The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

and the best part is....according to the table of contents....main quest containing only 69 pages exactly..... :D

That 69 pages is more than some other guides. :lol

Yeah, I spotted it at Gamestop last night when picking up LBP. It is absolutely massive.

wow I didnt even know it existed!

I think I'm gonna wait until Borders gets it in store and use one of those awesome coupons with it.

Even at 500 pages, $35 for a strat guide seems too much.

What else is in it beside the walkthroughs and maps? Cool art?

*edit*

Only $20.99 @ Amazon and if you order $25 you get free shipping*

Much better than Gamestop's price.

Yeah it's pretty awful for me, if the 360 version's framerate is actually as solid as people were saying then IGN should dock the PS3's graphics a whole point down and move the score down to the higher-eighties. I'm happy I didn't invest the money, but my roommate's pretty bummed at this.

Anyone else experiencing this with the PS3 version?

Well, the 360 gameplay videos have always been pretty solid in the FR department to date imo, but I guess this just reconfirms the frame rate issues with the PS3 version we've heard for awhile now.

Man I bought the guide for Oblivion and it is probably the only guide I've bought in over a decade or more. Seems like I may need this one as well, bah.

Well, crap, I think I may have just had the decision made for me. I read that Securom is in the retail copies but not the Steam version- is this true?

Workload-wise, this guide took approximately 120 days to construct (And that’s not including the sterling work of others who commenced map-making, design, corrections, approval, and printing), and my personal involvement (authoring, screenshots, and doctor visits for more blood-pressure medicine) was approximately 1,100 man-hours. No, I’m not kidding. But I do have a shockingly thorough knowledge of the game, which was great when I wrote it all down in guide form, but is now sloshing uselessly about in my brain, waiting to be forgotten about. I must have about 650 game saves. And time spent actually playing the game? I’d say around 500+ hours. This was by far the most complicated, gigantic, and madcap guide I’ve ever been involved with, and I loved every minute of it.

Wow, 500+ hours and he doesn't hate the shit out of it? :lol

You'd expect that post to be a maniacal hate filled rant.

Can someone post the article that says stuff about the Steam version? I can't find the link anymore, and even if I could, I can't access it from work.

I'd really like to get the Steam version...I just want to see exactly how it's gimped. I know they said mods may not work, but I want more technical information than that. If it's a simple matter of bringing in a patched .exe, then I don't care.

So I'm running this on an HD4870, e8400, and 4 GB of ram at 1920*1200 with everything maxed out and the framerate drops to 25 at times outside in the open world. Ergh, gonna have to turn down a setting or two.

does the PC version have custom config and/or console commands? I'd like to know if you can cap the framerate at 30fps.

Let's say you want to carry a sniper rifle, an assault rifle, a shotgun, a pistol, some grenades, a melee weapon, and one heavier big nasty weapon for tough fights. That's pretty conservative, a lot of players will want to carry even more guns.

Holy crap. I've been playing nothing but Stalker for the last month or two, where you can essentially carry a bunch of ammo, some health kits, and a single backup weapon before you can barely move. It's taught me that carrying anything more than a single backup weapon is a luxury. But it also taught me to compulsively throw bolts in front of me wherever I go.

But seriously, I guess it never really occurred to me that "normal" games let you store fifty guns in your back pocket.

Thanks for the heads up... just snatched myself a copy. :D

are you buying something to make it $25?

I can't find something for $4.01 to make up for it, I'm using slickfillers but I dont wanna buy something useless.

So...in Megaton.
I'm choosing to disarm the bomb and not blow it up. I tell the sheriff about the guy who wants to blow it up, he runs over there, talks with him and gets shot the fuck up in .5 seconds. Awesome. I hope this means I still get something for disarming the bomb.

Can someone quote it and post in on this page please?

