The more information Nintendo gives about NX internally, the greater chance it has of being leaked externally. Nintendo wants to make sure they control the message of NX so if Friday's presentation is to all internal employees, an external message would follow within a fairly quick turnaround.

1. He isn't going to guess Friday, and instead go with Thursday.
2. He isn't guessing Friday, because he knows it's Friday -- thus no need to guess.

If Nintendo is trying to model themselves after Apple, then an early March reveal followed by a late March launch wouldn't be out of the question. This is how Apple showcases and launches their new iPhones every year. They show it off for the first time then release it to the public all within 3-4 weeks

Nintendo of America's press site has been very quiet since October 14. The NX sub-domain that is available there has not changed as far as I can tell, still gives the same response (302 Found).
And they still, more than four months after E3 2016, have not updated the Breath of the Wild entry. It still says "The Legend of Zelda for Wii U (name not final)".
