We got our rematch but that was some unimpressive shit in the last round... we CANNOT be that way for the US rematch

I still don't know how you can go in to the final with a loss on your record against a team that has beat you already and win the gold, but whatever, shitty tournament structure is shitty tournament structure.

Did Hamelin really push the Korean guy? I missed that replay.

Yeah, he did. In fact, he had his hand up in the armpit of the other guy, but whatever. :D

The fuck happened with the hockey game!?!?

I turned it off at the 3rd period at like 15 because i thought Canada had it in the bag. Then I hear my mom yelling, I go in, and fucking Slovakia is up 3-2 and they are playing hard.

Shit, that was close.

A lot of sports are like that, it's not unfair in the slightest.

If it was single elimination from the getgo, people would bitch.

That's called a round robin tournament. It been like that forever. And there is nothing wrong with it.

Round-robin and then single elimination playoffs is pretty standard. Are you new to sports?

They don't do it in baseball, they don't do it in American football, they don't do it in basketball. They don't do it in the NHL playoffs either. I'm not new to sports, I just dislike the ones that are shit.

I understand the concept, I just think it is shit (always).

You're wrong about basketball.

After group A teams all meet each other in round robin play, the top four teams will proceed to the quarterfinals, where they will each face a team from group B. Once they advance to the semifinals and beyond, teams from within group A may have a chance to square off again.

And you're wrong about baseball.

The tournament consisted of a round-robin, in which teams played each of the other teams, followed by semifinals and finals.

And football ? It would be the same thing is there was an Olympic tournament.

And once again I am terribly sorry that international sports can't figure out how to organize a tournament.

He's soley talking about American leagues and conveniently so.

Given that the US created both basketball and baseball, I do believe it fair that we get to decide the dominant structure for tournaments, no? :)

GO CANADA GO! Wow that was an intense 3rd period for Canada. 10 gold medals! We should be able to possibly pass 24 medals this Olympics. Too bad our women curling team didnt get gold, but they tried. Charles Hamelin got 2 golds! So proud :D

Those events have four or five month regular seasons and two month long playoffs. When you need to establish seeding quickly, then this is a good way to do it. They do the same thing for other short tournaments in the sports you listed.

Because they don't suit your agenda???

What if the roles were reversed, would you be as upset about it and show it???

Round robin tournaments are fine. It gives you a chance to recover from a single bad game whereas a fluke can topple you in single elimination. For something like the Olympics, it's better because we're sure that whoever wins Gold sure as heck earned it.

Eh? I wouldn't have been bothered at all if the US hockey team finished dead last in the Olympics, if that is what you are asking. My favorite sport of all is college basketball, and the feature event is a 64 team single elimination tournament. Win 6 in a row or go home, and it is fantastic.

I'm quite pleased with the way America has been performing. We're eventually going to get the medals in history, which is pretty decent considering we've never led in gold count or medal count in the Winter Olympics.

For all those cranks who want a points system based on total medals.

Here goes.

GOLD = 1000 points
SILVER = 10 points
BRONZE = 1 point

More than fair to all medalists, but to be fair to all athletes competing, here is another system.

GOLD = 1000 points
SILVER = 10 points
BRONZE = 9 points
4th = 8
5th = 7
6th = 6
7th = 5
8th = 4
9th = 3
10th = 2
Rest = 1

Have fun using them.

It's fantastic to some but many hate the one and done scenario.

I mean, it's arguable that the best team doesn't win the NCAA tournament because they could have one bad game and they are out.

Personally, I like it but I don't dislike this Olympic tournament setting.

Ohno said he thinks the judging was fixed to put two canadians on the podium in the 500m.

he mad

I hope you are joking that he said that.

Dude was lucky to get any medals this Olympics.

His silver wasn't his doing and he barely EARNED his bronze.

You mean the pathetic push by Hamelin made him get bronze???

No, he said it was a factor in the decision to DQ him that the judge was Canadian, and I fully agree. Hamelin pushed the Korean and there was no DQ for him. If they are going to take Ohno out of it, they need to do the same to their guy. It was definitely a biased decision. Arguing that it was a fair call is asinine.

Just heard it on tv now. Rod Black on sportsnet just said that's what he said.

Ohno isn't happy.

Watch it again. I was the first person in this thread to say Hamelin might get DQ'd, but you see the Korean grab Hamelin's skate first, and then Hamelin touches him (to steady himself? dunno.)

Any fan of the sport shouldn't be happy. It was a clear case of favoritism.

Edit:

Ohno is probably more pissed now that he's seen better replays. I would be too.

That's what I saw, Hamelin was just trying to stay balanced and prevent himself from tumbling due to the Korean skater's fall.

I don't know how I feel for Gold/Silver/Bronze argument. I like total medal count to be honest, but I understand that bronze in Speed Skating doesn't mean shit. On the other hand, if we ever won Bronze in Biathalon that'd be worth 3 golds to me.

I'm American but not a stupid blowhard nationalist.

I thought Ohno was the best skater of them all coming into these Olympics and some of his qualifying runs showed how skilled he is but when it counts the most, he's not the best.

"Most decorated Winter Game Olympian" my ass, Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden won several golds.

I'd rather be them.

Basketball was created by a Canadian...in the US. He died in the US, as a US citizen. Nevermind that, I only said it originated in the US. Never mentioned where the creator was born. Baseball is far trickier to pin to one person, but the game played today seems to have originated in New York or New Jersey.

Whatever his exact wording was; he believes the judging was biased in favor of Canada. That's all. So, like i said...he mad.

And I'm not a fan of the sport. It's a joke. It's entertaining as fuck but we've seen a bunch of unfair endings and dirty behaviour. Just glad for once Canada doesn't get the short end of the stick. I'll take it.

I at first thought Hamelin was going to get DQd too.
