I know man..Fucking Ants...

well I say shotgun those fuckers to the face :)

Their attack has a huge range, and caused me to jump from my seat when I first got attacked from the side and had no clue what was going on :lol

Same! This quest is really hard. :(

Aim for their antennae from a distance. The best way to fight ants is to cripple their antennae. If you do that, they'll "frenzy" and attack whatever's closest to them, even if it's another ant. Use a single shot weapon, like a hunting rifle or a sniper rifle, for best results.

wat?

I don't mind opening pip-boy mid battle anyways, it pauses the game, giving me time to think

Put your cursor on one of your weapons in your pip-boy and hold a number from 0 to 9. You'll see a grid appear with something like 9 or 10 slots to seperate your binds, and you can bind various things. That way you can easily switch between several different weapons in-game. Very useful.

Zeliard said:
Btw, PC users, don't forget you can bind weapons and certain items to hotkeys.

I was just thinking about that today. I'm glad you can. I hate having to jump into the pipboy every time I want to switch.

Thanks :)

Picked this up last night, love what I've played so far. Characters look better than Oblivion but they still move like robots. Like when they go from standing still to walking it's like 0-60 instantly, it looks so weird. I don't understand why they couldn't make the characters slowly ramp up to full speed, it probably would have made it look at lot more natural.

Zzoram said:
I think Fallout 3's animations are hilarious, and make the game feel a bit more video gamey.

The walking/running animations are terrible, but I think the Havok (?) physics help make it for it. It's pretty awesome shooting someone in the face during VATS and watching their entire body flip backwards in slow-mo, right before they land on their neck.

The more I play, the more I think this may be the single best game I have ever played in my entire existence. It's just fucking mindblowing. How the shit could I ever think Oblivion was good? Now all I see is restrictive bullshit when before it was my favorite next-gen game.

If you haven't bought Fallout 3, do it right now. NOW!

Are there any specific tips on allotting attributes and such? I concentrated mostly on Repair, Small Guns and the one that helps Lockpicking. Is it better to pour points into Luck so that all your attributes get a boost or not?

Hrm, I stored all my stuff in an outdoor footlocker in springvale, then went to a different location and moved time forward by a week...everything's still there. Knowing Oblivion, though, it might take longer than that to vanish if it's going to.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the items disappear or not?

I absolutely hated that in Oblivion and I sure has hell hope it doesn't happen in Fallout 3

Ok, the game is bugging out on me pretty badly at the moment. I got to the part where
you're running through the tunnels after the Enclave show up at the Jefferson memorial. Dr. Li says we can't move any further because of Garza's heart condition, so I go and find a stimpak but when I come back, everyone is fleeing for some reason. Eventually I can get Dr. Li to stop running but the only options I'm given are to leave Garza behind or continue searching for a stimpak (which I already have). Garza will NOT stop fleeing and I don't want to leave him behind on my "good" character but I think the game is going to screw me into doing it :(

Luck is almost completely useless. Screw it really.

Easy. PC version is superior and possible mods in the future.

Now, I agree with you there. However, what if someone doesn't have the specs to run the game at a more superior level than the console version...X360 then? Can anyone confirm that it looks quite good for X360 (obviously PC will always take the cake) and is a good alternative ?

I'm considering buying the X360 version (bought PC version already) because I can't seem to fix the framerate hiccups and it's really annoying. Not to mention, the level of detail I'm currently at just doesn't do the world justice, bummer. My computer is definitely not a gaming machine, so I will hang on to the PC version for the future when I build a gaming rig.

If they did not dissapear that would be worse. You could just store things anywhere and expect that no one else would look through it? You would have an infinite amount of storage. I am sure after a long enough time the items are gone. Hopefully. Doesnt it break the game if you can just store things anywhere and they stay there forever. I think only certain places that are secure should be safe.

Anyway this game is amazing. I have been away from RPG's for a long time and this was a great game to get back into the genre with. I have a question though. I have chosen not to blow up the town but when I go to the bomb it still says arm the bomb rather than disarm. Hoping the disarm occurs some other way. I do not need to know what to do because I do not want it spoiled. Just making sure this is not a bug. Also I do not have the skill level to do it yet anyway but I am just checking.

I have been very happy with my 360 purchase. I have had no hiccups or freezing. Graphics look good to me but I am sure someone is going to disagree with me very soon.

Sorry if you've said it previously, but what settings are you running? Res and whatnot.

I have a Pentium Dual Core 2.0GHz, 3GB DDR2, and a 1650 Pro 256MB (128bit).

I wish there was some kind of demo.

This is as spoiler free as I can make it to answer your question
it shouldn't say "Arm the bomb", it should say "interact with the bomb" because that's what it does

Well, I have a house that's supposed to be locked so stuff in there shouldn't go missing.

Also in Fallout 1/2 I would kill entire towns and make them my personal storage. One house would have all the weapons, another one all the medicine, etc...

I was kinda wishing alot I could do that in F3 :S

NO! Use the money to start on that gaming rig. :D

Really, though, the 360 version is fine. I played a bit of it, and didn't see any issues. Still, the PC version does look/feel much nicer with a decent machine.

Thank you for the reply. DLC, quality detail in the environments, solid running game overall - perhaps I will just buy the 360 version. I hate not being able to play on my LCD. I will save the PC version I bought so I have it when I build a new rig. I hope there will be some quality mods for the game, sounds exciting.

I'm surprised at how much I enjoy the game. I'm no RPG-buff and I was never completely interested to finish Oblivion so this is refreshing.

