Far as I know BAG has already done an interview confirming he'll be back.

It will be Brian Austin Greene again and the episode will indeed be titled "Upgrade". It's episode 18 and will feature an upgraded version of Metallo no less. Zod will most definitely get more threatening towards the end of the season and as for Doctor Fate, I wouldn't be surprised to see him return. Geoff Johns is already talking about doing more Smallville stuff next season.

Watched it earlier, thought it was great. Felt very much like a Watchmen ripoff, but that's pretty much the usual setup with Smallville it seems. Lot of their episodes are essentially plots ripped from movies.

I read that doing a Smallville version of Booster Gold was at the top of his list, though I'd love a JSA sequel.
