The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

My coworker just told me about an infinite EXP exploit in FO3. :P

Really easy to do too. I'm going to avoid it.

Ugh, can someone help?

I'm trying to capture a slave (Flak, specifically) and I have no idea how to get the collar on him. I shoot him with the Mesmetron and he becomes disoriented for a little bit, but I can't equip the collar or there's no prompt for me to use it on him. How the hell do I get the damn thing on him???

When he's standing dazed just go up to him and interact with him, you'll get some options and one of them is to put the collar on.

Ok what the hell!

im up to the part where i have to escort doctor lee out of the lab and i cant proceed any further because Garzaa has a heat condition!. i basically used all the stimp packs and cut Garza into peices with my knife, drop him infront of doctor lee and she still insists i get some medical supplies for him!. The man is fucking mutilated in front of you stupid stubborn bitch!

any know how i can get passed this?

Wasn't there a speech option to leave him behind?

I'm having a problem (PC version) with Moira and my Megaton house. I bought the house items from her and they showed up at my house by the time i got back. But when i attempted to purchase the explorer theme and then told her i wanted to change my theme to explorer and she says 'Consider it done', nothing happens. I slept 24 hours. I left town and came back 12 hours later. No change.

So I figure maybe there was a bug, went and purchased ANOTHER theme from her, told her to install it, she says 'Consider it done', and I'm still stuck with my lame original shack.

Anyone else run into this nonsense? Does it take a week for themes to change or something?

I beat the game earlier today (PC version). My final time was 26 hours. I still had a ton of side quests to do and I had barely even explored the northern half of the map (I don't think I ever entered the northeastern quarter). I was a bit surprised at the final quest and found it rather rushed / anti-climactic. The actual events that unfolded during the quest were awesome, but I kind of wished there was a little more to it. I didn't expect it to be the final quest and was a bit surprised when I was faced with the final decision that led to the ending movie.

Otherwise I absolutely love this game. It is easily my GOTY for 2008 and I will probably be playing through many many more times just like I did with the first two Fallout games. I think Bethesda really did a great job recreating the Fallout universe in 3D and capturing the feel of the game. A lot of people say the game is a lot like Oblivion, but most of the things they attribute to being Oblivion-like were also in the original Fallout games. I was extremely skeptical when I heard about Bethesda creating Fallout 3 after my disappointment with Oblivion and honestly the gameplay videos I originally saw worried me. I wasn't even sure if I was going to pick the game up on launch day, but a lot of the impressions that were trickling in before the release day pushed me over the edge and I am extremely glad I picked it up. The game had me hooked within the first 20 minutes and it only kept getting better and better.

The atmosphere and attention to detail in this game is second to none in my opinion, especially considering the size of the game world. I put in 26 hours and I doubt I visited even half of the locations in the game. I was just talking with another friend who recently finished the game as well and he was talking about locations and towns that I had never even heard of. The game is so open-ended that it is totally possible for people to have completely different experiences and that really does a lot for replay value.

I made it up to level 19 before I did the final quest and there were a few decisions I wish I didn't make, so I plan on starting up a new game and doing things a bit differently. I can't wait to tackle the various scenarios in different ways and see how they pan out. I still intend to keep my current save files so I can pick it up and explore with an already powerful character.

If anyone is on the fence about this game, I wholeheartedly reccomend that pick it up. If you have a decent computer that was able to run Oblivion, definitely get it for the PC. It runs better than Oblivion did and it is an amazing game.

I do have one question for anyone who has been to the Galaxy News Radio station. How do you actually get to it? I was doing the Wasteland Survival Guide side quest before I progressed the main story and it brought me to Rivet City where I encountered the character that let me progress the main quest and effectively skip past the whole GNR part. Earlier today I decided I wanted to check out the station, and I tried to reach the spot marked on my map but I simply could not find a way into it. I spent about 2 hours searching the north end of D.C. and then pretty much "hugged" the outside wall all around D.C. trying to find an entrance into the area where GNR is, but I simply couldn't find it. Can anyone help me by describing the entrance area? Is it locked out forever if you skip past that part of the main story? Any help would be appreciated!

You have to use the subway to get to GNR. You enter at Friendly station iirc. That confused me and a lot of others at first too.

Are the rumors of NPCs dying in towns via falling to their deaths true? Because I can't find Walter and I've been hanging around the water plant for like 3 in-game days now...don't see a body anywhere though...

you gotta stay hit the TALK button and there should definitely be a choice , then you tell him to go to paradise falls, but you have to make sure no one sees you; don't even bother stealing anything from him (there will be a choice asking to see what he has in pockets) If you have a stealth boy I suggest using that AND crouching while all this goes on. If you really don't have a prompt to talk to him or put a collar on him then you found a bug...

Taken from gamefaqs:

Infinite XP

You can gain infinite XP if your speech skill is high enough.(My speech was about 30 at the time). Go to town called "Big Town" located north of Vault 101.If you spoke with a girl named Bittercup she should tell you about her dating exploits. After speaking with her, go into the house marked "Common House" and speak to a man named Pappy. There should be a speech skill dialogue option that says "You came here with Bittercup, right?" You will get XP every time you click it. (I got 6XP with each click). Continue to do this and you can rack up XP in mere seconds. Bethesda has not yet patched this glitch.

