The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Stealing Independence quest is amazing, this game is so good.

Its probably the best Side Quest, shame the others arent as intense as this. My favourite part was tripping the Planetarium, and two Super Mutants come to inspect what the noise was :lol

How do you use a Bobblehead? I can't figure it out, clicking on it does nothing.

You don't use them. As soon as you pick one up it gives you a certain permanent bonus.

The ones you have, you can stash in your
megaton home
(if you have it) for instance.

Just hit level 20. Should I go with Grim Reaper's Sprint (
completely refills VATS if you kill someone
) or Explorer (
reveals every location on the map
)?

I'm not lvl 20 yet, but I looked up the perks in advance and have been agonizing over that choice myself... I can't decide which would be better for endgame.

This game is great, but the story isn't put together anywhere near as good as the stories in fallout 1&2. This is the best game bethseda has ever made though.

I have to just say, also, I found a laser pistol in the Suped-Up-Market and hadn't used it for a while but WOW. One of the most impressive laser effects, in terms of sight and sound, I've seen in a while.

That shit is RAD.

Holy shit, Vault 112 is awesome, although I'm a bit stuck--
I don't wanna listen to Betty/Brawn, so I went to the abandoned house and I know I have to do something with the clickable objects that make noise, I just don't know what order to do them in...did I miss something? My mind keeps making me try to play Zelda music :lol

Test all the objects for their sounds, and you'll notice all of them but one play a *bzzt* noise after their respective chord. Now click the one that doesn't and try one of the others - if you get no additional noise, move to the next and so on.

The objective here is to guess the correct sequence through trial and error. Everytime you get a *bzzt* it resets and you'll have to start anew, but thankfully the "code" won't change. Oh, and you may have to repeat some objects in the sequence.

I had Simms talk to Burke, and I knew SOMETHING was up because I had sneaked a look at his inventory and saw his wares. So the moment his arm twitched
I went into VATS and criticaled him in the back of the head. Simms thanked me for it and now sometimes when I'm in Megaton some random settler will give me free stuff.

I like free stuff.

You're literally the first person I've heard of that's posting in this topic that has managed to keep Simms alive during that encounter. All the rest of us weren't able to
kill burke before he wasted Simms.

I was beginning to think that that was the "scripted" save town outcome, and that saving him wasn't an option.

So what's behind those locked doors in Vault
106
? I was a bit bummed that I couldn't open them because they have to hold the secret to the weird shit that was happening while in there.

Ah, you seriously knew to do this the first time you saw this, or you reloaded? It gives you no real warning at all, and for all you know it could be some scripted sequence where Simms shoots him back, and you interfering in that split second might make everyone turn on you.

Just finished "Blood Ties" (taking my sweet time doing things, about 11 hours into the game) and I love how open it is.
I talked the good way out of it, but next time - righteous justice of death upon everyone who's in there.

They're all in the menu/greyed out on the perks screen. No need to look them up. :lol

Where do i get trained in Power Armor?

Once you encounter the brotherhood at the Galaxy News Radio building, make sure you talk to everyone there; one will mention who you need to talk to and where he is in order to receive power armor training.

I did it,
I killed Burke before he got to Simms. I knew something wasn't right, he was resisting at first and then just started complying. Basically as soon as he started standing up
I was spamming VATS and I machine gunned his head off, I was scared I was going to get chased out of town if I did it any earlier. I don't think I got any special reward for it though, just a "thanks". I actually did it before disarming the bomb though, so if I hadn't killed him I would of been royally screwed with no reward at all for the entire mission.

Man I love this game, so much fun just exploring....

Although I was exploring the area and I come across these things called DeathWalkers, and man I got my ass handed to me. It took me about 4 rockets to take one down.

This is probably one of the few games where I have played it so much but haven't gotten bored at all.

So when going on the final mission you don't get to continue?

Just a movie and booted to the main menu. Oh well, I guess I'll skip that one for a while then.

I've talked to them and I still can't find the person I need to talk to, to get power armor training.

You mean DeathClaws? They are horrendously difficult to kill in every Fallout game, and they give me nightmares.

Yeah, there's like a whole town of them in 3. I made the mistake of going there once.

So for Chapter 2 of Moira quests, the Mirelurk:

How do you put the Observer in the eggs? I ran up to the eggs and opened up the inventory, but I couldn't find the Observer in my list, even though it's in my inventory when I'm not opening the egg sack. I also can't just drop the Observer beside them. How do I do this?

How much do Themes cost? Is the Jukebox worth it?

Jukebox is, as far as I can tell, useless. Just acts as a radio, and confers no additional benefit :/ Regretting shelling out the caps for it

All the other house items you can buy are useful, to varying degrees.

not far in the main quest
did anyone else:

not go see Moriarty about dad, instead i did "the wasteland survival guide" in full, and in my trip to Rivet City, i stumbled across Dr Li who knew my dad and where he went, hence skipping a lot of the main story?

i placed mine in some eggs in the water at the lowest floor. He acutally askes you if you want to put them in so you dont need to go though the menu or something

Maybe I'm going to the wrong spot.

I found a Mirelurk guarding 3 piles of eggs out in the open world near radioactive water. I ran up to them but couldn't put the Observer in them.

thats not it, you go into the anchorage memorial and go to the very bottom level with the water. There are numerous "eggs" in the world that can be searched but they are nothing to do with the quest.

Zzoram said:
It didn't for me. Maybe because I was detected?
If you want an option to do it and get the secondary objective easily. There is a storm drain under the water near one of the corners of the building outside. If you go in it, it will take you to the lowest level and there are egg sacks without any enemies too close so you dont have to hurt any Mires.

Two requests I wish to make to the general GAF audience:

1. Can someone point me in the direction towards Germantown? I would like to complete the Big Town side quests (and get the fedora!!)

2.) Can someone point me in the direction towards any of the other vaults, preferably Vault 112 or 106?

Thank you - also prior to doing a 'dangerous' quest I told Dogmeat to head back to Vault 101 - after I completed this quest I fast-traveled back to Vault 101 and he's nowhere to be found? Do I have to wait a certain amount of time for him to return, as if he were actually traveling back?!

Another funny thing, when I returned to Vault 101 I went back in through the exterior doors just for the hell of it, once I entered I noticed that the vault door was open, but was actually in the process of closing? Weird, almost like someone had it open then shut me out? Does it stay open when you first leave?

Yeah I meant that lol, I walked to this town and I see two of them and I think to myself, bring it, and they sure as hell brought it.

The person you need to talk to first is Elder Lyons inside the Citadel. Then after you speak to him head down to the coutyard and find Gunny at the target ranges.
You can only do this at the start of the main quest mission: Picking up the Trail. Which is roughly mid game of the Main Quest route.

Hell no. Looks and feels disgusting. Absolutely not made for third person, just like Oblivion.

actually (I think a few people already noted this) if you put it in a RE4/Dead Space type camera where you can't see the characters feet it really isn't that bad. I switch between the 2 now.

*shrug* I did the same thing. I had a feeling, and I was just staring at him when he got up off his chair - I got used to the animation that occurs right before a NPC goes hostile (a weapon randomly appears on their back/side where it wasn't before) got into vats just as he started raising the gun, and shot it out of his hand. Then he had a backup, shot THAT out of his hand too, and then proceeded to kill him. All I got was a "thanks for that, looks like I'm getting old".
