Interesting, thanks.

yeah it may be better than FO 1 and 2 but those are kinda different from a FPSer

so the human AI is basically Oblivion's archers?

Mr. Spinnington said:
well with melee weapons or explosives you simply target the whole enemy, but long-range weapons allow you to target any limb, the torso, head, and whatever weapon they're carrying. it's cool until you collect a damaged weapon that needs to be repaired, so i've found myself actually running away in order to save a good weapon

What about the actual percentages to hit? Is it reasonable to use early on or will most shots miss?

Also what about grenade percentages? Similar to firearms?

I wonder how the PC and 360 version compare....

Mr. Spinnington said:
you know i'm playing it on ps3, but what system are you on?

so far i've seen some slowdown, pop-in, and it even froze on me once (except for the music). everything is normally smooth, though; smooth enough to overlook these issues for the most part

and how many hours in are you?

360 here; 3 hrs in. Slowdown when starting out in a new area usually. No freezes yet. Enemy AI is probably the only issue I have so far...

Grimm Fandango said:

it all depends on how close you are and if anything's blocking your shot. it's not that deep, just depends on the range of the weapon. for instance, any grenade tossed within 10 ft is about a 95% hit ratio, but i still nailed a raider halfway across a super-duper mart showing only 15%. if something is too far away it'll show up but you'll just have 0%

another interesting thing is that there was no install on the ps3 whatsoever, which was really nice

To the people complaining about AI, remember you are only fighting stupid creatures and raiders early on. The AI for the Enclave, Deathclaws ETC is much better.

Harhar

My brother was so furious when GT:P went into installation hell, he'll be pleased to hear this, I think

aahhhrrrrrr!!!!! Fable 2 or Fallout 3?!!?? This is killing me. Want both but don't have enough time/money for both.
Want both but WoW owns my gaming time =(. Need to get some stuff done before Wrath.

I think I'll have to make room for FO3. Fable can wait.

Even though I own a PS3, this is the game that made me give in a buy a 360 Wireless Controller in anticipation of the Windows version of this game. Then I can hook up my PC to my 56" HDTV and sit back on my couch and relax while playing and get full surround sound too. Hopefully they kept whatever rumble support is in the 360 version intact in the Windows version.

Seeing as it's a Windows Live game apparently this one not only has 360 Controller support (wired and wireless) but achievements as well. Nice.

seriously, I've replayed Fallout 1 and 2 so many times, I never thought I'd see a third. Then combine that with the fact that I played Oblivion for the first time in August and have sunk well over 100 hours into it, I CANNOT FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS. IT'S LIKE RAPTOR JESUS AND HARD ROCK JESUS HAD A BABY AND NAMED IT FUCKAWESOME.
seconded!

back of the case says req'd 5000MB but i haven't seen any record of that on my console yet

Perhaps they're using the same system they used in Oblivion (since it's the same engine anyway), which was installing the game cache as you actually played it.
Completely transperant process that dumped 4+gigs of data on your PS3 HDD, but you never knew it until you looked!

Awesome this was and it's a shame more game engines or developers couldn't implement it...

Mr Spliff said:
What are some of the AI issues that peeps are talking about?
That the AI is stupid. It is stupid early in the game. Raiders are stupid. As are radroaches and the various other animals wandering the wastes. Enclave, Super Mutants and other creatures later in the game are much smarter.

I just want to know one thing: does it have that free-roaming aspect of Oblivion where you could just stroll into an abandoned house/building, explore it as much as you want, find random shit to keep, etc.? Like if I just wanted to chill in a mall, or walk down the street and find a broken down bus that I could go inside and explore?

I never played oblivion but I am interested to know this too.

Yep, exactly like that. Of course a lot of the buildings are totally decimated and a some have obviously already been raided but there is plenty of exploring to do as you have described.

Surprising, since Oblivion PS3 has a 4.5GB install. Good to know though. More developers should be using the PS3 hdd as a cache instead of a crutch for a full game install.

but it was installed in the background ...you could play right away

Yeah I know I had oblivion on PS3. I'm just glad to hear Fallout 3 PS3 has zero install. Too many PS3 games have an install when they shouldn't.

That's called caching. That's the way the 360 handles things if you have a HDD attached (for games that use it anyway). IMO it's a far better idea than installations.

Sounds awesome. I loved all the exploring in the STALKER series, so this should be just my cup of tea. With a bit more sugar, of course. :lol

Wait, so how do I get Achievements for playing Fallout 3 PC? I don't have to install any GFW Live crap do I?

I hope I can finish Farcry 2 fast enough to start Fallout 3 when it's out next... Tuesday? Wednesday?

Day One. Cannot fucking wait to roam the wastes. Watching Boy and His Dog and Road Warrior the night before.

Oh, great idea! I've never seen 'A Boy and His Dog' so I'll need to watch that one.

Anyone know of any other good post-apocalyptic movies? I need to prepare for the fallout.

Should go pickup Fallout 3 and GoW2 now. Trying to not jump the gun.

Does anyone know where the fallout 3 online reviews are?

