The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

My mistake in this playthrough was to take the Swift Learner perk, which gives you a 10% boost to experience you get. I only took one rank of it, but it would've probably been better to take the leveling more slowly. Not to mention take a more useful perk.

Same here.

Oh well.

I think I'll be getting sniper and finesse next.

You don't have to give him the original declaration you know.
If you get the robot some ink from the Arlingtion library he can make a perfect duplicate. Delusional old man's happy, robot's happy, everyone's happy. Also you get good karma. :)
Wow, neat solution, I screwed up the conversation though and ended up having him call me on my bluff of having the Archives surrounded with an army of redcoats and attacking me. :lol
Anyways, I just got a message begging me to to go back to the Vault even though I'd killed that chicks dad--and then she proceeds to kick me back out after using me! What a bitch!

It's such a trip walking around the Fallout 3 world since it's so incredibly well-realized, but also because I live in the D.C. area. I see all these ruined landmarks and locations in the game that I've seen and been to very often. It's eerie. I actually used to work just a minute's walk away from Friendship Heights Station, which features in the game as one of the subway stations.

What's the good karma way of dealing with the Tenpenny quest?
Convince the residents to let the Ghouls stay.

Although, (Good quest ending spoilers)
Roy is a dick. He kills all the people after a little while. Tenpenny, too. I was pissed.

Yeah, it's better to take a more tangible perk that will be useful even after Level 20. I think you level up enough on your own - especially if you are Well Rested from sleeping in a bed before you finish off a quest earning tons of exp. I am currently level 12 already and have over half the game left to explore if not more than that.

Most of the perks just seem useless, especially the +5 skill ones, I mean you get like 20+ skillpoints per level anyway.

Even if that were true (it's not) it still allows you to level a skill faster and makes it easier to spread point around each time you level up.

Those aren't really useless, they're just mostly helpful if you want a really specialized character. They help that process go by quicker.

The big decision at level 20 for me will be between Explorer (every location marked on map) and Grim Reaper's Sprint (AP bar refills after each kill). I'll probably go with the latter and leave those locations I missed for the next playthrough.

Good question I killed Roy Williams and got bad karma. But I have to admit it was very memorable, that mission was intense.

This sucks. I know I didn't kill Jericho yet he isn't in Megaton anymore or I can't find him. How can that be?

I can't verify whether or not Jericho leaves town at some point after you finish Power of the Atom if you defuse the bomb, since I recruited him fairly early on (and also haven't even finished that quest), but he should probably be around if you haven't killed him. He walks around a lot, though. I'd check mainly Moriarty's (be sure to check that corner next to Burke), the seating area down at the bottom where the goods lady sells stuff, and Jericho's house. If not one of those three he's usually walking around Megaton.

Finished the main quest. Level 17 with from the looks of it almost half the map still uncovered. I still haven't faced a single Deathclaw yet. :|

All in all, absolutely amazing game. Could barely have been happier with how it turned out. It's not perfect, but to nitpick would really seem greedy. Most of the issues are well known and said many times in this thread, but they're all really very minor. My own peeve is the faces and how it zooms in during conversation. The models are miles better than Oblivion's, but the animation is still terrible and the faces lifeless. It wouldn't be a problem if the camera didn't fly right up to them when they spoke. Why are they deliberately drawing attention to the weakest part of the presentation? Mind boggling. Hopefully (but not too hopefully) they add an option for that in a patch.

The ending was a disappointment given how inconsequential everything really is, but everything leading up to that is amazing.
Liberty Prime
is
fucking awesome! :D
Also the fact that Malcolm Mcdo..President Eden
was a computer
didn't actually surprise me. I had a hunch as soon as I got to Raven rock.
Then I used circular logic to convince him to blow himself up :D
Funny how I relied almost entirely on small guns and explosives, and later dabbling in big guns, largely ignoring energy weapons. Then as soon as I got a plasma rife and tesla armor late I stocked up on MF rounds and loaded points into energy weapons for the next 2 levels. Now I use it almost exclusively.

I'm already getting anxious to go back in and explore all the places I missed. I don't think any single player game has managed to captivate me like this even after I finished the story. Usually the rewards aren't good enough to justify return trips, but here the exploration itself is reward enough and the sidequests and hidden areas have the same incredible attention to detail that the main story does. Expansions must come quickly and frequently. Big stuff. Not just meager DLC fluff. A game this amazing deserves it.

Damn. I think he left then. I checked all around. Oh well.

so where the hell is dogmeat?
The Scrapyard. It's north of Megaton. Honestly, he kind of sucks. He charges right into conflict, jumps into your line of fire, then you have to use a bunch of Stimpaks on him.

