The thing I've always wanted to ask to the AMD/DMP guys is how does that help with Nintendo's stated goal of unifying development and having brother-like platforms. Especially considering most of them say they'll release a several TF home-console first and then maybe a handheld a year later. Wouldn't they have to work backwards? is that even feasible?
 
Nintendo should just put up a countdown clock with no explanation so that everyone thinks it's for the NX and when the timer expires announce a reprint of some series 1 amiibos.

Then Reggie comes out and does the trademark shoulder shrug.

I really hope tomorrow morning we get a video. Man, this wait has been crazy. Rumors everywhere, a million GAF topics opening and closing at rapid fire, NX reddit literally dipping into insanity, etc.

Ain't a better time for Nintendo than now.

Dude, really?!!! Do you know how awesome that is? What are they doing; this is such a ridiculous steal it feels like I'm actually robbing some one. Don't we all already buy 200 Amiibo a year any way? Best price modeling for a system I've ever seen, hands down.
 
Keep in mind Nintendo did really try to integrate mainstream features into the Wii U with TVii and using the tablet as a remote. I foresee them looking towards what is important and desired in devices today (not VR) for the NX.

They'll insist that it's all software and that third-party support is Nintendo's #1 priority.

I am assuming that. They could showcase another launch title other than BotW and then talk about the upcoming mobile game and how it works.

What else is there to talk about? Amiibo support? They already did that. And they won't do a direct to simply announce a mobile title. They could talk about the new Animal Crossing for NX, how it works, etc.

The great think about Animal Crossing is that it is a meaty title that is incredibly popular and has very little overlap in terms of interest with Zelda. It would be a fantastic complementary launch title and I also fully expect a Luigi's Mansion game for launch as well.

I see at least 3 solid launch titles for NX (in addition to remasters like Splatoon) - Luigi's Mansion, BotW and Animal Crossing.

Luigi's Mansion will showcase the new controller gimmicks (like scrollable shoulder buttons), Animal Crossing will showcase the new social and network features, mobile integration and possibly new multiplayer options.

That is the one gamepad feature that I actually use. Lost your remote? Well you're in luck, no way you're losing that massive rectangle.
 
If it is the hybrid, then I want an Animal Crossing game sharpish. It's the perfect kind of title to show off playing on the go and then transitioning to the home console.

The biggest issue I have is that you don't find too much real data for the famous DMP GPU outside their speculations. So you can't even start to ask if the unifying development is even possible via the development framework or the gap would be too big.

I don't know how you can judge how he has been as CEO so far.

The lack of communication was intentional. The WiiU announcement and hype build up was an absolute disaster.

It has been a difficult year but he is (I'm assuming) hedging the bets on getting this console, it's branding, marketing, announcement, and release, correct.

What? AC is wildly popular. I know a bunch of people who got a 3DS just for New Leaf. It doesn't appeal to everyone, but it's definitely a break out title for Nintendo. I bet we'll see it by July.

I'm not convinced that Animal Crossing will be a first year NX title. It doesn't seem like a good game for an enthusiast launch crowd, but rather the latter larger crowd that follows. The production team seems to have their hands full with the mobile title, the 3ds expansion and the new Amiibo cards.

That's true but I was being charitable. I still don't see how it'd work unless you assume Nintendo would be making games designed around the limitations of the handheld.

The obvious truth is that they don't consider it all because they don't care about handhelds so they think Nintendo is going to concentrate on the home console to the handheld's detriment.

It is a top tier Nintendo IP; there is a reason why it's one of the like, 4 franchises they chose to bring to mobile first.

But I agree that it isn't a good pack in game.

It just doesn't feel right. Sort of like packing it in with Smash Bros.. Just feels wrong. it's too, specific of an experience I suppose, even if it has wide appeal to be a game that is packed in from day one.
 
I really hope the NX is both a handheld and console that are totally separate just sharing the same architecture for easier game sharing between the two. I don't want to pay for a display. I have a TV.

Disclaimer: I'm taking a serious look into how the NX will be announced after the Investors Meeting. You won't find any "tomorrow" shit or any other trigger words that belong in a shitpost.

I'm pretty sure that everyone believes the NX will be revealed this week due to the pressure of the Investors Meeting next Tuesday. Multiple sources are putting their money on the reveal being this week, but why? Is it because its logical?

There are two problems with revealing the NX this week:
  • Coverage of the event will only reach to Nintendo fans. Whenever advertising a new console, you generally want the audience to be as large as possible, right? Personally, Nintendo Directs seem to appeal to the Nintendo fanbase only. You need a larger audience to sell a new console, which leads to my next point.
  • Revealing NX within a few days of its announcement won't be that popular. Maybe this is too similar to my previous point, but in order to get a more hyped audience and larger coverage of the NX, you'd need to announce the reveal event WEEKS in advance. You need to have news coverage from various sites like IGN, Gamespot, and even GameXplain AS WELL AS allowing them to have an exclusive look at the console. If the NX was revealed through a Direct or any sort of live event this week, you'd need to have people fly over to Nintendo's headquarters to give their own opinions on the console. For example, the PS4 reveal event was announced three weeks in advance, and the Xbox One reveal was announced one month in advance. In that time, reporters flew into the area to cover the event, and both events had large audiences. Now, Nintendo doesn't have to host a live event, they just have to handle a reveal where gamers can receive information and reporters can have an in depth look at the console.

