I dunno, after playing Smash 4, it just feels a little too weighty.

Yeah, thats how I feel. Besides, even if the mechanics are preferred, the sheer lack of content when compared to newer Smash's (mainly Smash 4 Wii U) makes it less preferable to me.

Still a fantastic game though.

Just got a wavebird from ebay

Don't know how I lived without this before

It's amazing

Not to bring you down, but I've had some issues with it. It seems like the wireless signal isn't 100% reliable. This sucks when trying to hold down buttons, like say in Luigi's Mansion, as the signal cutting out for even 1/10th of a second it interrupts the button hold.

I switched back to using only wired controllers after getting really frustrated in Luigi's Mansion, and made sure to buy some extensions since the cords are really short.

I feel the same way, though it doesn't make it any less of a stellar game.

I should play Melee a bit before Smash U comes out, at this point I probably won't play any other Smash game for a looong time.

The white gamecibe controllers from 2008 or 2009 have a longer cable like 9 feet or so. The Smash U branded one coming out later this month will be the same. I'm curious about the extension cords though. They don't introduce any lag do they?

I'm thinking of ordering a Megadrive (v3 specifically) and a Wasp board. Anyone use the Megadrive? It sounds good, but was curious if anyone on this board tried it.

First I've seen of any issues, but I'll definitely be mindful of anything. The battery compartment just feels so much better too me.

I have a clear extension chord, and a shitload of OEM GC controllers now that I actually think about it.

I am reading someone on Krizz's forum saying they got audio streaming titles to play fine on the Gamecube using a hard wired Wiikey Fusion. Everywhere else I read states Wii Key Fusion has problems with the audio on audio streaming games. Anyone know?
Gamecube has a certain amount of audio games. These games can be played with the wiikey fusion, however, the games will not support audio (you wont hear the audio that was supposed to be streamed, be that music or sound effects, depends on the games) here is a list of audiostreaming games http://www.gc-forever.com/wiki/index.php?title=Audio_Streaming
Previously, audiostreaming games using the wiikey fusion would crash/and/or produce loud sound ''chirping'', because of the gamecube expecting an audiostream, but not receiving any and would thus be unplayable. Wiikey fusion fixed that in a later update iirc, and audiogames can be played mostly without crashes/bugs etc., but you still wont be hearing audio of those games. Presumably, that forum member was talking about that update. All other games should work correctly (with audio), super smash bros melee runs perfectly in widescreen with swiss on my cube, it has even quicker load times! Hope this clarifies it a little and anyone feel free to correct me if/where I'm wrong.

I've ordered a V5 and V3 , and wasp among some other little things. Because my soldering skills suck decided to use the V3 and keep the V5 for the future if my skills feel up to the task. I've been using the V3 for more than a week now, and it is an outstanding piece of equipment from the community at gamecube forever (credits to megalomaniac). I can be quite short on my expeience: it is plug and play and just works, no fiddling around, I only had to solder 1 tiny connection on the V3 board itself: the lid switch of the gamecube is now registered as closed permanently. However, you may choose to install a switch for the lid to be open/closed for multi-disc isos disc swapping, but I was lazy. All in all would highly recommend V3 if soldering skills are not up to par.

I've been using the same two Wavebirds bought at launch for 12 years, and have never ever had any issues. Greatest controller ever made.

You must just have a bad/damaged one, they are usually flawlessly reliable.

Or there's some kind of interference at 2.4GHz.

Like it's usually fine but holding buttons occasionally leads to it not registering as held. It's not exactly common but enough to fuck you up while trying to suck in ghosts.

Yeah, I've used my Wavebirds pretty much exclusively since I got a GC and I've never had any problems whatsoever with them when it comes to inputs.

Then again, I know how wonky a lot of wireless connections can be so I don't doubt that it can happen occasionally.

my wavebird was always a bit off.

sometimes it wouldn't register a couple of inputs, I always assumed it was because it was running out of batteries but I am not sure... I'd change batteries and then the problem would continue but I wasn't sure if the batteries were new... :P yeah, not sure

Thanks for your response! I'm still pondering the V3. Since it sounds like you just popped the drive out and put the replacement in, does the SD reader and such fit fine inside of the case? And I think I read somewhere it can support SDXC-- 128GB SD card would be pretty nifty to pop in there.

This is the blue Nintendo should have used instead if the "blue" they settled on.

Really nice job!.

