The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

No need for the energy rifles with hunting rifles, especially Ol' Painless and Lincoln's Repeater. They and the shotguns and assault rifles all fall under commando and small arms, so not much need to diversify.

Hmm, I never used Hunting rifles past the first hour of the game. Shots never went where I wanted them to go while my laser pistol did.

Haven't touched a hunting rifle again, took laser rifle and never looked back, pretty sure is does a lot more damage and fires like twice as fast. More ammo per clip/mag/battery too.

Hunting Rifles are easier to find and they repair one of the game's best weapons. Plus they dont force you to split your skill concentration.

I heard this game is a little glitchy. I just got my copy from Amazon today (along with 3 other games) so I was wondering if I should wait to start it when a patch comes out.

I've managed to get to Arefu, clear out the entire school (disappointed I can't get to that Vault door), I've been to the Minefield, did a few quests and.. I still don't feel like I've done anything. Which is ridiculous. Loving this.

I'm level 5 now iirc, and I've taught myself Educated and Intensive Training which are pretty damn useful.

Plus, I am currently out of ammo for all my weapons. So I can't continue the main game OR do any quests right now due to ammo and weapon condition issues.

Look at the map. It's vault 101.

There's basically no interaction at all with your followers, no special dialogue, no nothing.

You're going for achievements? What I did was just save before I leveled up, then I went to Megaton and used Moriarity's terminal over and over to lower my karma (no one gets angry at you for using it). This way I got all 1000/1000 on my first playthrough.

LOL, if its for pc just play it, bethesda will not fix half the shit wrong with it (see the oblivion FAN PATCHES, with over 1000 (yes thousand) fixes, all created by fans).

Outside of one quest which ended up with me losing the chance to get a stat point and nice item (grr), I haven't had a single issue with the game. That's fine IMO for nearly hours of play (so far).

Haha, I got a Rad-X upon leaving my house.

I played up to Rivet City yesterday. It's a pretty amazing sight to see. This
Android sidequest seems very interesting and Blade Runner-y
, might look into that before doing more main quest. On that subject, does anyone know where Doctor Pinkerton is? He seems to know more about it, but I can't find him in the ship.

Can't stop gushing over this game, there's so much cool stuff to do. I actually have to force myself to move along with the storyline, the sidequests are just as fun.

I love the little touches too, like the sound that plays when you get a new quest and the text that pops up... It feels like they really thought about every mission. Not just stupid 'get this for me and then come back' stuff, but all seperate stories.

So I finally went in and beat this game recently. I actually really liked the ending.

I ended with around 40 hours I believe. What seems to be the average finish time around here?

Blown up Megaton yet? That'll yank you all the way down the karma chain

I got to a point where I felt finished at about 46 hours. There's probably plenty more that I could have done, but I did all of the main side quests and replaying it didn't feel like it had the same charm.

I'm starting to really like the game. I didn't even do the first real main quest yet. Just wandering around doing all the mini quests. Combat is real challenging yet satisfying. I really like using the VATS.

He not in the Rivet City Side of the ship, a big piece of the ship had broked up. So go outside of Rivet City and go West, there is a brige to the other piece of the ship. If you cant unlock the door, there is a underwater door on the left side.

He's in
the broken bow section, you have to leave the ship and go to the broken-off half a short distance away. You can break in but the lock is Very Hard, so the easiest way is to swim down into the water and look for an entrance.

I finished in 60 hours doing all the sidequests and with 1000/1000 gamerscore. I used a guide for the last 10 hours or so though to find all the bobbleheads, supermutants and quests I had missed.

VATS is awesome. I played that game for 40 hours and never once got tired of seeing blood splatter and limbs chunk off in slow-mo.

I beat the game my first time through at around 35 hours (level 20). I'm around 30 hours my second time through (level 17). I seem to level faster then most people do.

So I just started and I decided to just sneak past the Overseer instead of helping whats her face. Vault door opens, guards decide to give up the chase when I walk through. I kill all the guards with head shots and then I go back inside and beat the Overseer down with a bat. This game is awesome.

