The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Sooo... I am playing a good guy (Paladin archetype in Oblivion) and he is pissing me off, how do I kill
Moriarty
while still being a good guy?

Sleep in a bed. You can get a safehouse with a bed in it
by defusing the Megaton bomb and maybe even setting it off-- not sure
or find an unowned bed in some particular cities/holes in the ground.

cool, thanks. I'm guess I'm still used to Oblivion where beds are just used to level up.

About Tenpenny (not sure if this would be a spoiler or not)

Anybody else murder Tenpenny and take his sniper rifle? That thing kicks ass. And Mr. Burke had a silenced pistol on him. I'm walking around in Tenpenny's suit and I feel all sorts of rad

How the hell do I get through the minefield without getting blown to bits?
Disarm the mines. Crouch and move through slowly. Once you are in range click on the mine to disarm it. Click again to pick it up.

duck and double tap action button when it starts to beep. First tap defuses, second picks it up.

Question, when can you wear the power suit?

To owners of the steam version (or any pc users if there's no difference) : Is GFW live required to play the game regularly and be able to save? I'm kinda interested right now but I want to know if I have to deal with that crap before I decide to throw down $50.

Click on your side of inventory.

The sniper rifle was the second weapon I got after the pistol :lol

Fried my 6 shots away and didn't use it again for 4 hours. I have another 4 shots now.

I also picked up the flamer, but didn't save. Wow that thing is crazy.

Also what the hell is up with fire ants
WHY WOULD THEY ACTUALLY BREATHE FIRE ON YOU
>:(

Only required if you want achievements and all the other gfw benefits. Saves don't require signing up for a free live account.

Didnt I hear a while back that the first 2 fallouts are free to download somewhere?

Visit Good Old Games www.gog.com. These guys are awesome and they offer cheap downloadable PC classics which are reworked with Voodoo magic to work on XP and Vista systems, including Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics.

Sign up and support them!!

Thanks. Sounds good, I remember hearing some games required it to save, so I'm glad I don't have to bother with it.

I have the feeling that I skipped over a lot of the main story.
the current main story mission was to pay this guy 100 caps to tell me info about my father; I decided to do side mission; randomly ended up at the Jefferson Memorial and suddenly I pick up tape of Pa Liam talking and a new quests should up about some other vault...dang

How far along the main quest were you before that?

I'm wondering what the DRM is on Fallout 3 exactly.

I'm playing it on my PC but want to install it on my laptop as well. Most games give you multiple installs so this isn't a problem, Fallout 3 the same way? Also, if I do that will I be able to download my saved games via my Live Gamer Profile (doubtful I assume) or just have to copy them manually back and forth?

Yeah you missed a bit. You've still got to
find/rescue Dad though so head to GNR and talk to Three Dog about it

Linkzg said:
the first main objective when you get to megaton. It's the one where you have to talk that guy in the bar.

hmmm, you skipped about 2 steps. Im pretty sure you can still do the other quests (if you want to) but from a story standpoint you're only missing a little.

If you want to continue on the real path:
Go to three dogs hideout where he broadcasts GNR. Your quest book should show you but if not youll need to go to the north east and enter a subway tunnel to get to three dogs hideout. Once you talk to him he should put you back on the right path.

Ok, thanks. It's not on my map, but do you know the closest location to it?

Is there anyway to turn off Mouse Smoothing?

It's seems to be defaulted on and it's pretty annoying. I never play any titles with it on (cept HL2) and really wish I could turn it off...

Also debating whether or not to play this with the 360 controller

bought it today on the ps3. reminds me of an old school pc game. janky animations and bug ridden. but deep with a mind boggling number of gameplay options open to me.

Can anyone tell me if there is a flashlight in this game please? I could have sworn someone said something about the Pipboy having a flashlight but I sure as hell haven't been able to find it and now I can't see shit :/

hold the PiPBoy key (or button)

that's the problem, I never paid him. I went to him again and he wouldn't let me pay him anymore.

