The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

The Rock-It Launcher is fun. Those mutilated arms and legs you pick up from random gore piles that go in your inventory, you can actually use as ammo for that gun, along with other misc items. There's nothing quite like rocketing a severed arm into someone's face in VATS.

Rock-it launcher does so little damage though, and unlike the conventional weapons, the ammo weighs you down.

He spends most of his day in the marketplace.

Thanks - I was looking in the wrong spot.

I'm not sure, but I heard it doesn't matter once they have a bounty on you. So going to the opposit end of the spectrum could possibly bring both Regulators and Talon Mercs after you. Now that would be funny. I'll try it when I get home tonight.
Heh. Yeah, that could be trouble if you piss them both off. Oh well, I guess I'll keep some mines and other goodies on hand to deal with these Talon jerks.

I found him on the bridge at the entrance to the city. He was hanging out there for a long time in my game

I like it. Keeps my talon company armor repaired. Just remember to have a decent weapon equipped every time you leave a subway or fast travel somewhere.

The damage depends on what ammo you use for it. I've knocked off heads in one shot with it.

That's true that its ammo does weigh you down, though.

I've killed stuff in sneak attacks with it, but face to face I haven't found any ammo that can beat out a revolver or a well conditioned combat shotgun.

Do you have a link?

According to a chat Pete Hines and Eurogamer had...

Eurogamer said:
dl77 asks: Will there be a patch to add southpaw controls for the left-handed people out there? And what about a fix for the various PC niggles?

Pete Hines: Well on the 360 the console itself actually handles that. You change it in your control options, so we don't bother doing it in the game. I'll have to check on how PS3 works.

As far as fixes, there's a PC update coming out later today that will address a few PC-specific things that have come up. Can't give you any details yet beyond that as far as what else might be in the works for any of the three platforms.

im wondering if the talon mercs only come after you if you don't blow up megaton. i found a note on one of their bodies about showing me not to mess with tenpenny, and it was signed "B"

http://kotaku.com/5076026/trophy-support-coming-to-fallout-3-ps3

PlayStation 3-owning Fallout fans were a bit dismayed back in September when Bethesda's Pete Hines revealed that there were no plans to include trophy support for the game at launch, if at all. Between that and the PS3 version turning out to be the special screwed-up edition of the game, Sony owners were definitely not feeling the love, but relief is in sight! Speaking during one of Eurogamer's always informative Live Chat sessions, Hines confirmed that trophy support for the title was definitely on the way, although he didn't have an exact ETA. Considering the amount of choice available to Fallout 3 players, I wouldn't worry about having to go back through and play again..I've already completed two more games since my review last week.

While there is still no news on console fixes, the PC version will be getting a patch today to deal with some PC-specific issues. Hopefully they'll take care of the dreadful V.A.T.S. slowdown I've been experiencing on the platform. Fingers crossed.

The Rock-It Launcher is not really something you use for pure effectiveness. It's just for fun. You can go through most of the game doing nothing but shotgunning people in the face point-blank, but where's the fun in that? I vary it up often. I'm always getting encumbered because I carry several different weapons around with me at all times.

On another note, the NPC follower A.I. is pretty fucking cool. I have Jericho's tactics at long-range (instead of melee), and I gave him the Flamer recently and a bunch of ammo for it. When he's at a distance and out of range to use the Flamer, he'll actually pull out his default Chinese Assault Rifle while shooting at the enemy and steadily coming towards them, and when he's close enough he automatically pulls out the (more powerful) Flamer and starts toasting the enemy with it.

Since he equips whatever you give him that's strongest, I was fully expecting him to just equip the Flamer at all times and just try to get close enough to the enemy to use it in every fight, not to pepper the enemy first at long-range with the assault rifle before coming in and finishing them off with the Flamer. Just too awesome.

I believe that's the reason for it.
Burke even threatens you if you say you won't do it. Can you find Burke after that all goes down? I haven't seen him and I'd like to shoot him in the head.

Dude, just like a page or two back there was a big to-do about someone talking about that, even in spoiler tags. I don't care, as I'm past that point, but I'd advise removing it, or get ready for the flames.

Edit: My spoiler tag in the quote does not contain the spoiler. It's just there for fun.

Ha.

I just highlighted Hootie's spoiler.

That.... was a mistake. People need to offer some context to their spoilers, though, seriously.

Megaton question:

What happens if you nuke it before you do any quests? Did I kill my game lol?
It says to hunt for info, but I've been playing for quite sometime and have no idea where to go next.

This game is starting to irritate me a bit. I have no money, die all the time, there's no sprint button, and I cannot find a fucking place to sleep. Halp?