Well I found Dogmeat. Yay!

But I didn't really need him so I told him to go back to Vault 101.

10 minutes later, message pops up that says he died. Dammit.

Funny you mention that, I actually found the
"Terrible Shotgun" which is a unique version of the Combat Shotgun. That shit is POWERFUL. Plus I have about 350 shells :lol Anyways, me and Jericho whooped those ghouls asses and I got my Fisto Power Glove :D

For those that have done the Oasis side quests, there is a friggin OOmpa Loompa in the village!

:lol :lol :lol

I had him with me for awhile, but goddamn I had to constantly heal him. He was more of a burden than anything. So, I left him at Vault 101 quite awhile ago. I wonder if I could make him stay in Megaton.

That would be useful if Pappy's head wasn't attached to the common house by means of a Railway Rifle. :D
It would make for an interesting conversation. I have 100 medicine and 100 speech lemme see what I can do.

He's not in the office in the back?

The single most effective way to take down enemies who wield long-range weapons, especially guys like the super mutant brutes with lots of DR, is to aim all of your shots at their weapon.

I perfected a much better technique: Hit them in the head and kill them on the first shot. They don't get to shoot back. Works great. :D

Don't send dogmeat back to vault 101. Go to your house and then tell him to stay, he'll stay there indefinitely. Last I checked he was playing card with Fawkes.

Yeah, performing a one-hit stealth kill from 50 yards is oh so rewarding.

After I finish my first run through without guide, and second run through with guide to complete everything, I'm going to play a third time without saving. (or simply saving over the same file). It's going to be the single life game, and all actions and consequences are permanent. Also not going to use fast travel.

I'll take screenshots and document it for GAF.

So I just
blew up all the ants
and now the little kid is asking me to find him a new place to live, he mentioned some lady in Rivet City. Im under the assumption that she lives inside the
aircraft carrier
?

Only gripe I have against FO3 is that the last hour feels like they're rushing you through once you pass the point of no return. The climax/ending was underwhelming imo,
Raven Rock was satisfying but after that the Liberty Prime segment is essentially a long cutscene where you may have to shoot at one or two people, and then the Autumn fight was over in one VATS move. They should have killed off Fawkes somewhere other than the "I can't do that" excuse for him not going in the chamber this time.

Going through my second playthrough now. Missed a lot of things since I followed the main story all the time not expecting to make the progress that I did in that amount of time, only non-story quests I did were the Survival Guide ones and I only saw one Deathclaw in the entire playthrough. Playing as the evil guy seems to net a shitload of caps, at around 3k and I just arrived at Tenpenny Towers.

It looks like all of gaf escaped the bug after leaving Rivet City that freezes the game.

Looks like a lot of people have the same problem on Bethesda forums though so i'm hoping they patch it soon so I can continue with the story.

Pfft, I had to go in there with 40 10mm ammo, 8 hunting rifle ammo and 3 frag mines.

Not a happy camper, esp when that
glowing bastard came out.

Exact same problem in my game; the dude just completely disappeared early on, he's absolutely nowhere to be found, and I have like 80 scrap metals :(

I think NPCs either disappear or die randomly by error though, my friend had the same problem and he found Walter dead in the radiation pool where the bomb was for absolutely no reason. To top that, my one friend, the very first time he goes into Megaton at the beginning of the game for the first time, Lucy West is just dead on the ground, so he never got that whole quest from her. He says that the Sheriff and Walter have also completely disappeared for him as well, and in other places he's found people randomly dead for no reason as well.

This is all on 360, but it's kinda annoying :/

Speaking of dead people, was the guy at the top of the tower in Rivet City
supposed to jump to his death? I don't remember his name, but some of the people tell you he spends all his time up there now or something. When I exited the door at the top of the tower, he did a little run around the platform then fell off the ledge.

This sounds awesome...Did it look like a scripted event or more like some weird glitch? So many crazy details in this game I wouldn't be surprised if it was an intended, scripted event because they do mention his mental health problems and you can even talk to the priest about it.

Ugh. I told Dogmeat to wait somewhere and forgot to grab him before I left, and I can't remember for the life of me where the hell I put him.

haha that happend to me last time too. Than i whas walking into a shop inmegaton and there he whas floating in the air and waiting for me. good boy :D

Good lord I think I've totally chumpetized my playthrough by going somewhere I wasn't supposed to. I decided to do some random exploring in the southwestern area of the map for kicks and sidequests when I...

MAJOR MASSIVE SPOILER

Stumbled across my dad. Then he leads me to the Jefferson Memorial and we're fighting super mutants together. I just wanted to leisurely explore around and take the game really slow and now I feel like I've been thrust into the freaking end game already. I only just met Three Dog! I could reload my save and avoid finding him, but I can't play the game pretending I don't already know where he is. :\

Curse you, non-linearity!!