I never paid him either. Didn't even mention
the junkie woman nearby whom I was supposed to cover for

Mmmm...Try getting into his PC, see if that reveals the location. I'd tell you exactly where it is but I can't really get to my console right now.

Oh so it does. Can't say it's the most powerful light though.

Game seems dark by default I think because even during the day the shadows of Megaton tend to hide well...everything. Far Cry 2 does this aswell, yet other games are fine.

ok, should be no problem.
Go through the back door of his bar, either pick the lock from outside or walk into the back room from the inside. Once there look inside the dresser near the computer, it'll have a password. Dont worry about remembering it just click on the computer and click on "visitors" then click your dads name. Shoult give you all the info you need, thats actualy how i did it in the first place.

thanks again. I'll try it out.

Trying to figure this out too. Car blew up and landed on me and crushed me to bits.
There is actually a guy up in a faraway building firing something at the cars. I thought it was mines too at first.

I got lucky with him tho, went hidden and got close enough to open up VATS - then pulled off an incredibly lucky headshot. With the sneak attack bonus, it one shotted him dead, he was no more problem.

when I played, I was out in the wasteland by the Super-Duper-Mart, I did a few hours rest until it was light out and the second the game came back from the rest screen the kid spoke to me and I almost shat my pants in pure shock.
It's a good thing the game doesn't allow you to attack kids. I fast-traveled to the super duper mart, and he starts running at me really fast from far away. I initally thought he was a raider and kept trying to pull up VATS so I could kill him before I realized he was a kid.

How do you sell things to NPCs on the PC?

Pick the dialog of "What do you have to sell?" or something like that. Then, it'll show your list of items, and the NPC's list of items, and how much money you both have. If you click an item in your list, it'll move it to his list and show you how much money will be exchanged with an arrow in the middle pointing to the person who will get money.

Grrr, fucking hell.

Just played for a half hour, did a bunch of selling and buying in Megaton...

Walk into the women's restroom and BOOM. Black screen with music still playing.

Had to end the process by alt-tabbing to my desktop.

Argh, did not quicksave.

I installed the ATI hotfix for FC2 and Clear Sky tonight, btw.

Fucking annoying.

It autosaves going through doors, and sleeping, if you have that set.

I was just doing some random wandering across the overworld tonight, and I came across an old wrecked church. Naturally, I diverted course to explore.

When I get close to the church,
suddenly a citizen rounds the corner from behind the building, COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I lol'd and was like "WTF" but then like 4 seconds later a raider came around the corner after him, wielding a flamer :lol :lol

Radiant AI, or scripted event? Either way, it was awesome. The church wasn't even important enough to get a mapmarker, so it's neat to see all these little details.

EDIT: Oh yeah I remember another totally awesome moment, too. I entered a random grocery store. It was empty, but there were arrows painted on the floor and the walls. Following them, I came across a pressure plate on the floor. Activating it set off this crazy rube goldberg-esque scene: There were like ~40 boxes of food lines up, and they all fell over 1 by 1, like dominos. The final one landed on ANOTHER pressure plate, which turned on a concealed automated pitching machine. The machine started hurling baseballs at me, and I was dead by the time I even figured out what was going on :lol :lol

The game is awesome so far. It is so rich on story detail, and it is technically amazing (PC in Ultra). Molyneux could learn a thing or two from the Bethesda guys. For all the impressive AI that the NPCs have in Fable 2, there is nothing like some good old scripted dialog that actually warms you up towards the story.

Play the game with everything on stock settings (remove the OC) and see if that makes a difference.

Also, any way to play this without the disk?

Zzoram you are right. It autosaved when I came out of the room. :D

Here's what it looks like on my PC. I'm too sleepy to keep playing and I hardly made any progress tonight. Still just putzing around Megaton and was just on my way to the market to look for food/medicine for the writer of the book.

I didn't find the medicine in the market because I'm playing on Hard and I couldn't beat the Raiders. What did I miss in rewards for that quest, because I didn't do the optional extra?
