The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Where is Tenpenny Tower? About where in relation to some landmarks?
Mister Burke can mark it on your map. But if he's already dead or something, southwest of Megaton.

Is that ghoul mission tough? I want to do it but I've never fought Feral ghouls before
Ghouls go down easily.

I saw that there are Normal, Hard and Very Hard difficult settings? most games i play on Hard, anyone played the game on Very hard?

That's good. I never want to do a mission with enemies like those FUCKING FIRE ANTS again. I swear if it wasn't for good ol' Dogmeat I would've been screwed.

i took those pictures of my ps3 le a bit earlier today might just repost them here

I never even got the fire ant quest. My play through was a sham.

Has anyone come across seller with bobby pins?
"A bit buggy" is an understatement. After the first hour of gameplay, I fell outside the defined map area. I could walk around and see all the buildings from the back, but not escape this doom. The quest pointer in the gamecompass is bugged beyond belief. I stopped trusting that device. At another location a key character was missing, and only returned after I rebooted the game. You also quite often get stuck in rocks and buildings.

If a kid comes up to you and tells you that his house was attacked by "THOSE!", DON'T FUCKING HELP HIM. DO.NOT.HELP.HIM.

oh that kid...i told him to fuck off and tried to beat him down (which didnt work) hmm

I kind of want to specialize in a weaponry, but I'm kind of wondering... what do you guys end up using a lot in terms of weapons? Lots of big or small guns?

You did the smart thing. Those freaking fire ants....ugh. The Fire Ant Warriors are especially bad, as it takes an insane amount of head shots to take one down, even using the decently powered Hunting Rifle. And by the time you're close enough to have a decent head shot hit % with VATS, the thing is spraying fire in your face

Thanks..haven't found a school yet, but it's good to know there are free beds somewhere..

Also, if a 'generous' NPC runs out of money (i.e. one that likes you, and pays you more for stuff), how long before they have more money again? Is there any way to speed up that? I don't wanna sell my stuff for half its value (which is all the others will give me at the moment).

1. FInishing the bombing of megaton questline gets you a bed to call your own.

2. The npcs usually restock on caps every week it seems, and when trading with them, it's usually a good idea to remember that if they only have 500 caps, and your giving them 800 caps worth of stuff, to also take anything else you may need until it balances out (Eg. trading your 800 caps with of junk for their 500 caps + 100 energy cells).

Oh and, I don't care if some people think it's cheap, Mysterious Stranger perk is so badass. You're in a tight spot? Que the james-bondy music and watch as a Dick Tracy look alike appears out of nowhere and shoots the shit out of some mutants.

Shoot the antennae to cripple them and they frenzy, then you just let the ants duke it out while you head for the nest.

Save much ammo :)

Yeah I know you can do that but the hit % is pretty low even up close, and what would happen if there weren't 2 ants near each other?

I found the % very comparable to the headshot...strange...I was using a 10mm Submachine gun while close and a scoped magnum from far, BTW.

And it won't do much if there's only one, as they attack the closest target. Outside you might be better off with nades if you're in a pinch. Once you get into marigold station, they are in closer proximity and the trick works well for bypassing them
Also, eating the Fire ant jelly (or whatever) gives you fire resist.

Just hit level 20. Should I go with Grim Reaper's Sprint (
completely refills VATS if you kill someone
) or Explorer (
reveals every location on the map
)?

I've been so engrossed with this game that I haven't posted in a bit, but I just wanted to say that it is fantastic. So much to do, so much to see....I love it.

Damn, I loved that mission, very intense since I was out of ammo so often.

If you frenzy them without any ants close by they start running really fast after you. My best strategy was pulling 2 or so together (they're usually pretty close to run another). When they're near each other I chuck a grenade at em, it'll usually at least cripple their legs, cause one of them to lose their antennas and frenzy on the other, or even knock one out temporarily so you can run up and sledgehammer it to death... unless it crits and kills one or both of them. I also made ample use of the "run for your life while throwing land mines at your feet" strategy :lol .

I actually had three ants on me at once, big ones, I was rounding a corner and tossed a mine while fleeing. I was hiding around the corner waiting for my AP to recharge but they never came out. I snuck back over there and found two of them dead and one of them limping with only about 20% HP left... I assume they all beat each other up. Also, if you do the doctor's mission you receive
25% permanent fire resist
and you can eat the nectar to gain 25% fire resist as well.

I think the thing I love most about this game is that you can find a random place and get lost for hours in it. I was on my way to Cantebury Station or whatever it's called and came upon a tall building called the Chryslus Building. I must have spent at least 2 hours in it, checking every nook and cranny, and wasting Super Mutants and Centaurs.

Soooooo much fucking fun to see 3 Super Mutants down a hallway, shoot at them to piss 'em off, and then lure them into 3 or 4 strategically placed Bottlecap Mines.

I'm only level 13 and I can tell you with complete conviction, get Grim Reaper's Sprint. At least that's what I'd take.

thanks haunted! i figured out how to zoom in to that over the shoulder third person camera perspective, and i think it looks much better this way. hell, i might run around and do some stuff in third person just to see how it is. it looks downright resident evil 4ish at first glance, and is a bit more what i expected from the third person view

Go for Grim Reaper's Sprint, you'll be able to see all the locatins soon enough on the internet.

