The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Heres a unsuspecting layout of how to get the Superior Tesla Armor surprisingly early in the game...and nope not by cheating either. Stumbled upon it while going through one of the main quest missions...

During the main quest mission of escorting Doctor Li and 3 other survivors out of the sewers to the citadel. You will come upon an area where you are attacked by Enclave soldiers from above and behind your group. Give Doctor Li the signal to wait while you scout ahead. Enter the room and turn around and look up. There are about 3 enclave soldiers on the top balcony. Commence to attack them.

You will notice one of the soldiers look different than the rest. And he is also firing a plasma rifle. This is the Tesla Soldier. Now make sure you have the Bloody Mess perk. Theres about an 75% chance you can make your target explode in pieces using the combat shot gun. Make it so and the soldiers will explode in pieces allowing some to fall down to your level.

Make sure you especially target the Tesla Operative. Once he goes down in pieces pin-point where some of the pieces land. You may have to save beforehand if the soldier does not explode or none of his parts fall from the balcony. You can also score a early plasma rifle off the body as well if you have the extra space.

The tesla Armor Gives: 50 DR, +10 to Energy Weapons & 20% Rad Res
The Helmet give a negative Charisma stat because it looks evil. And 10 DR w/ 5% rad res.

The armor is easily the most cool looking in the game. Thees are electric bolts that pulsates over the armor. Theres a energy tank on its back. And there are say, "electic bulbs all around the suit. The things is awesome.

How far into the main quest is this? I didn't read any of the spoilers and I still haven't done ANY of the main quest missions other than escaping the vault.

Okay, either I just ran into a glitch which will cause me to lose an hour of play (forgot to save), or I'm just missing something really obvious here.

Massive Spoiler ahead

After the confrontation with the Enclave in Jefferson Memorial, and the death of the father, Dr. Li says we need to haul ass out of there. So, I'm following her, and she rounds a corner, then just disappears into the fucking wall. I can't find where she went. The game guide says to find the manhole into Taft Tunnels, but I don't know where the fuck that is, and I have covered what I believe to be every square inch of that museum floor.

I hate this kind of crap, it totally breaks the mood and flow of the game. "We have to get out of here now!" followed by ten minutes of stumbling around trying to find some hidden exit that the NPC could have given me directions to. Some clear pathways would be nice every once in a while, especially in the main storyline.

Hey, it's not a glitch, you're just missing it. The manhole looks exactly like a manhole and doesn't really jump out at you. Keep looking.

Well, just found what I was looking for, and why I couldn't see it. There was a dead Super Mutant laying on top of it. I miss the days of disappearing corpses in games.

Where is this Lab the Brotherhood guys are referring to so I can gain permission/trained to use the power armor?
It's in the Citadel. But you have to progess the main story in order to access it. The Main Quest mission to look out for is: Picking up the Trail. Once you gain access soeak to Elder Lyons first. Then gunny down in the countyard where the target range is.

I know I have to hand in a couple man-cards for even asking this question, but does anyone know if using cheats in the PC version blocks achievements?

I love playing Bethesda's games with god mode on to experiment in their environments, etc. But I'd hate to have to choose between that andt ever being able tto earn achievements (though I can understand why they'd block them once you'd activated a cheat...)

Hmmm, I'm right before that part, but there's no way I'm going to get
bloody mess
in time - do you think if I just
blow off his head with a well placed shot, which happens a lot for me, that the pieces might fall down? I've looted the contents of heads before, so I know it's lootable, I just don't know if it would work as well as bloody mess
.

Why do you guys have such large save folders? Mine has 4. Autosave, the save just before leaving Vault 101 tutorial, and 2 for my first playthrough that I alternate with.

because new save is at the top of the list

I have 200 saves.

Sneak Bobblehead: Where exactly in the Den do I find it? I explored the whole thing on a whim and do not want to look through that whole place again.

You can see 3 options on that list, new save, usually autosave, and your latest manual save. It's not really any faster to click new save than on your old manual save.

It's very possible. Just keep your eyes on THAT target to see where the pieces will go. If attempt 1 fails. Load and try again. Dont forget to save right beforehand.

Fuck, it's so damn cool having both Jericho and Dogmeat exploring and fighting alongside you. Both are just so helpful and in different ways, not to mention simply badass. The visual is awesome in VATS, too, seeing them shooting and attacking the enemies in slow-mo.

How do you get Jericho? Heard you have to have negative Karma...is that true?

Anyone with the Mysterious Stranger perk, how often does he come along? And do you still get the XP if he gets the kill?

Sounds fucking awesome for a strange man to appear out of nowhere with a .44 magnum then suddenly vanishing after helping you.