I'm not really a trophy whore

Replaying GTAIV for trophies, I suck

but my biggest fear was sinking lots of hours into the game and Bethesda releasing non-retroactive trophy patch the day after I beat the game.

If I'm gonna sink that much time into an RPG I might as well get some trophies for my troubles :D

Props to Bethesda for doing this !

I'm not sure what here needs to be tagged, so I'll start by saying you are going to be fine.
You can really blunder into the quest line at any of it's points. And I'm sure once you get to Tenpenney Tower you'll be able to pick up the trail. I don't know that for certain, though, as I just blundered into the quest line.

The bodies disappear if you leave the area I'm afraid, or did for me anyway, though I didn't leave anyone alive so someone might still be standing if you did, doubt it though.

Check the room that has a table with some Chinese operative stash on it, in the back room I found two troopers that didn't trigger if I just ran past it, one of them a Tesla trooper.

*Also just to note, loot stays if you take it off the dead body and drop it on the ground, that's how I got to keep mine.

Find Arafu. There is a free bed there. Use the quest given out by Lucy West to get there. Money will come. And try to use Melee attacks until you build up an ammo stockpile. Or, you could use the book quest that takes you to the supermarket to get some ammo. It's a bit dangerous, but well worth the trouble.

It just adds 1 hp per piece of food. I didn't find the weight/payoff ratio very valuable.

Hmm, well, I murdered that
Burke
guy straight away after
detonating the bomb
, and the only other quest is the Tenpenny Tower
ghoul quest
. After I completed that I didn't find anything there related to the main quest.

Not sure what to do but continue to roam the world, murdering all who cross my miserable path. :(

I'm a desperate man at the end of my pitiful rope.

Oh there's a bed there? I already finished that quest. Thank you that's good to know.

Gaf help!

Finally got the game yesterday, but somehow it's quite not love at first sight.
Vault 101 impressions:
Robotic npc movement. dialogue choices/quality 2nd rate compared to ME. 3rd person view floaty weird.
Still, the game is very impressive, especially in the way the narrative is told.
I need some serious help though!

1. Can you guys tell me what points or perks I should focus on for being a sniper?

1.5 Where can i find the first sniper weapon?

2. Lockpicking or Hacking? Do both or is one much better than the other?

3. In Vault 101, I was already slow from carrying too much crap. I even took the toaster because I'm a hoarder. Is carrying stuff worth it? Should I just focus on guns and armor? Please give me some advice here, or else I'm going to be walking slow forever.

4. If you drop stuff in a location, like in a room, will it still be there later?

5. Is mechanics worth it for keeping your gear up?

6. If I take points away from luck, does that decrease my shooting accuracy or is it just for critical hits? I'm tempted to keep this low to heighten my other stats.

sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm the only one out of all my gamer friends that play these types of games so I can't ask them. Playing Fable 2 was so ronery lol.

The only thing I can truly say is be an opportunist hunter. I would pick up everything and sell it (should have named my character "tin can"). Sleeping well find a place you can sleep and make sure you kill all the enemies around it and just remember where it was. I would just quick port back (if possible)and just try to sleep. If I got the message about enemies I would do another sweep and then go back and rest.

Small arms and sneak. The perks will be obvious.
1.5 Where can i find the first sniper weapon?
Minefield, but get the hunting rifle first. There's one in Lucas Simms' house.

2. Lockpicking or Hacking? Do both or is one much better than the other?
I've found Lockpicks to be much more useful

3. In Vault 101, I was already slow from carrying too much crap. I even took the toaster because I'm a hoarder. Is carrying stuff worth it? Should I just focus on guns and armor? Please give me some advice here, or else I'm going to be walking slow forever.
Carry what you can that selsl well, and then sell it when you get back to the town. Don't take everything. Most of it is just decoration

4. If you drop stuff in a location, like in a room, will it still be there later?
It might or it might not, but if you get a house, it'll always be there

5. Is mechanics worth it for keeping your gear up?
Repair is very useful

6. If I take points away from luck, does that decrease my shooting accuracy or is it just for critical hits? I'm tempted to keep this low to heighten my other stats.
Mostly, it is for crits, which is really useful when sniping.

So I got a copy of this game, it's still shrink-wrapped... I'll be returning Far Cry 2 for disc errors if I can... I already exchanged it once...

As soon as I start the game, what stats/attributes should I focus on and what tips can you give me regarding in general?

THANKS! Yes that helps a lot. I have a save right before leaving the vault,
and since I didn't go much farther than the first town, I won't be missing much.

So for a self-sufficient sniper build..

Put points in Small Arms(for sniper weapons), Sneak, and Lockpicking(Mechanics if possible), right? Sounds good.

Wow, I didn't know you could own anything, that sounds great!
