The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

There are radiation sickness levels that effect your stats at 200-400-600-800 RADS and 1000 RADS means death. You can pay for a Doctor to fix you up or you can take RadAway and do it yourself.
I just read that in the manual. Goddammit I need to stop eating random ass food and drinking liquids that I find along the way :lol . Spider meat is so tastey though.

Got it on the PS3. Awesome game.

If you liked Resident Evil 4 you're going to love this game. Fallout 3 definitely reminds me of it when exploring caverns or desolated buildings with my gun drawn.

The game looks better than Oblivion on the PS3 so I'm content with it.
I encountered a game stopping bug though within the first half hour of the game. A save and a load took care of it after consulting teh webz... but I do hope that was the first and the last of that.

Either you are trying to break into peoples houses or its still too early. Moriarty's should be open all night and places like Craterside Supply, The Brass Lantern and the Doctors Office should be open by 8am or so.

Moriarty's is locked. How do I check the time?

Right here, I've played Fallout 1 and 2 through many times since they came out and I'd easily say they're my favorite games of all time.

I also got bored of Oblivion after about 10 hours. It had more to do with the setting and the writing than anything else though. I consistently saw parallels between fallout and oblivion as I was playing the latter, it's just that Oblivion was sort of boring.

As for Fallout 3, it really feels almost entirely unlike but not completely similar to the old Fallout games. It plays much like Oblivion did, but in the Fallout universe. The combat is very similar to oblivion when you're outside the V.A.T.S system, but when you're using that you can't help but think that this is what Fallout would be if it was real time.

For example, I stumble across two super mutants in the wasteland who are poised to rip my head from my shoulders. Using vats, I was able to make one lose his minigun he was carrying by crippling his arm (no two handed weapons as a result) and the other slowed down because I got a crit on his legs. I thought for sure I was going to die when I saw those Mutants coming over the horizon, because I remember the first time I saw them in Fallout 1 they were such fucking impossible things to kill. I still was way underpowered, but like the old games, you can use targeted hits to swing the odds in your favor. Very awesome.

I think that's the real difference, along with the perks and SPECIAL that makes it just cling onto that classic Fallout feeling. As much as the setting and story ARE Fallout, all those little Oblivion engine things (Glitches, simliar sounding npcs, the control) tend to pull you out of the "This is a Fallout game" mood every once in a while.

The music also doesn't really feel right. It lacks that tribal feeling that the other games had. But they were more about being in the desert and many of the people and locations were tribal. Fallout 3 has a bit more of a modern feel to it. Closer to the old west than ancient native americans. The variety is good, but I was hoping to hear a few of the old tracks from Fallout 1 and 2.

If you're a fallout fan you should buy and play this regardless. Bethesda's effort and ability to pull something off like this with such a huge budget is worth supporting, even if they didn't get it perfect or it isn't exactly like the old games.

If I had my way there'd be a 2D, Turn Based, Isometric fallout as well, but this is a quality product on it's own. Not as good as the originals so far, but still a great, must play RPG, even in this packed holiday season.

Thanks, guess I'll give it a shot and maybe not think of the originals too much :).

I'm stuck...

Do I have to go through Friendship Station to get to the galaxy news radio place or whatever? The map is really awful and confusing :\

Well I don't think many if any people from black isle were involved. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if those are the bar which this game is judged. They are absolutely classics and would be near impossible to replicate today.

What Fallout 3 is is a very fun, very well made RPG in the Fallout universe. It really doesn't even deserve the sequel number, because it's very different, in tone, in setting, and in the gameplay.

It doesn't make it bad, though. Don't listen to NMA. They're good for their dedication, but they're crazy

UPS just delivered my CE from Gamestop. The Vault Dweller's Survival Guide that came with the music CD and poster is a pretty cool freebie (I wasn't expecting much from it). I am almost finished with Fable 2, and I might run through Dead Space one more time before I play, but I am really looking forward to spending some time with this game!

Is there anything like night vision googles or torches? It's freaking dark at night, I can't see shit.
Turn the light on your PipBoy on.

Sounds like you're at the wrong entrance. Time is displayed when you wait, I'm not sure if it's in the PipBoy too.

Ah thanks, I wished they mentioned that in the game. I wonder though, if you get enough RAD exposure will you glow in the dark?
I'm pretty sure they did during the escape when I played. No, I don't think you glow in the dark from radiation exposure.

Has anyone else had the game crash? Hard lockup twice now. 360 version btw.
Not in the 30 or so hours I've played.

Well that would have been good to know before I exterminated everyone in the vault. They had it coming though, especially those Greasers.

