Just got this puppy off Craigslist for $70! I thought I would never get this game or pay through the nose for it. :)

::EDIT:: :::IMPORTANT QUESTION::: ::EDIT::

Just got home to try and play it and my DOL-001 won't play it. I can boot to the system's OS menu and the console recognizes that the game disc is Gotcha Force; however, when it launches, I get a disc read error.

Thankfully I have 4 other Cubes handy (3 are DOL-001 and 1 is a DOL-101). None of the DOL-001 Cubes will play the game with the Component video cable. One will go immediantly to a black screen with yellow text saying the game disc won't read, but the other 2 will start to play, but after 3 seconds, the game will freeze and I will get the disc read error message. All you see is "Presented by Nintendo" on a black screen before it stops.

The DOL-101 will play it just fine, but that uses the Composite video cable only. Is this a known issue with Gotcha Force? I have done a quick Google search, but I can't find anything like this issue being reported. The box doesn't mention the game having progressive scan mode, but I have never heard of a Cube game not playing with component cables; just some Dreamcast games with the VGA adapter.

I have tried playing it on the DOL-001 with composite, but I still have the read errors.

seems to be that the disc is fucked up.

this problem exists only in pal regions where you cant play games with the s-video signal.
since you are an american(ESRB-symbol on the box) i suppose the gamedisc has been polished or grinded. but iam not sure. on the other hand, try to lay down the disc on a steady floor to see if the disc has a bent place or something. my killer 7 disc 1 has a weird bump, but i replaced it back then.

D-terminal cables are not worth the money. you can play gc games with your component cable on your wii, if you have the first model.

gc controllers, memory cards and discs can easily be used for that. buying a gc d terminal cable is simply insane.
i think its not worth going through the trouble.
if you should go to japan, try to track down the cables over there since they cost less than 50$ over there.

You know you're deep into the GameCube rabbit hole when you're getting the EA games with exclusive Nintendo content (Fight Night Round 2, SSX On Tour, NBA Street V3. Fortunately the games are good on their own.

SSX On Tour is fantastic, one of my favourite games on the Cube!
It's crazy to think that Nintendo are doing the same thing now with allowing their characters into third party games. Wii U truly is the GameCube 2.

they have been doing this for a few games.... soul calibur 2 also had something like that.

and yeah, they started that with the gamecube, but dont forget the shameful shit with the philips cd-i and the super mario bros. movie. tossing out your precious IPs lets them turn into garbage, if not carefully done.

Gamecube has absolutely been dominating my gaming time this winter. Almost done with my first playthroughs of Paper Mario TTYD and Chibi Robo, then it's off to Baten Kaitos Origins, Viewtiful Joe 1+2, and Metroid Prime 2.

The farther away we get from 2004 the harder it is to understand why this system was so maligned when it was out.

A few reasons

A) The color, even though black one was available day 1, it's the purple one that everyone remembers

B) 3rd party games were usually missing features compared to the PS2\Xbox versions , due to the smaller discs and Nintendo not knowing how to do network gaming, which was just getting started.

C) The Xbox stole the userbase that Nintendo had built up with the N64 in the west, especially in the FPS department (didn't help that Iwata pulled everything back to Japan), aka, the Halo effect.

D) As much praise as the GC controller gets, it did lack three buttons that the Xbox and DS2 had (Black\White, which would be equivilent to the L1\R1 on the DS2, on the Xbox and L1\R1 on the DS2, the GC only has one, the Z button) and the lack of clickable analog sticks made it a bit harder to port games over.

Honestly, the GC is my second favorite Nintendo system (SNES being the first, NES being the 3rd). So many fantastic games on that console.

wow me too. i had so many great memories with the gc. a few games are still missing in my collection, but i hold my gc dear.

i also have three cubes in different colours and i totally love them.

its sad to see how the gc was killed by the newly-born xbox. still cant understand it.

and about online functions... except the xbox no one ever dared to be online with those system. i only knew 2 other guys with an xbox being online everyone else with ps2 and gc never tried it or never heard about that.

It is pretty funny that some third-party GameCube games got exclusive content (EA Sports games, Soul Calibur II, Mortal Kombat: Deception, among others) mostly due to lack of online play for the GameCube, because now they're the most sought-after versions because of their exclusive content! I guess that benefited those games in the long run since online play doesn't work anymore on PS2 and Xbox. Lol.

there were also games which used the interconnectivity due the lack of disc-space, missing button or online-features.

splinter cell and r:racing benefitted from this.

Yeah it is funny, I bought those titles for xbox mainly because of online, not giving any thought that one day the online would be shut off.

holy shiiiiit Thousand Year Door is good. I've had to put it down just before the last chapter, but I can't wait to get back home and finish it. Everything about it is just sublime, and I'm very glad it's in my collection now.

Just finished the Prime trilogy as well, so I'm rather glad I've had a little cube backlog after 2014 being a bit rubbish. Still remaining: Eternal Darkness, Beyond Good and Evil, Resident Evil 0.

lol, i think, it wasnt a thing back in 2004 that online services will eventually shut down. but i already thought back then, when i saw the first dlc priced for some bucks that this is ridiculous... a song pack for DDR... what will you do once your console breaks or when online wont work anymore....

Always nice to read how someone loves TTYD, it also completely blew me away, not knowing what to expect. Enjoy your last chapter, its in my top 5 gamecube games.
Also, is Super Paper Mario for wii worth playing? I've heard bad things about its successor

Have not yet played beyond good&Evil yet, but eternal darkness is quite a unique experience. One that I enjoyed thoroughly, again, not knowing what to expect.