PC Gamer France, 93% - Good variety of quests, lots of replayability
PC Gamer Sweden, 81% - VATS is nice, but there is too much content in a game world that is too small, NPCs feel lifeless
GMC Italy, 9/10 - Good atmosphere and turn-based combat, lackluster AI and mini-games
OXM 10/11 - "Between its engrossing story, ginormous world, well-crafted RPG side and white-knuckle FPS combat, Fallout 3 completely, utterly gives you your $60 worth."
Click! 8.75/10 - * Gameplay - 9.25 (Playability: 9.5, Longevity: 9.5, Variety: 9, AI: 9); * Graphics - 8.25 (Appearance: 8.5, Animations: 8 ); * Sound - 9.5 (Music: 9.5, Effects: 9.5); * Technical quality - 7.38 (Fluency: 7, Loading times: 8.5)
PC Gamer UK, 90% - Excellent dialogue, combat, depth and minigames, but MQ is shortish and it's easy to miss things if you're not paying attention
PC Action Germany, 90% - scores apparently start out at 100, and then points are deducted. -4% handling of the pipboy could be easier, -2% boring dungeon crawling, -1% dreary environment, -1% character moving too slow, -1% inventory has console like feel to it.
PCPowerPlay Australia gave it 9/10: Pros - Brilliant art direction; So much content!; Three Dog, yeah! Cons - Odd character physics; No timed autosave; Map isn't too clear.

Great stuff. Most of the bolded points are the reasons I want the game.

The only one that confused me was the PC Gamer Sweden review which claims the world is "too small" when nearly every other source claims it's absolutely huge.

Oh well, at least they say that there is plenty of content in the game which is something I was worried about. I'd much rather have plenty of things to do and find in a small world than have barely anything going on in a huge world.

A boy and his dog.
The Last man on earth (I thik this one is available free)
The omega man
Mad Max

:D

It will be cool if there was a perk to comunicate with your dog, talk with him, get hints from him, etc..

Maybe there is :D

Yes, it doesn't make sense. Even a guy in this thread said that he wandered about 1 hour in the wasteland without finding anything.

I'm starting to think either the guy never played the game at all or the article was badly mistranslated. Practically nothing he said about the game world was true. Things aren't close together, they are bloody far apart, sometimes to excess. There are times when you will be walking for 15 mins just to get to a new quest location. And I've certainly not come across any locations where there is a Deathclaw nest right next to a raider camp right next to a settlement.

Maybe he was fast travelling, but didn't realize it :lol

So there's heaps of additional content? What sort of content? Is there the Oblivion equivalent of hundreds of dungeons and hell gates scattered all around the world?

Didn't see your post.

I posted this on another thread after seeing a stream of the game.

mini small spoilers
The guy was doing a mission, on a metro station and randomly he found a tape on a body saying some directions on how to get a key hidden in the station and that key opened a crate with a packet inside it that had to be delivered to a guy.
This wasn't a quest but more like a sidequest with no ther indication of anything but the hints on the tape.

He also raided the nuka-cola factory and found the formula of the nuka-cola and a note to bring it to one guy. Same as the other, totally side quest with no other help that the hints, and the guy was just getting some ammo and food from the factory

So yes, you can explore a lot and find a lot of shit out there not tied to a quest but to a mini-quest.

This game cannot come soon enough D:

Also, i'll ask again, does amazon has the CE exclusivity or something? I want the pipboy clock but it's only available on amazon uk, not in stores D:

I'd believe that if it weren't for the fact you can't fast travel anywhere in the beginning of the game. I got sidetracked on my way to the first location that is revealed to you and spent an hour wandering around before I even got there.

At least Bethesda fixed that. It made no sense that in Oblivion, straight out of jail, you could fast travel to a dozen different locales. It heavily discouraged exploration of the routes between towns, which were littered with interesting side quests and such.

You can't even fast travel from inside most of the towns. It seems the condition is you must have open sky above you for it to work, so you generally have to leave city limits to do so.

The CE is available everywhere that sells Fallout 3. The Survival Edition is exclusive to Amazon. I would be weary about buying it though because Bethesda hasn't really said much about the details of the Pip-Boy 300 replica which leads me to believe that it's cheaply made.

What we know is:

- Battery Powered.
- Does fit around wrist, but they strongly advise that you never do it.
- It's a digital clock. They have not confirmed an alarm, sound effects, music, or radio.

If I were proud of an item and really wanted to sell it to customers, I'd be sure to explain the damn thing in detail. Especially at a 50$ price increase.

Maybe....

Slightly better than the cat helmet I guess. I'm still disappointed that the cat helmet wasn't a human sized helmet with a built in headset, displaying the Halo 3 in-game HUD through your visor instead of your screen, when sync'd to the console.

I think that is the best decision. The only thing you'll miss out on is the Pip-Boy, and that may be a very good thing if it ends up being a piece of crap.

Here's to hoping that it's a nice little extra though! I wont be buying it, but I can't wait for some impressions on it.

:lol

Bethesda actually did want to make the Pip-Boy replica actually work in the game somehow, but they ran into too many problems and it became too much of a hassle to balance between the PS3, 360, and PC.

That would have been totally awesome. I will have pay 100$ more for that.