I was following wolfgang and he got himself killed one of those werewolf things. He basically saved my life but now I can't buy weapons anymore from him. :(

Started the game yesterday, didn't even want to buy it this year anymore, but games offer made me do it, and I am really glad. The game is sucking me in completely just like Mass Effect did a year ago.

Fallout 3 vs. Reality: Photo Comparison

Btw, with 65 hours of game, I just finished the main quest! :-D Although there are plenty of main quests yet to do, so I have a save game before the final scene, and I can finish the other quests now.
There are still 60% of the wasteland yet to be explored, with plenty of side quests, unexplored buildings, etc. Which I find a bit of a waste, since the main quest could have been much bigger than it is, based on how much content there is on this game. But I guess Bethesda didn't want their game to be too big for the "average" gamer, but they still left a lot of space yet to be explored for the "hardcore" gamers, which is from a certain point of view, a wise decision. :)

I played the PC version, and I didn't had a single problem or bug during my playthrough of this game! (Apart from 3 crash to desktops [yes, I did count them], which is pretty much acceptable given the O.S. we all use :-D )
This game is worth every single penny I've paid for it, and not only that it has the best Collectors Edition I ever bought!

It does have It's problems, like a couple of stupid NPC's and some strange voice acting here and there. And you can tell there's some blurry textures in some places too, but I guess that's the price to pay to have a multiplatform game as well.

So yeah, all in all, this is one of the best game's I've played so far, that will stay on my memory from years to come! :)

Here's some screenshots I've taken, Lot's of spoilers so watch out.

so I've been playing on a friends pc copy for a decent amount of time (30ish hours) mostly just being evil and messing around. Im getting it for 360 for xmas so I've been shying away from the story til then and just exploring. I just found oasis and am about to do the quest there.

Game is wonderful.

I should have done more main quest, but I've been wandering the wastes and there's a lot to do out there. So when I finally went to GNR Radio, the Super Mutants in DC proper were pretty lulsy. I charged at them with my Shiskebab. I think my DR is about 40 now thanks to combat armor, combat helm, toughness, and barkskin. I think you're probably meant to do this pretty early and hide behind Lyons and crew.

Incidentally, Barkskin is only +5 DR, which is lame. Strategy guide / FAQs said +10 DR and +1 Endurance. :(

The thing right before the radio station is where I had to save and quit last. Can't wait to tackle that.

I also hope I can convince Dogmeat to stay the fuck away. :lol Dogmeat's proven pretty tough so far, but deathclaws nearly owned him, as well deathclaws should, and I'm afraid that thing will hit harder than a deathclaw. At the very least, it has a lot more armor and / or HP.

I'm also quite concerned at the obscene rate I'm levelling up. If this doesn't slow down I'll be at the level cap for much of my exploration. I intend to do everything.

(I'm also a bit concerned about something I forgot to do / didn't do / shouldn't have done - I got Dave voted out from his Republic, and he had some key that didn't do anything, and then Dukov also has a key that doesn't do anything, so I'm thinking they're really important. I also found a door in a National Guard Depot that I simply must open and yet, only 2 of the 5 codes.

Massive timesink, difficult, good curve of difficulty, good scripted events... only complaints are some buggy areas. Oasis in particular was fucked up.

you need their keys and
keys from tenpenny and strahl to get some power armor at one of the forts i cant remember

All right. Someone please explain this to me.

I'll put it in spoiler text so as not to ruin anything.

So I'm at the end of the game. And I'm wondering why I have to die entering a three-button code in a RADIATION chamber when Fawkes is right beside me.

Is this a special kind of radiation? Because I seem to recall not so long ago that Fawkes recovered a GEK for me. You know, in a RADIATION chamber.

Unbelievable.

Basically the main quest is just wretchedly written, which makes me suspect (along with the game-crashing, console-locking bugs), that the game was rushed to make the Xmas 08 season. I just can't buy that Bethesda started out with such a fantastically stupid ending for their main quest. In a just world, the game would come with a sticker telling you not to finish the main quest. (Note: I enjoyed the game play and many other quests, not to mention the world/design/art. But dear god, the writing on the main quest is perhaps some of the worst I've ever seen in a video game.)