God, I can't wait to play this later.

Far Cry 2 is seriously going to suffer. :(

Hope I do end up getting pretty far in FC2 or finishing it at some point.

It takes a while to download. After it gets to 100%, it's really only downloaded 1/3 of the game, then when you launch, it "updates" and finishes the download and install. At least that's what happened with me.

Seems to be a very specific spot. Will try to go around it and see.

I had 1 specific spot in Oblivion that always caused me to crash. I beat it by walking a huge circle around that spot.

Four times now.

I am loving the games right now... but all of the ones I have been playing have crashing issues... sucks.

Ugh steam going so slow. Any remedies?

I've just been waiting for it to finish. Hopefully it means it's selling well on Steam. I want every game to go to Steam, so they better games sell on it, the more support it will get.

2 hours in with the PS3 version. It definitely definitely feels like a PC game running on a console; from a controls and presentation perspective. The PipBoy is an absolute pain in the ass to navigate on a controller IMO.

No glitches/bugs/crashes aside from the onscreen pause when you receive an XMB notification. It appears to be related to in-game XMB, so it should be patched out pretty easily. The graphics are more than sufficient. From what I've seen so far, the only people that are likely to complain are those that have seen the 360 or PC versions. We'll see how the rest holds up. I'll save the PC version for when I build a new right. The 360 version wasn't an option since I'm busy with Fable 2 and my optical drive is on its last leg.

About 4-5 hours in now. It's pretty cool so far, but the combat is seriously shit on a stick outside of VATS. Just garbage. =( I also wouldn't have minded a little minimap in the top corner or something.

OMG! I got a prompt saying the Steam servers are too busy and it stopped my Fallout 3 update. BAH!

This game better have sold a shit ton on Steam. This didn't happen to me for Orange Box, Warhead, or Far Cry 2 release days.

WTF, I was at 70% update, and now it's restarting at 8%. Waaaah (tears)!

Wait, it's going super fast now, those % are moving up pretty quick. Maybe it'll catch back up to 70% very fast.

Great :)

Man the whole megaton town just busted caps in my ass for breaking into someones house and stealing something. That's fine and dandy but it kept loading me as I walked out of the house so I kept getting shot up. Had to load my save from when I just got out of the vault...

btw, how do I put away my weapons?

Just played through the intro on the 360 version. I like it a lot so far. The combat takes some getting used to, but once I stopped treating it like a FPS and took a more strategic approach using VATS, it seemed to go better. Anyway, it's crazy that it's been 10 years since Fallout 2. I never though there would even be a Fallout 3, so unless the game turns to total shit, I'm happy.

Hold down X.

fixed the ps3 framerate problems, I had to download some new ps3 firmware

basically the game fucking ownz except the voice acting, and boy does the voice acting not fit

Running at 1280x720 with everything on maximum. AF is at 15x (the highest it goes for some reason) and AA is at 2x. Runs like a dream. It very rarely goes below 60 FPS and when it does, it only drops a few frames. I think my minimum FPS was 52 or something.

Running on an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, an ATi Radeon HD 4850, and 2GB of RAM.

oh yeah and the game is pretty fun too

Just to be sure..
Don't know if it has been answered already but..
People you kill, respawn..or stay dead for the rest of the game?
I mean..I just around 6 hours killing alot of people in Megaton, and stole their stuff, then store that stolen stuff in stolen store boxes.. :p ..and I want to be sure that when I return, I can just waltz through the door get everything I need and then leave..

Holy shit some stores in netherlands already have this in ( dimension plus ).

If I didn't just buy Far Cry 2, I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

Damnit.

lol :(

Vital quest NPCs are knocked unconscious everyone else is killed. I wouldn't trust items you've stashed to stay though, people will probably steal them like in the previous games. Always stash them at your own place (if you have one).

I hope so, I stored a bunch of stuff in a box and I havent checked yet.

BTW, you should do the disarm Megaton bomb quest if you can,
you get your own house in the town...then you just just store stuff in there instead of finding some secret spot

You get a place elsewhere if you don't disarm the bomb.

I was blown away by the beginning of the game but the PipBoy interface breaks it for me. I cannot stand using it, I have to squint at my 42 inch lcd because only 1/3 of the screen is used for actual information in the PipBoy... very disappointed by that, normally I would keep playing it but I have so many games right now in my backlog that I won't be coming to this in quite sometime.

What's wrong with it? It's perfectly fine (more than perfectly fine, it's excellent) on the 360 version and I've played 30 hours on a 42" LCD.