Yep, he won't join you if you're good or neutral. And he costs 1000 caps, which is no small amount in the game, especially towards the start.

Well worth it, though. The friendly A.I., with the exception of some pathfinding issues, really is not bad at all. And he's incredibly useful as a human mule, to use as a second inventory.

Yeah, that was the perk I was most looking forward to seeing in this game. I loved it back in Fallout 1 and 2, and I want to see it in its full, 3D glory.

I think his appearances depend mostly on your luck value.

You know I have not really encountered many followers in this game? Are there anymore you can fill us in on? (save for Dogmeat and all)

1000 caps, eh? I have about 1200 now (still VERY VERY early in the game). I wondering whether I should hire him or not now...

I'd recommend it, unless you're the type that likes to go solo. Another thing he does is make it more manageable to explore the map earlier on, since you can more efficiently take on tougher enemies when he's by your side. He also adds another layer to the strategy, since you can flank the enemy while he's distracting them. The enemies won't just ignore him and attack you - one of the coolest things about the game is that the enemies put just as much priority on your followers as they do on you. You get no special treatment. Of course, that also means you should keep an eye on them, especially Dogmeat.

Those are the only two I have. People in this thread have also talked about a guy named Fawkes who wields a minigun, but I haven't seen him and have no idea where to get him.

I don't know of any other followers besides those three, either.

Yeah I love having dogmeat go and attack a monster like a radscorpion and while the scorpion is concentrating on him I can go right up and get a few good headshots and then melee the shit out of it until it dies :lol

Anyone having sound issues with the PC disc version? Just arrived in Megaton and decided to try the radio. Enclave radio's dialog sections seem to come through just fine, Galaxy news seems to just be static from what I can hear, and the music interludes on Enclave radio seem to skip a bit? I dunno, the music just seems kinda jumpy. Dont have any other audio issues but with the radio.

Yeah, I found this totally badass melee weapon called the Ripper, which is basically a chainsaw. I love having Dogmeat and Jericho attack some enemy while I sneak up behind them and start tearing into them with it. Here's a pic of it:

Another thing about NPC followers like Jericho, they'll wear and equip what you put in their inventory, which is just awesome. I stuck some goggles in there at some point and was surprised when I looked at him and he was wearing them. They're smart about equipping the best weapon/armor you give them. At one point to test that out I changed Jericho's tactics to melee rather than long-range, and gave him the Ripper, and he started using that.

Oh and i'm using Windows Vista, Sound Blaster Audigy SE, Radeon 2900pro512MB, 2GB Ram. The game runs perfectly with all settings on Ultra and no AA or AF (the game looks just fine without either, dont really notice any jaggies except abit on the pipboy's top).

Maybe the radio music sound issue is a Vista issue? Either way...I hope they release a fix to that soon. Was really interested in the the radio stations.

Happens with me ALL the time, like... from level 12-13 it happened 17 times for me.

Just checked out the official forums, seems like that scratchy / "jittery" pipboy music in the PC version is a common problem. Guess they'll come out with a fix or say something soon.

I thought it was intentional (skipping music).

You have to have your luck at 6 just to get him, right? Damn, I don't want to waste two perks on the one that gives you a SPECIAL point, since mine's at 4. Anyone know of any side quests or items that give a permanent boost to your luck?

There's a reason for the static on GNR, you will find out as you progress why... Don't worry your disc is fine!

Need a little help with the Replicated Man quest!

I've got the quest from Zimmer, spoke to that Dr. Preston guy (gave me a holo-disc) and I've been contacted by the Railroad lady, now, apparently I need to speak with Preston in the broken part of the ship to be able to get the best solution to the quest, problem is he won't give any info (I've read that he's involved, no one has told me in-game to find him)! Is there someone else I need to talk to first? Bug? Help!

*Aha! Nevermind, had to talk to some junk-guy in the marketplace.

Playing this game Im reminded of just how fucking pathetic Bioware were with their identi-clone buildings used in Mass Effect.

Every single interior you found on a side quest planet was either one of two precise layouts. So effing lazy its not funny. Compare that with Fallout 3 and Bioware should be ashamed of themselves.

Yeah this was going through my mind over and over. Hopefully someone at bioware is playing this game and taking notes.

I'm still debating picking it up. Also, 360 or PS3?

It's awesome. 360 version is a bit nicer visually, and doesn't have the PSN notification bug that causes the game to freeze for 5 seconds.

Sweet, I did it - and it was all thanks to
My Mysterious Stranger, he appeared up on the platform with the dude, and magnum'd his leg right off - right next to me. Take that bloody mess!
.

Bioware is better at making main quest story lines and end game content, but Bethesda is better at overall gameplay and level design.

If only they would mate...