Damn. Trouble is, Dave left. Was I supposed to follow him? He told me basically where he was going. Deathclaw central - some Old Town or Oldey Town or whatever. If he's there, he's probably dead. Gonna be a bitch to find him. I assume he doesn't disappear. I sure hope he doesn't.

In the Museum of History trying to get the relay for Three Dog. Just had an awesome moment where I lured a Super Mutant to one of my frag mines, he cripples his leg and falls over while I target him in VATS and blow his head off before he hits the dirt. :lol

I'm pretty sure if you havent cleared old olney of death claws he'll be dead but you can probably find him/search his body. I just killed him when I went to the republic of dave since.. thats pretty much all I've been doing this first play through :D

When/if you go to old olney make sure to explore the sewers. Found the
medic power armor
down there

When I went there I used a flamer and gave Jericho the vengeance gatling gun to clear them all out.

I've had too much fun with this game and all I've done is dick around. I think I'm still on the scientific pursuits main quest

I recently got the perk where you can eat people. Being evil is too much fun.

I beat "Those!" on level 2-3, just hit them with a hand to hand weapon and keep circling them. Draw them to you around a corner and begin the attacks :)

Finished Tenpenny Tower a while ago and had the ghouls move in. Noticed the bigoted people were hanging around the doorstep of Megaton, haha suckers.

I'm working on the Wasteland Survival Guide for Moira, I wanna finish it up soon.

I finished Blood Ties, which I loved.

I'm seriously lacking ammo now so I should concentating on restocking and getting more caps before I continue the story.

I also had an ammo problem for a while, the harder the enemies and more frequently you fight them the better your ammo situation becomes

I'm at lvl 13 and I recently finished Those!, I had my combat shotgun and a shit load of ammo for it and the ants became pretty easy

I got to Vault
112
(right?) and opened the
forbidden mainframe
and then saved it and went to work. This is without having done most of the main quest (I got to GNR, but didn't
fix the radio station
.) Then my friend came over and we made a new file.

I accidentally deleted mine.

:(

I got this game yesterday and I'm really excited to get started with it, I've never played Fallout but I loved Oblivion. However, I refuse to put it in my PS3 until my new HDTV arrives Tuesday. Are there any essential tips/hints that would be good to know starting out?

For instance, in Oblivion I'd have liked to have known that the default classes were pretty worthless and how to take advantage of the broken leveling system before I ran out of the sewers for the first time. Doing the Mage's Guild early for enchantment would have been nice too. Stuff like that.

Intelligence is paramount over all other attributes in S.P.E.C.I.A.L and be sure to grab the Educated perk whenever it becomes available.

Energy weapons are complete bullshit in this game. I am level 19, and I've been to probably over 60 different places, and I still can't find anything better than the laser pistol and rifle.

There are at least 20 "small arms" guns but 2 energy weapons? WTF. And no custom laser weapons!

Go
North
, young man, go
North
. Somewhere near
a factory with three tall chimneys, IIRC, Center-North on the map
. Most powerful weapon in the game. Make sure your radio is on.

When you're in Vault 101 when you're either 16 or escaping when you're 19, look on
your dad's desk. He's got the Medicine Bobblehead, which will add 10 points to your Medicine skill.

If you're going all out with skill books you won't need that much starting Int. You'll also get a lot of lousy options for starting perks; +19 skill points over your character's career vs. 10 skill points in specific places right now... well, I know what I'd choose.

OTOH, if you're just going to bump Int with Perks, you're better off sinking the points into Int earlier and getting more skill points that way. And then you can feel good about 3 points to boost your Strength or Agility or Endurance or whatever. But man, those skill boosting perks are a waste. Then again, if you want more character power earlier, maybe...

Also, for tags, I think one combat style, lockpick / science, and repair would be best. Look at the longterm perks you want and build your skills and SPECIAL up via skill points and perks. Repair is damn useful; the better your gear holds up, the more damage you're doing and resisting and selling loot for and the better custom stuff you're building with scarce materials.

Follow the main quest until after

Also, why fight the queen? "I hate stat points and resistance to damage types!"