Assuming that the NX is revealed this week: what does it accomplish in relation to the Investors Meeting? Everyone already knows that Nintendo is working on the NX, why do we have to know what it is before the meeting? Now, all consoles aren't perfect. No matter how amazing the NX can be, there will always be a small population of the fandom who dislike it. That same claim can be applied to investors. If the NX was revealed before the meeting and there are some who don't like it, then Nintendo might lose some investors before the meeting.

Now consider this: what if they announce the reveal date at the Investors Meeting? It will give investors and gamers a date to look forward to, and it gives Nintendo the opportunity to bring various reporters to their event to even try out the NX. They can't ignore the NX either. If they fail to announce anything about it, then investors will get upset with the company.

Let me bring in one last point: The Game Awards. This year's event will be on December 1st, and it features a large audience of gamers. While there are awards being given, there are also previews of new games recorded there. In the two previous TGAs, Nintendo had a huge presence, with 2014 featuring Zelda footage, and 2015 featuring an homage to Iwata. What if they offered gamers there a hands on preview of the NX?

TL;DR: an NX reveal this week would be a bad marketing move. The audience will be limited to Nintendo fans, and gaming news outlets would have no in depth experiences with the console to report. Nintendo should make the announcement weeks in advance, like Sony and Microsoft, to garner more attention and greater media coverage. An announcement of the reveal event at the Investors Meeting is more efficient, it will keep investors hooked, and it gives Nintendo time to prepare their event for a wider audience. It will allow gamers to be engaged, and media outlets to try the system. Finally, it can give gamers a hands on preview at the Game Awards.

I can now guarantee the Direct is gonna happen that day.

If it does I'm finding a way out, count on it.

Eh, only the well informed enthusiast gaming crowd will be there for the reveal, regardless of whether it's announced early or not, unless they revealed it at the Apple event or something. I don't think it matters much. Everybody else will hear about it on news sites, commercials, in-store ads and actually seeing it on the shelf imo. The NX will stay in the public eye so long as Nintendo feeds the media with material.

It makes 0 sense to make a handheld tablet that looks exactly like Wii U after the Wii U failed. It makes no sense at all. This thing will not look like a Wii U, period.

Ubisoft said Nintendo learned from their mistakes.

Mistake #1 - Tablet Controller
Mistake #2 - $299 price point.

This thing will be a console like the Gamecube with some gimmick and be priced at $199 and be comparable in power to XBO and PS4.

This again. No one has given a good argument for why the Tegra X1 is a placeholder for a GPU from a completely different company i.e. AMD, DMP.

If you apply Occam's Razor, the simplest answer to explain what the Tegra X1 is a placeholder for is a newer model Tegra or a custom Nvidia GPU.

It requires more evidence to explain a complicated answer, which the complicated answer is that the final GPU is from AMD or DMP for some reason.

You don't need weeks in advance for the press if you just invite them to NoA and NoE headquarters for hands-on events. Or somewhere else, locally. A week should be more than enough. PS4 and Xbone reveals were live conference that need way more time for organising.

If Nintendo would have cared for the audience beyond the Nintendo Direct one, they would have revealed NX at E3. Or Gamescom. Or TGS.

The Game Awards is not quite the audience for a Nintendo console reveal. But it can be used to piggyback on the reveal happening soon.

Practically the whole posts reads as: "Nintendo should not reveal their console to their fans but to the other fans". Which is pretty stupid.

This week or next week, it doesn't really matter. However, if nothing happens within the next two weeks, heads will roll, pitchforks will rise and torches lit.

The initial reveal is going to be aimed at the core video game consumer and the info will then trickle out to the mainstream over the next four months.

The idea that the unveiling date needs to be announced weeks in advance is nonsense. We're living in the age of Social Media. This isn't 2005.

Nintendo Direct for games = nintendo fanbase

NX reveal = everyone will watch it

The argument of "not large enough audience for the reveal2 is bs. Eveyrone in the industry will watch the damn stream/video.

He doesn't take into account that launch details would be reserved for an event in January or February either way.

Also, he mentions the Game Awards, not realizing that announcing it now would mean that NX could be there while waiting would prevent that.

Rockstar basically announced Red Dead Redemption 2 on their Twitter feed and the whole fuckin' world went crazy. You dont need E3 when you're a known brand.
 
Nintendo Directs arent just for Nintendo fans. Every gaming site worth a damn covers the Direct and if its a new system being announced, you damn well bet mainstream media will pick it up too.

Thats where that "well reasoned" reddit posted is wrong.

This will be covered by every news outlet, not just gaming, so saying that it will only reach Nintendo fans is dumb, plus they will likely have a press hands on event later