Gah, I found Fort Independence but can't find Tenpenny Tower. Is it north of that?

Tenpenny Tower is in the bottom left region of the map. It should be pretty easy to find, its the the massive tower on the landscape and draw distance is good in F3.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKED UP YOUR ORIGINAL INI. DON'T BLAME ME FOR STABILITY ISSUES OR SAVE GAME COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMS. If you change your uGrids and find the performance to be unacceptable, DO NOT SAVE THE GAME, or you might run into a compatability problem and your game will crash when you fire it back up after you reset the uGrids.

SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL INI!

This is why I don't fuck with INI anymore.

Way too risky to ruin save games.

Are you saying that I can try your INI, and if the performance or stability is unacceptable, as long as I don't save it, and quit out of the game, I can reload my old INI and re-use the save file that I tried your INI with without corruption?

Does the retail pc version require the disc in the drive to play? Just wondering which version to recommend my brother.

God damn, finding places was fun in Oblivion. In Fallout 3 is is FUCKING EPIC. And I'm just doing the Guide fetch quests from Megaton and stumbling across the War Memorial was jaw dropping. You just don't expect anything to be left and when it is, hot damn.

What an artfully crafted game experience.

And oh SHIT was Minefield fucking fun.

EH? HEHHHH?[/McCain]

Dunno if its old, but I went by Target today and Fallout 3 for PC was $39.99.

Might have been a misprint because it definitely wasnt on sale. The cashier still gave it to me for that price, no questions asked. Almost got Resistance 2 as well, but the register wouldnt let them ring it up.

Game has gotten way harder...
enclave soldiers
dropping in are a bit of a challenge and the giant radscorpions are tough.

Are you playing on Hard difficulty? I have harder times with Raiders than Enclave, they die so easily with headshots and I was quite shocked the first time I popped one with a single bullet. The only enemies that give me a threat are Mirelurks because of their small hit zone, and Giant Rads because they are tanks.

As a testament to how much I like this game, it finally caused me to break down and replace my janky DRE prone launch 360. The constant errors were making it impossible for me to finish a quest, and finally I had enough and picked up an Arcade unit this morning. Who knew that new units were so quiet? My old one sounded like a jet engine during take off while I was playing Fallout, with the new one I barely hear it.

Anyway, I just finished the Tenpenny Tower quest.

I totally sided with the Ghouls. Fuck those rich snobs in the tower!!! Unleashing the ghouls on the inside was so sadistic and funny, and looting the entire tower was incredibly satisfying. It's so fun to be vindictive in this game!

What a great game. It's so easy to get distracted for hours, I don't know when I'll get to the main quest.

The closest over the shoulder view is defnitely much better than the default, or any other third person perspective, but I still have to say that first person is the way to go. I think the player model has no weight and is too floaty in third person, if that makes any sense - even though the camera angle is similar, it simply doesn't feel as good as it did in Dead Space or RE4.

And man oh man,
the Super Mutant Behemoth in the pen at Evergreen Hills was fucking huge (and showed all the weak aspects of the engine, animation and collision detection >_< ) - I shot the generator which supplied the fence keeping him locked up with electricity and hilarity ensued. So much fun to watch the fight from a safe distance and at the end pick off the lucky survivors with a couple Sniper shots.
:D

So in love with this game.

Still in Megaton. Resolved the Burke storyline as a good character.

Hacked Moriorty's computer, LOVE the story/twist so far.

Went into the armory. Now I am armed to the teeth with a business suit and fedora.

Love this game.

Oh man, the Animal friend perk is pretty useful, no more being attacked by random animals, also makes certain quests easier. And raiders getting killed by their own dogs is cool too.

Yes, you should be fine.

I had Simms talk to Burke, and I knew SOMETHING was up because I had sneaked a look at his inventory and saw his wares. So the moment his arm twitched
I went into VATS and criticaled him in the back of the head. Simms thanked me for it and now sometimes when I'm in Megaton some random settler will give me free stuff.

I like free stuff.

Also that dude out there keeps beggin for my Evian. What happens if I keep giving him some?

are any of the bobbleheads truly missable?
i got hte medicine one in vault 101, but i don't wanna miss any others if possible

Holy shit, Vault 112 is awesome, although I'm a bit stuck--
I don't wanna listen to Betty/Brawn, so I went to the abandoned house and I know I have to do something with the clickable objects that make noise, I just don't know what order to do them in...did I miss something? My mind keeps making me try to play Zelda music :lol

The begger outside Megaton?

I gave him some water, and then he just kept asking for more, homeless piece of shit. Later when I came back, he was dead and I'm not sure why. I looted his corpse but there wasn't really much there.

Having fun exploring, but the world is a tad too empty. Still haven't found any interesting NPCs or quests either. The atmosphere is great though.

If someone else finds weight limits annoying, go to console and do

player.setav carryweight 999

I showed those tenpenny bastards! I wanted to be good and resolve things but they were such douchebags!

If you decide to blow up Megaton before you steal the bobblehead from the sheriff's house you can't get it
