The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

The final one landed on ANOTHER pressure plate, which turned on a concealed automated pitching machine. The machine started hurling baseballs at me, and I was dead by the time I even figured out what was going on :lol :lol

Then you didn't see the real end of the trap. The baseballs knock over some stuff that falls on a bear trap, which sets off some grenades, which ignite the room full of gas, filling the room with flame.

The first time, I set off the bear trap, so it didn't work. I had to reset the bear trap and start the help the process along in a couple of places before it blew me up.

do the achievements transfer connect to me ones on xbox live? will it essentially add to those points?

When you sign into GFW Live, it's like being connected to Xbox Live on your Xbox 360. You will get notifications of friend's, and you will get Achievements, which are added to your Gamertag.

Is there anyway to turn off Mouse Smoothing?

It's seems to be defaulted on and it's pretty annoying. I never play any titles with it on (cept HL2) and really wish I could turn it off...

Also debating whether or not to play this with the 360 controller

What is mouse smoothing?

I didn't find the medicine in the market because I'm playing on Hard and I couldn't beat the Raiders. What did I miss in rewards for that quest, because I didn't do the optional extra?

Not sure, the food purifier?

I have a question about the Violin quest

After I go to Vault Tec HQ I find the locations of all the Vaults, I see that Vault 92 is in the Northernmost region of the game, I am only lv 7 right now should I head into that far region or stay away for now?

Apparently it makes food heal 20% more, so those irradiated iguana sticks will heal 6 instead of 5.

The question is though, is it automatic or do you use it?

I don't use food though, stimpacks are cheap and don't radiate me ^-^

I haven't noticed any issues, but maybe I'm not paying attention. HD4870 512mb here.

what do you think hdr is does?

yeah i know what hdr does and is but this is way overdone to the point of annoyance. What i am saying is its not progressive at all for me every few seconds it changes doesnt seem right.

It's an option alotta FPS include. Basically it'll "smooth" out the mouse movement so as it doesn't look as jittery on screen. Thing is, more often than not, it introduces this delay to your input ...like a very slight lag

HL2 is the only game I can think of that didn't have this lag factor when Mouse Smoothing was enabled

In Fallout3, there is no option for it, but it feels like it's on....or maybe their sensitivity settings are just messed in a config file somewhere

Meh, it's not like this is a precision aiming FPS anyways.

It's not ...but it's still a bit off putting...like say when you want grab something small in the enviroment (like stempack)

Also

Has anyone else noticed you CANNOT MAP your PiPBoy3000 to anything else besides Tab? ...when you do, you can open it up with the key you assigned it to, but YOU CAN'T close it! ...only when you hit Tab! ...even though it's mapped to something like W

I like the controls default. However, a few hours in I remapped VATS to F, but I keep pressing V by accident due to habit forming. Ugh.

that's cool

I've personally been using E,S,D,F for years

Also, I toyed around with playing this with the 360 pad, but the look/turn speed is soooo shitty, and when your panning all the way around, the screen shakes/jitters ...like ALOT. Maybe this is what Dark10x was talking about?

Just got to Megaton, and I like the game enough. I never had a chance to play PC games... ever, so this is new to me.

I really don't like the graphics though. It's just really harsh on the eyes. I'm not sure why, either. It's like there's a high contrast between shadows and highlights (360 version). I'm able to get used to it though.

As for the controls, maybe I haven't pressed the right combo of buttons, but why am I unable to cycle through weapons? I thought real-time weapon-changing was a next-gen feature. Bah.

Otherwise, I really enjoyed the tutorial and opening of the game so far. Pretty clever. And Liam Neeson as the dad is pretty cool.

You map your weapons/aids to the Dpad ....just hold the Dpad when selecting an item in your inventory to map it to a corresponding direction

I thought it was hold LB and press the direction you want to map to. Guess it works both ways.

Thanks. I guess it makes sense with all the weapons there are.

wow this game is amazing. The first ten minutes are the best of any 1st person RPG ever.

I love how it seems like the game has little to do with you as a person, stuff goes on whether you're there or not

I dont remember picking a difficulty, maybe I stated the game too late in the A.M.

So, my Xbox keeps freezing. :( It did it once the night before last, and twice last night.

