info, but it does appear to be region locked.
I'll pop by that thread soon. Just to check, if I had a PVM, I wouldn't need a XRGB mini to go with it...right, or is a combination of both needed?Probably not... We're all freaking out over 240p because it's ideal for upscalers like the XRGB series and on high end monitors (PVMs, BVMs). Up until now there wasn't really a good way to experience GBA games on the big screen (or even GBC since the Super Gameboy won't play GBC-only games). The Gameboy Player was okay before but 240p with scanlines is what we've always pined for.
Swing on back to the Upscalers, CRT's, PVM's & RGB thread again and we can help you figure out a setup. Sounds like you need to just get the mini though to be honest![]()

SA2B can be bought for 15-25 bucks disc only.

If I get a chip, does it matter which chip is installed? I have only found the Xeno chip online. I've been recommended Qoob but can't find it. If you or anyone knows where I can, do let me know. Also: good tip on the case swap, sounds like a plan - I'd have to ask the guy modding the system for me to do it though, as I wouldn't risk it!

that said, while the 240p hack for the GBA player is neat, i have an upscaler so it's kinda pointless for me
Well, hey, Live and Learn, as Sonic Adventure 2 would teach youyup, just won it yesterday for $13, problem solved! i should know better than to gauge things off BIN's, those are crap
Why is it pointless with an upscaler? Just outta curiosity...
i can manually set the res, though i don't recall if 240p is an option - most things i do either 720 (better on the scanlines) or 480p for some content. it's like the widescreen patches on some GC stuff, it looks cool but i already have a device handling such things for me.
Hi guys -- I always see this thread pop up, and I think to myself, "Jon, you have an entire box of Gamecube games in mint condition in cases with manuals - you should probably sell them!"
So I mean, if I did decide to part with some of them, would this be an acceptable place to post listings? I mean, I am not expecting to get $40 for a copy of Nightfire, but I sure trust Gaffers than your average Joe on eBay.
I honestly don't know what people are looking for, but if anyone has any requests, shoot me a PM and maybe we can work something out.
This thread is a good place: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=743986
Oh okay. I just assumed you'd want the best signal possible going into an upscaler (particularly 240p) for superior picture quality. So you'd have the GBA native res being fed into it, rather than some scaling done by the Gamecube which then has to be rescaled again by the upscaler.
Yep, it's a slot loading drive (I have an iMac). Are you certain your burner only takes full size discs? Check the tray, there's often a little dip in there for a mini-disc to sit in. I haven't had an optical drive in my PC for nearly 10 years now but I use a cheap external that has a spindle you pop them onto and it works great. You could always go for the SD Media Launcher as well as modding though, so you can launch it that way.
Oh wow, let me know how that goes. I didn't know it's possible to run GC games off a memory card on the GC itself - I'd be interested in doing the same. I do have my discs backed up via USB Loader on Wii.By SD Memory Cards I mean the physical memory card which either has built in memory (like the one that comes with SD Media Launcher) or there are cards you can get and plug an SD card in yourself. Both work with the SD Media Launcher disc. They are readily available on eBay and other sites. SD Media Launcher can only read regular SD, but once you're into Swiss you can read SDHC. A lot of people get one from the link above and put a 32GB card on with all their games; it's something I'm planning to try out soon so I can maybe put my Gamecube games into storage with my Wii games.
Right, I'm going to have to bug you again. She has a number of cables, which one should I get:If you have the funds and you're certain about RGB SCART I'd grab a cable off her now, and she hand makes them and can go weeks or months without stock sometimes.
ehhh i get you but i'm not seeing a huge difference from what's been posted, personally - they look great, but i don't think what i'm seeing on my setup is far off, i guess. kind've a moot point at the moment since the flashcart (prefer playing on) i got inna mail a little while seems to be booty buttcheeks/not wanna work anyway =/
I wish Krizz would make one. The GB/Game Boy Color Everdrive is fantastic.kind've a moot point at the moment since the flashcart (prefer playing on) i got inna mail a little while seems to be booty buttcheeks/not wanna work anyway =/
Super Nintendo stereo RGB SCART lead FULLY SHIELDED+GROUNDED cable cord US SNES
Which one is relevant for me? That last one seems to be specifically for XRGB mini. Whilst I plan on getting one, it may not be for a while, those are expensive. If I got one of the other cables, would I be able to hook it up to the XRGB mini?
Thanks.
My TV has two scart sockets, so just ordered the one you recommended. I can worry about the converter once I get a XRGB mini. Thanks. Are you just plugging into a TV with SCART, if so get the one I left there. The other ones have sync modifiers to work with some specific equipment, are "pro" versions which just offer more shielding and might be advisable later if you have interference problems with a regular cable (but these aren't that common), or are JP 21 cables which are a different standard.
You do need JP 21 for the XRGB mini and you must not plug RGB SCART into that (at risk of damaging your equipment) but she does also sell a little converter that lets you use RGB SCART cables with the XRGB mini.

Next steps are to get the SD Launcher and a Xeno chip to get the mod done, get a GB Player and perhaps a spice Gamecube so I can get a case swap done. Argh, quite a few steps to go.
So how's that EZ Flash IV now Irish? Huh? Huh?![]()
haha sorry peagles; gunsmith has it & said he'd PM ye <3
basically...it doesn't wanna work. i tried the flash sequence thing you need to do to initialize it but it just doesn't respond; tried on my GBA, gun's, and my GBA player, but nothin'. it's useless without doing that first, cause it doesn't recognize stuff i dump on the card till it's flashed i guess...so it just boots into this empty thing of a terrible darth vader skin =/
As Jamix012 pointed out, if you have an NTSC 'cube, you won't be able to use RGB. Even if you could, SCART to component won't work with just a cable, the signal needs to be transcoded.
You two should talk![]()
Well I'm in Australia so I've got a PAL console, but yeah the signal.
Bugger! If this was a few months ago you could have still bought a component cable from Nintendo Australia.
Transcoders can be had for about $50, so that's another option.
Seriously?! Nintendo of Australia was still selling GC accessories? When did this happen?
They were available from there for years, but they ran out a couple of months ago. You have to call them up, they don't have an online shop. I got some Gameboy Micro faceplates from there too. Because you just have to call and request stuff for personal use you can't get a list of everything available, but they have quite a few unusual items available (or rather, they did, before the internet got wind of it).
Called them, said they had some name plates, RF switches, some plates for the ports underneath the console and some Broadband Adaptors, thats about it. The Broadband Adaptors are $60 from them, so that's a decent price.
bububut we did earlier! argh lemme go text that bum
If it helps, my photos look about half as good as it actually looks in person. It's certainly a huge step up for 480i for me on a PVM. Comparing baphomet's videos on Youtube which are taken via the XRGB, I definitely prefer the 240p, but they seem to be without scanlines or anything extra added with the scaler, so I don't know if any scaler functions could make the 480p look better.
EZ Flash IV? Can I help at all? I just set up a bad ass one for my brother awhile ago and about to set mine up the same way (with a really clean skin on the OS too) so PM me if you're having trouble.
To be fair I did try to call you after we got it working
Also <3 peagles for helping my dumbass figure it out. Stupid fat formatting...
got a link to the theme / skin?
Thanks for that, saves me calling. I was going to see if they had any RGB SCART cables.
Do any modern TVs have RGB SCART ports anymore?
Two questions:
Can I play Gamecube Imports using an Action Replay disc?
Is the Gamecube remake of Bonk 1 fun?
Bonus Question: Anyone got a worthwhile list of JP exclusive Gamecube games? Stuff to play without much JP knowledge.
