Yeah, I agree BlackSalad, the Utes would've marched up and down the field on the very overated Auburn team we saw tonight. I am completely convinced Utah would beat them. Although I think USC and Oklahoma are a step above even Utah (who I think is 3rd best behind those two). The two best teams are playing for the championship Tuesday. Unlike FMT though, I think it's going to be really close. OU and USC are dead even in my estimation and I think the winner will probably go to whoever plays better special teams. Could be USC since the OU kicker is so new (never kicked a field goal this year as he's a late addition) but OU is pretty amazing, so we'll see. Peterson is perhaps the best looking running back I've seen since Barry Sanders. Yes, he's that special.. but so is pretty much everyone playing tomorrow night. :lol

Can't wait to watch this baby!

P.S. Did anyone notice a little bit of bias from the old Auburn coach (Bowden) doing color for the game tonight? It was sly and it seemed he tried to conceal it, but I thought it was pretty obvious if you knew he was their former coach. Course I was really looking for it since I thought he might since he used to be there.

I thought Virginia Tech completely outplayed Auburn and if it wasn't for some really terrible luck (dropped easy wide open touchdown pass, missed incredibly short field goal, dropped open passes all night... a few of them for would be 1st downs) would have probably beaten Auburn easily.

To say that Auburn would deserve any part of the title would be a complete and total farce. They were basically beat by a #9 team tonight and only squeaked out a lucky win due to just amazing unfortunate events against VT. Top that off with some of the biggest puffcakes on their schedule, and any case is lost.
Terrible luck is a few missed plays, not as many as you described. If tonight was bad luck, pretty much every loss a team has can be blamed on that. VT just simply played below their level tonight, pathetic really. The offense was just terrible. They could get yardage, but no results until it was too late. As for Randall, he didn't seem too confident in the game (though I'm sure the dropped passes contributed alot to that). Auburn wasn't at their best either, but it proved enough to beat VT tonight.

Just wanted to share this exchange I had with a fellow UCLA alumnus co-worker of mine about tonight's game:

OK, I'm torn. Tonight is the USC-Oklahoma game for the "National Championship" according to some bank of computers, etc. I don't really care, but since there are only so many football games left in the year, I'm going to watch it.

The problem is, who do I root for? As a UCLA alumnus, I HATE USC. From a certain point of view, watching Pete Carroll cry at midfield while Matt Leinart wets himself would probably warm my increasingly cold heart. My two favorite college teams are supposed to be UCLA and whoever-is-playing-USC, right? But when I think about it, don't I also have an obligation to stick up for Pac-10 football? After Cal's loss, I've had to put up with a lot of yahoos throwing around words like "overrated" and "soft." Wouldn't a crushing win by USC shut up all of those biased East Coasters for good? Shouldn't Oklahoma be repaid in full for being a completely red state in the last election?

You're a fellow Bruin, and I figured you could set me straight. Please advise.

Yeah, then throw in the fact that OK wiped the floor with us last year, and it makes it pretty tough. But, the bottom line is never ever ever root for USC. I'm not sure I could think of one scenario when you should root for USC. Those lousy sons of bitches need to be beaten really really hard. Think about it, they have this perfectionism about them that, if broken, could really bruise their egos. This is good for us. If they start next season not thinking they are the best in the nation, then you have the Bruins with a coach finally approaching his groove with the program, not to mention the best QB recruit in the nation and one of the best WR recruits in SoCal, and we have a chance to beat them. USC losing this game is key. I used to think PAC10 pride is important too, but PAC10 had a pretty good year this year, plus a heisman winner to boot, so I'm pretty sure we're solidly on the map. @*&^ USC!!!!!!!
So, there you have it. Go....Sooners?

No split title for Auburn now, pretty weak win. OU is gonna blowout USC anyway, so it wouldn't have mattered.

they had no shot at a split title anwywah. the WRITERS had USC and OU 1 and 2. How would either of them winning, even if it was close, make people leapfrog Auburn over the winner?

We should place friendly bets and have the losers get humiliating tags or whatever price that has to be paid for losing the wager.

Or maybe whoever guess's closest to the actual score gets to make the tag for whoever guesses the fartherest away from being correct.