But here's the thing, it does it on one specific spot. When I try to get a pack of blowflies (I think that's their names) in the Waste using VATS. And I can still turn off the game using my Xbox 360 media remote.

Am I borked? Is the RROD Imminent? Or is it the game?

Sounds like the game. Just try reloading a save. It's apparently a good idea to save often, and not to overwrite saves.

Damn it!!! I was wondering around and dropped a bunch of stuff because I got too heavy.
you can also sell stuff to people working in the bar too. obviously prices vary. basically anyone you can buy items off from the buy/trade menu you can sell stuff to.

Tom Penny said:
Which place to you sell stuff in Megaton?

you can sell items to anyone in town that will sell YOU something, so..... the trader in the supply store, the ghoul in the tavern, the lady selling crap outside the restaurant near the crater, and the restaurant owner IN the restaurant. I tapped them all, and the traders that are generally outside the city when you leave so I have over 1,500 caps already :D :D :D

my internet is out at home at the moment so i haven't had a chance to convey this sentiment, but this game has consumed my life for the past two days. i am completely immersed in every aspect of it. i am totally weaksauce--playing on easy--but i find that's the way for me to go at it this first time through, having little to no experience with this sort of game. i love the environments, i love the characters, the story is engaging, VATS is a brilliant solution to combining turn based and real time combat. . . i just don't know what to say. while i'm at work all i think about is getting home and finding more places to explore and raiders to shoot.

love it so much more than i thought i would.

I left Megaton and made it to the general vicinity of the radio station but I can't find an entrance. Where the hell is it? Is it down the stairs to the train station??

Safe item storage locations? I'm carrying around 700 pounds of important stuff. Hopefully as few steps as possible from a fast travel spot.

anyone dislike movement with the keyboard in this? ...your either going too slow when you toggle walk, or your going to fast when you toggle run

....I'm still debating whether or not to play this with the 360 pad. Thus far the only advantage I see with using pc controls in navigating the interface like the PiPBoy

so are SPECIAL stat upgrades retroactive? eg if I start my character with Endurance of 5, then later in the game upgrade to 6 will I get another 20 health points? Or does only the initial value get used.

Similarly for Intelligence, if you raise the stat at character level 10 do you get the prior 9 skill points you would have had if you had a point more in INT at the character creation?

I thought I read in the fallout wiki that they are not retroactive ...or at least INT wasn't

20 is the max level, so there is definitely a ceiling.

you can't get any higher than 20? ouch.
oh well, i guess that will make me beat the game faster and not do everything in one play, since i want to experiment with different stats/skills.

Go to Megaton and disarm the bomb. The sheriff will give you the deed to the empty house there
.

Not only does this give you get a safe place to put your extra stuff but you can sleep there for free anytime you want among other nifty things.

god me too man. i'm focusing right now on repair, small guns, and sneaking, but i'm desperate to bump up my lockpicking and science skills so i can open more locks and hack more terminals. but there are tons of different character combos that i want to try; it's amazing how long a game like this has taken to come along and get its hooks in me, considering how much i love that sort of stuff.

Awesome!!

Just turned level 4 and got to 25 explosives skill so I could
activate on the Megaton bomb
, and on my very first try
defused it
! And now, with minimal effort
because I didn't ask for money
, I'm the proud owner of my
very own new house, robot, and bobblehead stand
!

Surely this is the happy path a gamer should take. Very satisfied with my choices. Game punishes you for making stupid choices, but this is evidence it rewards you for making good ones, even early.

Oh, Question:
Is stuff stored in containers in my house saved forever like in Oblivion??? I hope so, I dumped all my armor and food there

Not really... I

blew the town up, than killed the old man & Burke after he gave me the keys to my new suite in the hotel

So awesome.

Also how do I get to pivet city or what it's called?

AgentOtaku said:

p first?
I might do that, does it work good? Just plug in the wired controller and there you go or do you need to set it u

I murdered the entire population of Megaton already.

Hrm, I stored all my stuff in an outdoor footlocker in springvale, then went to a different location and moved time forward by a week...everything's still there. Knowing Oblivion, though, it might take longer than that to vanish if it's going to.