Oh oh, after Raven rock
I meet up with Fawkes, but my other followers, Dogmeat and the BHoS chick Cross disappear.
Can I find them again? Please don't tell me they were captured inside Raven rock
when I blew it up

Same thing happened to me. I'm guessing it's a glitch. Or,
the Enclave off them and they just forget to mention it.

Where do I find Plasma Weapons / Enclave? I'd love to clear GNR at level 13 with a plasma rifle :lol

Also thanks for the heads up, I was actually headed to Rivet City right now, but I still haven't done GNR yet.

That really has not been my experience at all. Dogmeat definitely charges the enemy, but you can have him stay back if it's someone especially difficulty. And I'm truly not understanding the complaints people have about him constantly needed stimpaks. He fights with me constantly and his health bar barely even budges unless he's up in a melee fight against some super mutant. I've had to use a total of one stimpak on him.

ChrisGoldstein, he's just south of Minefield, in a junk yard.

I didn't get him until I was already at the final story quest, though. By then
Enclave are everywhere, and from what I've seen, then tend to bring Deathclaws with them.
He was pretty useless against higher level foes. A Deathclaw struck Dogmeat down in my game. I didn't care.

I had Dogmeat for about 5 minutes. Was running from the Scrapyard down to GNR and after a bit I noticed he was gone. Few seconds later it said he died. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Well, I'll have to see when I get to that point, but so far he's been very helpful. In combat, if nothing else, he provides a useful distraction, though he also has the tendency to take a lone enemy down by himself. And before I got the scrounger perk, he was great at going out and finding me various ammo. He might be more of a chore in the endgame, but earlier on he's a nice companion. Much more useful than the original Fallout Dogmeat, I think, who was definitely more of a chore. :P

Yeah, when I replay as an evil person, I'll have to get him early to see how effective he is facing enemies like Ants. How well does sending him out for ammo and stuff work?

You'll find your lady friend safe where you got her from, except she won't join you again as you can only have one main follower. Not sure what happens to Dogmeat at that point though as I didn't have him.

so is my suite in tenpenny forever unsafe? killing those assholes i helped get in there doesn't seem to change anything.

It works well. I've tried it with all three, chems, weapons and ammo, and every time he's come back with something. It's random, so you never really know what you'll get, but he does bring that stuff back. I don't do it often anymore though, not just because I have scrounger (which has to be one of the best perks in the game, much more effective than Fallout 1's version), but also because every time I send him out I worry that he's gonna get killed when he takes too long to come back. :lol

My problem with Dogmeat is that I don't want him to die, so when he rushes ahead, I do too, which puts me in a combat situations that I normally wouldn't be in. I'll be more likely to use him when I go play a heavy gunner.

Tranquility Lane...
wtf. I think I found a bug. I refused to do something for Betty (break up the couple), then I punched her. She froze me right then and there and I couldn't move (except for moving the camera). This old lady came to talk to me about the terminal in the abandoned barn or something, but I can't move at all, I'm completely stuck! All the while, Betty keeps saying: "You've won the game!"

I just have to add that I definitely had Hellgate flashback when wandering through DC. Despite the fact that FO3 DC is WAY more interesting, varied and complex, the similarity of the streets and subway tunnels gave me a bit of posttraumatic stress.
I don't hold it against Bethesda, rather it makes me hate hellgate even more for making me feel bad playing fallout 3 even for a second. :lol

Weird. I think that's a bug.
When I hit Betty she just killed me right there on the spot.

Is there something specific I need to do in Va
ult 106
?

Or is it just another dungeon that's just creepy and not story related? I got the Vault 106 Master Key, but I can't find any place left to explore or any other Survivors.. Am I missing something?

Edit:

Well I guess it is story related, I just mean is there something I need to trigger here.

Please, somebody with a game guide could shed some light on this thing? There are different places where you can get those codes, but it didn't do anything for me.

Also, this one is a really good armor (probably best on the game)

Be warned though. You can't repair it. :(

Ugh. I told Dogmeat to wait somewhere and forgot to grab him before I left, and I can't remember for the life of me where the hell I put him.

He'll eventually go to Vault 101 if you leave him long enough though to be honest I can't find him sine he went there.

Check the train station area. Go to where the ghouls are, into their backroom, and into the sewers. You'll find the Family down there eventually so check your local map frequently.

Just finished the game. 26.5 hours, level 14 at completion.

the way it ended i thought matched the mood of the game- I chose to sacrifice myself. The prologue was less than I expected. I was hoping for something like the original Fallouts that give me an update on the places I had visited. I don't see how there are a bunch of different endings.
now time to reload my last save and explore the wasteland. excellent game =)

Ugh, can someone help?

I'm trying to capture a slave (Flak, specifically) and I have no idea how to get the collar on him. I shoot him with the Mesmetron and he becomes disoriented for a little bit, but I can't equip the collar or there's no prompt for me to use it on him. How the hell do I get the damn thing on him???