It does fit inside the case easily. However, I've installed it where the sd card pops up; where the lens was supposed to be, and that requires the removal of innards of the disc reader, such as the lens, motor, etc. You'll see it when you take it apart. After some fiddling it fits nicely, however, I did have to breake a few plastic pins of the empty shell disc reader in order to create a little space, for the wasp and ffc cables to not bend to much. I'll see if I can make a picture later when I open the cube again.

Regarding your SD card: If your wiikey/wasp is flashed wits swiss(I believe it comes as such where you order it, thus allowing autoboot, or auto load depending on the sd card brand), you no longer require WBFS formatted cards. Swiss does accept 128 GB cards, but only sees 64 GB, so you can only use 64 GB iirc. I am not quite sure if swiss accepts SDXC, (i believe it does, but not 100% sure) but you can always check gamecube-forever.com for more info.

Thanks, all the cubes look slightly lighter irl, because of yelllow lighting in the room, but it looks ok yes. After a few weeks, I think red looks the best.

Thanks for the repy! I'm currently messing around with Nintendont on the Wii. I may just be lazy and do GC on the Wii, though dat component output on Gamecube is excellent.

Finally started Star Fox Adventures today after owning it since forever, and this game is...not terrible? Its actually really fun if you just treat it as an action-adventure and not a Star Fox-game. Very early still though, so my opinion might change, but at least its showing some good promise so far.

I actually liked that game even when it was 1st out and I still like it now.

The game is pretty impressive up front but the drab level design and the collectathon aspect of the game gets weary after a while.

Yeah, I always felt the game probably got a bad rep from being a bit too different from expectations, and I definitely feel so now after playing the start of it.

Ok this sucks to hear. I guess its Rare - the masters of collectathons after all :)

A lot of games that are continually trashed on the internet aren't actually bad but just not what people wanted at the time.

Clearing out my old gaming stuff and came across an unused official Nintendo RGB Scart lead for a Gamecube, complete with packaging.

I originally bought it years ago in anticipation of an eventual GC purchase that never happened, so I just tucked it away and forgot about it.

Are they sort after/worth anything?

Nah, the RGB SCART cables are unfortunately not worth much at all since there wasn't anything special about them that prevented third party manufacturers from making them. Official ones are obviously worth more than third party ones but nothing extreme like with the component cables.

Was looking in the attic for Christmas decorations and I found this:

dsc_0157p3k9v.jpg

Its one of the two pads I got at the UK launch in May 2002. I lost it shortly after and assumed it had been nicked by a mate or thrown out. Nope, just in a corner of the attic untouched for twelve years.

I took it apart, gave it a bit of cleaning, and now it looks like this:

Much better. Works as good as new too. I swear the gamecube controller is designed to last forever.

That is quite the improvement! Nothing beats a brand new gamecube controller melting in your hand. When they are still brand new, they have that luxurious feel to them.

Virtually all of the launch GCN controllers that my friends and I had were defective. The C-sticks would never align to neutral correctly. Opened and cleaned some of them to no avail, too.

Never had a problem with any of the system's controllers bought after that, though.

Which launch though? Uk launch was over half a year after everyone else. Both of my launch pads work just as well as my white JP one I bought brand new a year ago.

Starting to get in to Gamecube so I picked up a bunch of things.

I picked up this Gamecube on Ebay & a new memory card on Amazon:

For controllers I got 2 of the Smash reissues Nintendo just released.

This was important:

Important because I payed an OBSCENE amount of money for this:

Thankfully, it was worth it. I shot a quick comparison video to demo the difference between component vs composite.

Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO4d3FHY-40

These are the game I got to kick things off:

I love the tiny Japanese GC game cases:

I needed this thing to play the Japanese game:

Well, it's a start.

Yeah, the Nintendo Puzzle Collection contains a port of the unreleased Japanese version of Panel de Pon 64 (Pokemon Puzzle League) with 3-4 player multiplayer added (on N64 it's two player only), a port of the US-exclusive-on-N64 N64 game Dr. Mario 64, and one new title, the Yoshi's Cookie remake. Pretty great stuff, it's stupid Nintendo never released it here even if we did get the N64 versions of two of the titles while Japan didn't.

Well, it's a start.

Good start! Welcome to the club. It's a great system with some of the best games of all time, and a ton of other nice ones, too - far more than it gets credit for, usually.

I like that you didn't compromise in the face of Nintendo's most illogical, short-sighted decision in their entire history (which is really saying something) - to not sell component cables in stores. Good for you!