I hated Super Paper Mario. It lacks the platforming chops of a real Mario game, yet has none of the gameplay sophistication of Paper Mario. It's got charm, sure, but I found myself bored to tears by it.

there was some thinking to rename all those games.

super mario rpg didnt become super mario rpg 2 on n64=> paper mario
super paper mario was a game for gc but got cancelled. they scrapped it and it turned out to be much different from its predecessor so maybe thats why its called super paper mario.

also a lot of people forget that the gc version of twilight princess was ready to be released at the end of 2005 but they thought it would be a nice launch game for wii so they delayed it for a year.

i cant be mad at nintendo because all those games are still awesome, even after delaying and scrapping and releasing it after all.

Super Paper Mario gets too much shit for not being TTYD2, its a complete different beast.
I don't hate it because it's different. Hell, I love Sticker Star and that's VERY different. I don't like SPM because:

The Paper Mario series has passable platforming elements that are generally ignored since the main focus is on the RPG elements. Take that away and all that's left is a clunky game that is just not fun to actually play.

Over the last week I realized that I have never played Super Mario Sunshine. So what did I do on the night Christmas? Bought a good condition copy off eBay for $40 shipped.

And now I'm eyeing copies of Baten Kaitos Origin and Skies of Arcadia Legends. Ugh... this is going to be expensive.

I know the feeling. I was hoping to stumble on Sunshine at a goodwill, as I did with luigis mansion, but never did. I just jumped on a complete copy at a used bookstore here for $30.

Did BK:O go up in price recently? I didn't think it was all that expensive. Don't remember when I got mine, maybe a couple years ago, but I don't think I paid more than $15 or so?

Not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if that Monolithsoft thirst became real in a post-Xenoblade world.

i also bought my copy right after the wii launched. got it for around 20 bucks sealed.
its insane how some games got expensive. i bought shadow of the colossus in 2008 for 8pounds sealed for ps2. other games such as gotcha force were found in the sale bins back then in germany, now people go crazy for such a game (the game isnt even fun). you never know what will be the next rare treasure :/

Fantastic collection! Breaming with quality there....

Thanks!

There's 2 Baten Kaitos games and he only has one. That's what he meant by him missing one.

Also nice collection Heca I recommend the Lost Kingdom games if you are still looking.

I remember playing the first game when it came out and I didn't like it too much. There are other games I'd rather pick up first, like SF Assault and Simpsons Hit n Run (which was stolen from me :( )

EDIT - Just realized that Mario Sunshine is missing from the picture, durr.

Thanks!

I can understand if you didn't like it. It has some flaws that I imagine could be quite off-putting.

Laughably inferior in terms of third party support though. Funny enough, GC was getting maligned during its time for its third party compared to ps2 and xbox...

Another key difference is that Nintendo games went on sale on the GC. Coupled with the GC's low price... It was a system that delivered lots of fun at a price that didn't break the bank.

Thanks!

Please give Origins a chance. While I like the first Baten Kaitos, it's definitely rough and not for a lot of people because of it. BKO is amazing though and one of my favourite RPGs ever.

My humble collection, still missing quite a few but fortunately most were picked up before prices started spiraling out of control. REALLY want Fire emblem POR, but looks like I'd have to sell my kidney for that one....

Here's my collection. Not very large, but there's some of my favorite games of all time in there, and a couple that are getting hard to find.

Viewtiful Joe 1&2 are in the mail, and I forgot to include Odama in the pictures.

I dont know if this is frowned upon in this thread but i recently went overboard and bought too many amiibo and im selling alot of gamecube games. Problem is it isnt selling. Im selling melee, wind waker, remake, donkey konga 2, jungle beat, skies of arcadia, twilight princess, tales of symphonia. Im just selling the disc so is that why i have no bites? Any advice?http://www.ebay.com/itm/191468633118?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
I do have offer up to and not one offer yet

Expensive lots are going to be harder to sell than individual games, most of the time people are only looking for a specific game. On top of that, disc-only is going to be a lot less attractive to the majority of people buying GC games at this point. So you've got both of those going against you.

I'd suggest trying to sell them individually. Yes, it's more work, but you're more likely to get people to bite on them one game at a time.

I need to find a PAL Viewtiful Joe 2 cover, because when I initially bought Viewtiful Joe the dude accidentally put a VJ2 disc and manual instead and I was too lazy to go back get it sorted out and also because 2 was way more money than 1 at the time so I got a good deal. I suppose that's karma for being a dishonest little shit.

Anyone got a solution or spare official cover lying about? I printed my own cover but it looks kind of bad. Hell, I take a NTSC cover if possible. I'd be willing to pay a little cash (more for a PAL one though).

No case and manual will probably play a major role as well, but there's also the issue of them being sold together.

200 dollars is a lot of money, so you'll have to find someone who is interested in the majority of those games. Most collectors will probably only be interested in 1 or 2 of those at a time.

I found the Gamecube preview disc. It's the one that had demos of Soul Calibur 2, Billy Hatcher, Sonic Adventure 2 and Splinter Cell. Also had hype videos for FZero GX and 1080 Avalanche (then known as 1080 White Storm IIRC) that I replayed over and over. As I remember it this was available by mail order. Anyone know if there is any sort of demand for it?

This is my first post in this thread, just though I'd share my game collection. My gamecube collection is pretty small, as back in the day it was my third console, and being a poor high school/college student I couldn't afford many games.

I mainly got the console for metroid prime and resident evil back in the day, but now that I have a job, I'd like to get some games I've missed out on. For now I'm looking to get Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario TTYD and Fire Emblem. I just wish Fire Emblem wasn't so expensive.

Well, it could be many things. From the looks of it--Wait, you live in Cleveland?! PMed!