Here:

You may or may not be able to use advanced Script Extender type of Mods on the Direct2Drive download, or the Steam version. If you want to gurantee full mod compatibilty, then you need to get the Retail PC version for that. Mods that do not require script enhancements will more than likely work on the Steam/D2D versions of the game. This is because the D2D version will probably be an Encrypted EXE, and the Steam version will change some code and the way it launches. Further news on this will have to wait until more information is availble, or the mod community has worked their magic.

Note, this is not to say that there will be a Construction Set, this is still not known at this time.

i suck, I read your post too fast and then got beat to the punch. failure abound :)

Come on, Beth. Hook it up.

They have too. They'll get a ton of crap for not doing it.

wtf seriously? I hate when open-world games do that.

Yeah, it's lame. I hear it locks you in somewhere, you finish the quest and that's it. Maybe a vault or something? I dunno.

Picked it up at lunch at Circuit City... got the game and guide for 64 bucks anda 10 dollar gift card. Great deal. I was SOOOO close to buying the hard copy guide, it looked and felt so awesome but it was 35 bucks and I got the normal one for 10 so I could not justify.

My wife was so excited when I dropped it off.. I had to go back to work but she has been playing it ever since so I assume she is enjoying it.

Is the post from a mod or user?

If it's a user, it sounds as if he's not sure about the Steam version. Sounds like just a modified EXE to me. I'll pick up the Steam version, and just download a cracked .exe if ever I need it for a mod.

It seems to me that since the game has no official mod support, they need to inject at bootup. Therefore, they need to alter the way the game launches. This won't work with Steam, since the original .exe is forced to launch through Steam. A modified EXE should do the trick no problem.

Of course, they might find a way to inject it into the Steam version without needing to alter the EXE. Worst case scenario, mods will still work with a crack.

Nah, I just swallowed the $2.99 shipping cost for standard shipping, since it always arrives within three days anyway.

It should get here by Friday, around the same time that my Gamefly copy is delivered.

I can't quite figure the hacking out. How does it work?

edit: Oh. I think i've got it.

How awesome, lol

Reposting 'cause I really need this kind of thing clarified. It determines whether I head out and buy that awesome looking CE (which I'd prefer) or start the Steam dl right now.

Ask your dev team.

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it

And it's not trolling just because you say it is.

Think about what you're saying. Why would Turn 10 know what it's like to dev for PS3?

I'm asking because Odrion's complaints go beyond just a minor mention in the reviews we've seen and yeah, it shocks me that Bethesda would release it in such a state.

Whatever. I've been watching one of our senior designers play the game all day. Can't wait to get home and try it. He's been mostly screwing around and being as horrible as possible. One hilarious moment was when he did VATS on his father with a BB gun and it went into slow motion cutscene view showing him shoot his father in the head. We all exploded in cheers and clapping.

Is it the pipe dream goodness of Bioshock, or the snooze-inducing clinky-clink of Oblivion?

You mean poop dream?

It's almost puzzle like. A screen pops up filled with these text outputs (words like HAPPY and STAND and TODAY). You have to see what the words have in common-- letters and position-- and you get four chances to pick which text output is the password.

Or rather, is it like neither? Because I hated both.

Edit: Ah. Nevermind I found the answer to my question.

What is the answer to your question? It's nice to see that the DRM is only a disc check but I am still wondering about the install limit.

GreekWolf said:

The hacking (lockpicking in Oblivion, to be correct) sucked in both those games.

No. I saw in another forum that it only checks the disc when launched. That's it. They better be right, I'm pretty sure they are though.

TheExodu5 said:
Disc check? Ugh, I'd never buy the disc version then.

Err, why?

Darklord said:
Err, why?
Because disc checks are for consoles.

The check is pretty much the only reason I haven't grabbed the retail version, in light of potential Steam modding problems in the future.

It's pretty cool now, but I think it's a bit too trial and error. But maybe real lock picking is?

Anyone notice the writing is much better? It's so much funnier. Some of the dialogue choices are cute. "I'm about as irradiated as I can be without burning a hole through the floor." :lol

Cool beans, that sounds awesome.

Protip: if the output clues are ENGRISH, TEXTURE, PORT and FUCK... the password is okrim.
