The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

is this out today?

i'm out of town on vacation right now, but between this and dead space, i can't wait to get back to the 360 and my humdrum routine :lol

A question for the PC users, if you can run Oblivion at 1080p with all settings maxed (AAx2) will you be able to run Fallout 3 at that resolution (HDTV) at highest settings without AA?

Is Fallout 3 the same graphics engine as Oblivion or a new engine?

No, next Tuesday.

So this is just Oblivion with guns?

From beginning to end, yeah. There's even a Wood Elf who smack-talks you from the other side of your crib bars when you're a baby at the start.

"Oh look, a Vault Dweller in the Imper... Vault."

There's some crazy Daedra-summoning shit going on in Megaton too.

Same engine. Without all the vegetation I imagine it might even run better.

How is the dialogue? Is it the same as Oblivion where 5 or 6 townmembers will say the exact same thing? Is it just you selecting a topic and the NPC responding or are there actually different conversation branches in which you can reply to them?

The thing about nuclear disasters is that there are very few survivors. I'm pretty certain that you aren't going to be seeing groups of people anywhere, which probably gave the writers a little bit more room for unique dialogue for the smaller amount of NPCs.

Yeah, I was really disappointed when I found out they just reuse most of the same quests, too. Oh well. Fallout 3 has a dog, though.

Fallout 3. Serious business.

:D

I think I'm taking a GAF break for a few weeks after today. Fable II and Fallout 3 are going to be way more fun than watching this thread turn into a trainwreck. :lol

OK good news. Now that I think about it, I mean the game looks great but why are they using the engine from 2006?

Are you sure you know what an engine is ?

Are you aware how long the Unreal Engine 2 was used. How long UE3 will be used ?

Another game with a quandry. PC, 360 or PS3. My PC is decently up to specs with a 6600 core 2 duo processor, 2 gigs of DDR2, but only a 7900GT. I don't think I want to upgrade the GPU quite yet, but would prefer to play it on the PC for the mouse if it plays at decently high settings.

can't wait to punch some fool with my steam-powered robo arm. i knew this game was destined for greatness when i saw that clip. that, and the little "choo-choo" sound the railspike gun makes. so fucking great.

okay i'm sold

I hated Oblivion with a passion but I will give this a rent, since I love the atmosphere and the story looks good.

The gun gameplay looks a bit funner than Oblivion's hack/slash gameplay, so you never know.

Yeah love the weapons.

I just can't understand the Oblivion hate and by extension the Fallout 3 hate. I played Oblivion for over 200 hours and I haven't even beaten the main quest yet. I did beat the Shivering Iles which was great fun too, and beyond the level scaling and not delivering on the AI promises I can't see much to hate with the game.

seriously, I've replayed Fallout 1 and 2 so many times, I never thought I'd see a third. Then combine that with the fact that I played Oblivion for the first time in August and have sunk well over 100 hours into it, I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS. IT'S LIKE RAPTOR JESUS AND HARD ROCK JESUS HAD A BABY AND NAMED IT FUCKAWESOME.

The engine already exists, so it saves time and money to just modify it. That plus they already know what they're doing with it.

I would expect Fallout 3 runs slightly worse on the same PC specs than Oblivion, since they improved the textures and character models, but it should be similar.

Ya, Oblivion was great. It didn't quite live up to expectations, and was a pretty dramatic "mainstreaming" since their last game Morrowind, but it was still a great game.

Can't wait. :D It's crazy this game is coming out only a week after Fable II, and Gears 2 a week after this. :lol Such gaming goodness.

So is this game street dated for next Tuesday?

Then you shouldn't read the new Golden Axe thread oh wait since it's a SEGA game it's okay to bash.

Is fallout 3 out like golden axe?

Is everybody from this thread in that other one bashing it?

The GTFO with your shit. You have no other intentions that to tell everybody how bad this game is and how bethesda is a bad developer. You already did, there you have the vault door. Bye.

Are there any impressions for the PC version of this? Is it just the usual playable at higher resolutions + more AA, or will graphics be better in other ways?

The same reason any engine is used for a generation as it always have been. They aren't static, they get refined, better optimizations, improved upon with future graphical support/techniques and take into account newer hardware standards, so on and so forth. Trying to reinvent the wheel isn't always the most productive way of doings things. You technically reinvent the wheel and then improve the hell out of it making good use of the engine. Depending on the devs, some might push a use of a previous engine longer than others in regards to their time and resources.

Did you know the engine that pushed the hell out of the PS2 with the God of War games, started life as the engine that powered the racer Kinetica? You can bet the farm that the engine powering the sequel to Uncharted in like 2009 or something would be based on the original Uncharted engine from 2007.

so I completed the long... very long intro. It was better than the Oblivion intro for all those comparing it to Oblivion for whatever reason they may have.

As soon as I stepped foot out of the fallout shelter, the game became a little intimidating with how much landscape there is to see.

While in the fallout shelter, I picked up everything i could find so I can sell it once I got out, so I'm looking for someone to barter with in capital wasteland at the moment.