Truely a good chance to do some 'rubbing it in' ;P

Not only that but the computers had OU 1 and USC 2 and Auburn 3. So not only the coaches, not only the media, but the computers... ALL of them had OU and USC 1 and 2.

This is the National Championship period.

P.S. I remember that UCLA game, you guys really played well I thought, but Perkins' returns just killed your chances. Why on earth was your coach still kicking to us? :lol Perkins was kicking your asses on his own.

Jesus christ, what an idiot. #1 for OU has just won the dumbass of the game award.

*EDIT* I think I'm going to puke

Good play if he thought it was touched by a USC player...but given his reaction on the sideline (or the lack thereof), I think he just made a dumb, dumb decision.

And now an interception? Uh oh...

I'm sorry, but this game is a complete lack of concentration strictly on OU's back, I've yet to see anything besides that awesome catch from Leinhart that went for a TD from USC that showed they are actually taking control, OU's basicly giving it to them at this point.

FUCK!!!!!!!

:lol :lol :lol :lol @ all the "USC IS SO FUCKING OVERRATED!!!1" hicks.

I knew these were both good teams, that's why I shut my trap and let them play.

+1 restraint.

I am so glad we have this BCS system, using those wonderful flawless polls, because otherwise we couldn't be sure these are the two best teams. And it's a good thing, too. Because if Oklahoma is this shitty against USC, I'd hate to see Utah or Auburn. Because, you know, it's impossible that people were wrong in assuming that Oklahoma is the second best team just because they were supposed to be the second best team.

i actually thought auburn deserved to be here instead of OK but meh, i'm not a big college football fan. i just root for the hometeam :D

p.s. but i do KNOW about college football, just dont have a designated team. ucla, usc, cal, stanford, take your pick!

I'm just loving it for all the shit USC got. I couldn't turn on the radio in the past two weeks without hearing some crap about how "overrated" USC is and how they don't stand a chance against Oklahoma. Thinking about that makes this so enjoyable as basically anything less than a 21-point Oklahoma win would make those people seem like fools.

So here's a question.

How has Oklahoma managed to become the most overrated team in the universe two years running?

Take all bets now, who will OK screw out of a national title chance next season? Last year they fucked over LSU and USC from being undisputed champs, this year Auburn and Utah. Who will be the unlucky two in 05?

lol! jason white... a true champion

Yea, I do admit J.White falls apart against good defense.
He looked like a total joke last year against K.State, and even moreso in the Sugar bowl against LSU.

He's just surreounded by really good p[layers, although it looks like they failed to show tonight. haha

Props to USC for taking full advantage of OU's mental mistakes and blown coverages so far.

I think you mean USC>*, Cal was owned bigtime.

*EDIT* J.White is so shaken and nervous now it's obvious, he can hardly complete short passes without almost overthrowing it.

Well there is something to be said for winning the only bowl game that matters until there's a playoff if they wind up doing that.

yea no doubt, there does seem to be a definate need for at least a 1 or 2 game playoff.

Last year it would have been nice for LSU & USC to play after their respective wins.
LSU was on fire and unbelievable defensively, yet stunk this year, and last year USC was good but not as great as they've played this year.

I think both teams last year were very likeable, and in a strange kinda way it's nice they both were considered winners not losing the big game.

Yup, that would have been an awesome game, though I can't say there's really one standout "left out" team since Auburn didn't really perform mind-bogglingly great in their game, but it doesn't even matter since anyone in their right mind would favor a playoff regardless.

well you can say USC has taken advantage of blown coverages and turnovers, but what about them stuffing peterson like a thanksgiving turkey?

and another TD! what a catch by steve smith!

p.s. sooners D is getting raped. USC is doing whatever they want whenever they want. 5-wide play to start? sure. handoff to your tightend? yep. throw a bomb into double coverage? why not, it's not like we're playing a good D! :D

damn. tough losing this way. props goes out to USC dominating us though. you definately deserved your #1, apologies to all for our performance. i feel so bad for J. White and his friend there that couldn't make the game. brought a tear to my eye. probably won't live through the week.

p.s. some of you USC fans are really being asses. you are obviously better... don't know why you think it's necessary to behave like this. oh well.

still love my sooners.

Oh... I'm not sure all of these people are USC fans. You sure did trash Auburn calling them overrated...

Given the performance on the field... dare I bring up the 'I' word?

Still... anything can happen.