800x600, v-synch enabled, everything else on the lowest settings, I posted screens a couple of pages back :)

how can I steal from NPCs (i.e. what they have on them)? Or is it even possible in this one?

I use to love jacking my Steal stat up in Fallout 1 and 2, completely ripping everyone off while they were right in front of me. :lol It was a great way to get Caps and Stimpacks.

Oh, nice. Yeah, I expected them to look worse.

Cool, now I need to figure what version to get.

I just sat down to take the G.O.A.T test, and nothing is happening... I'm just staring at Mr. Brotch, every other student is working, I don't even have paper, and I can't get out of my seat or access the menu or anything. WTF do I do?

I hear that, if you clock all of your points into Luck during the S.P.E.C.I.A.L part, it gives you a +5 bonus in every other stat - or something of the like. Is this true? Because, if so, I'm going to restart right now.

i would like a response to this query.

I totally agree with you. I can see myself playing through this game a quite a few times. Its so open and theres alot of stuff to see and do. Also, I am from the DC maryland area. Alot of the names of certain places actually exist in Montgomery county maryland which ,for those of you who do not know. is where bethesda softworks is located. Its pretty awesome to see these places in game.

I have had a lot of fun with this game in the few short hours I have played it. I do not think I have progressed the main story line hardly at all. Pretty much been running around exploring.

You can pickpocket. I have not tried it yet. I feel bad ripping people off.

the instruction manual has a picture that says something like "be careful where you leave items! They may not be there when you get back!"

so I'm assuming they do disappear.

Go into Sneak then move behind someone until you are HIDDEN, then press the action button.

Low Sneak skill may mean they detect you and go hostile.

There is a bobble head to be found for each stat raising it by +1, and there are up to 10 levels of a perk giving +1 to any stat of your choice.

Therefore, do NOT put any stats over 8 in character creation if yo want to min/max.

What luck does according to ShadowsDieAway on Gamefaqs:

1 Critical 1%, All Skills +1
2 Critical 2%, All Skills +1
3 Critical 3%, All Skills +2
4 Critical 4%, All Skills +2
5 Critical 5%, All Skills +3
6 Critical 6%, All Skills +3
7 Critical 7%, All Skills +4
8 Critical 8%, All Skills +4
9 Critical 9%, All Skills +5
10 Critical 10%, All Skills +5

Sure, there are scavengers everywhere :)

So what do the mini-nukes do? Just vendor fodder or can you actually use them in something for big damage?
like the rock-it launcher?

The requirements for fallout were bullshit. I'm running this game on high at 1280x800 at 30fps vsync on this system specs:

duo 2 centrino at 2ghz
mobility radeon 2600/w 512mb ram and a 128bit bus
4 gigs of ram

Requirements only apply if you want to run this game at 1080p.

I've been playing for hours yet I've only completed two major quests outside of the vault, Blood Ties and the main Megaton storyline. Both were very interesting and had so many branching paths to explore on my next playthrough (I'm doing the "good" playthrough first). I was slightly disappointed in the lack of resolution in Blood Ties with the girl who originally gave me the quest. It had important results and there was no resolution with her. Did Bethesda just forget about that or something?

Tip - If you're the kind of player that likes opening up more options through conversation, Lady Killer is a great perk that has come in handy three times already for me. It sounds kind of useless, but it's definitely better than just a +5 to a few categories that will get leveled up anyway.

I was amazed at how well this game runs on my average rig. I have an AthlonX2 5600, 2GB DDR2 and a Radeon X1950 Pro, and I can run it at 1280x1024 @ high settings (and some stuff very high) and get a solid 30 fps outdoors.

I can back this up.

Some helpful (and some hilarious) results have come from Lady Killer so far. :D

VATS is so awesome. There was some old crazy SOB out in the wastes (I imagine he had some importance- he actually had a name, which escapes me now) with long white hair, a beard, shades, and leather armor- he just came right at me after I took some Raiders down. I ended up blowing his leg clean off and watched him do a very uncomfortable looking front-flip in slow motion (leg going in the opposite direction :lol). That was a definite "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH damn!" moment! I love this game!

Oh... and: Frag Mine luring/set-up + Frag Grenade > Super Mutant.
Taking down my first freaky Super Mutant was really rewarding. Intense. That big bastard scared the crap out of me.

I restarted yesterday, realigning my stats and skills to how I actually play.

Then after a rough day at work I decided to slaughter everyone in Megaton. It's been a slow, but rewarding process. I'm armed to the teeth now. I'm actually considering not blowing up Megaton now so I have somewhere to keep all my stuff.

I love this game.

Though I had one WTF moment on my earlier game. I had decided to turn Mr Burke into the Sherriff, and as Mr Burke and the Sherriff were talking, I got cocky and picked up the bottle of milk on the table next to Burke. Immediately, everyone in the bar pulled out a gun and shot me down. I'm like, "WTF? You're taking the guy who wants to blow the town to pieces in for questioning, but you shoot the guy who picked up someone else's drink?"

This game didn't really take off for me in the first hour in the Vault, but after leaving and starting a few quests I'm hopelessly addicted.

That's essentially MY setup, except I have a Core2 T8300 ...I am at same RES with vsync, on high and get about 30FPS in wasteland and 60FPS in specific areas like towns, indoors, etc... However, a lot of the textures are very poor quality and some stuff is very hard to read (like signs !!) I don't enjoy looking at the textures like this and my draw distances have to be considerably low to maintain a decent rate. However, I have been enjoying the game a lot regardless of the mediocre detail.
