The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Fallout 3 is fast becoming one of my favorite RPGs ever. And I'm generally a JRPG fan. I kind of wish Mass Effect was as extensive.

So last night I made my way East of Megaton in search of GNR Station thanks to the fact that I decided to take the bad route and blew up Megaton. I knew where to go because I decided to start over after I got to Level 9 on my first game.
Knowing to get the Ghoul Mask very early in the game makes it so much easier to wade through Ghoul infested areas later on. Saves so much ammo.
:D

Anyway, as I made my way across a ravine, three Mirelurks popped out of the water and started chasing me. I ran past a Centaur as well and then went into a building that happened to be Dukov's place.
When I entered, Dukov opened fired on me and his two girls ran for cover. I thought what the hell? I turned and saw the Mirelurks appear right beside me and then realized he was shooting at them. I knew NPCs could go into buildings, but was totally caught off guard when those three Mirelurks and the Centaur entered Dukov's place. I sat back and watched as the Mirelurks attacked and killed Dukov before I cleared the place out.
But that was just incredible. Just thought I'd share that.

That's pretty awesome. Dukov's kind of a douche anyway. I can't believe that I have gotten so wrapped up in this game. I've got almost 70 hours logged and I'm still on my first character/first playthrough. Whenever I set off for some location I always get sidetracked.. It takes me hours to get anywhere unless I fast travel lol.

Question, though. I had Charon as my companion when
I got caught by the Enclave. When I came to inside Raven Rock he was obviously no longer with me.
Is he gone for good or is he just going to be chilling at the ninth circle again? Also, can you have more than one companion? Fawkes is around now, but I sure wouldn't mind having another gun behind me!

Quick question.

I just got the PC version, and I've heard that getting the latest patch really screws things up. This is the non-steam version. Is there any truth to this? Should I wait for the next patch?

anyone?

So the main quest ended kind of abruptly. What the hell happened? I was assuming there would be a romp through Paradise Falls, as I found that place ages ago but left it alone so it would be untouched when the main quest led me there.

I had a pretty funny thing happen in the beginning of this quest. I accepted the quest and when I got outside this dude named Ronald (or Roland) came to me with a proposition. Me being a female character with the Black Widow perk, I could get Roland to find Quantums for me, him being under the impression we'd do a threesome after he got the stuff :lol

So first thing he did after agreeing was running to the factory like an idiot only for me to see him get mauled by a Giant Radscorpion not 50 meters away.

Obviously I looted his corpse for an awesome shotgun.
I did the exact same thing, except the guy actually made it to the Nuka Cola Factory in my game. Found his corpse inside :D. His shotgun is pretty powerful but I just hate the sawed-off ones due to the constant reloading. Switched back to a regular combat shotgun shortly after I got it.

Gaf where the fuck do I go when researching the book to get
radiated?

I need 200-600
rads.

EDIT: Found it. Seriously? That's what I had to do? :lol

Just stand in the puddle in Megaton where the unexploded bomb is and start drinking the water. You'll get to 600 fast enough.

Frigging Memorial
to get the declaration of Independance is hard as heck at level 12 hehe,so I left there but at least now I have someone with me other then Dogmeat to do other stuff...Jericho hates my guts,I have too much Karma hehe
....still tons of fun though...

After venturing into Dunwich Building yesterday, I can now confirm that the place is creepy as fuck.

Easily tied with Vault 106 for creepiest experience in Fallout 3 for me.

What's with the part in there when you get a flash of a pre-war imagery right before you encounter the glowing one?

Couple new nice screenies:

So last night with the NXE, played the game on the hard drive for an hour or so.

Found the GNR Radio Station, the part after you pass the underground subway was actually fun with
the Brotherhood of Steel shooting laser at all the Super Mutants and I'm just there following them, picking up loot from the dead bodies whee. Then we reach the station, one of those giant super mutant boss(?) appear, used the mini nuke twice and down he goes. met Three Dog and completed the "Following His Footsteps" mission which opened up the next one.
Despite the qualms I have about the game, yep, I knew I'd be back into the game...

So, all that hard work on killing the Ant Queen paid off. I gave the pheremones ot Angela in Rivet City and that was enough to woo her future spouse. I got to attend the ceremony! It was awesome. I took pictures

Here's the father before the ceremony. He's losing an acolyte, but that's no problem.

The room is beginning to fill up.

SHHH! It's about to begin!

Father is so proud, he's literally walking on air!

Diego said 'I DO!'

It's official! YES!

After that there was a brief period of them walking out and everybody stood up at the same time and started talking with each other. Kinda creepy.

610lbs? Are you cheating?
I'm indulging my packrat habits... (A mod that weights STR more towards carrying capacity)
With 8000 caps anyway it's just my need to pick up stuff.

Besides that everything on there is good. Hit 19, and by golly there is a TON of sniper ammo around the capital.
There's another mod for item descriptions as well.

Wow, I had no idea you could take it one step further with that. I would of done the same but that was my first dungeon so I barely had enough supplies to kill
the queen's guards

The amount of depth in every little thing in Fallout 3 is amazing. You just have to dig a little deeper and every time it will reward you with something fucking awesome.

Although the ant might perk was nice. :D

I've put a good 18 hours into this game over the past three days. So easy to get sidetracked; I set off looking for the radio station yesterday and ended up spending hours dealing with fire ants. The combat...oooh the combat. I came across a term of about four mercs at one point who charged right at me, took my health right down. I quickly pegged about four grenades at them and sent the fuckers running. Then I hunted the two survivors down. Then straight after that I got into this long range shootout with a raider. Fuck the combat is just so amazing.

You don't actually need to
kill the queen in order to get them to marry. You can buy the ant pheromone from a merchant in Rivet City for like 100 caps.

I think my favorite part of Fallout 3 is doing a quest and then realizing just how many alternate ways you could have gone about accomplishing the same goal. It really is mindblowing sometimes to see a different method you could have used after the fact.

I don't know where Charon went, but I can say that you CAN have two partners at the same time. I had Fawkes before I ever met Charon and was able to get Charon to follow me along with Fawkes.

SWEET. That sumbitch better not be dead!

Also, is there any explanation as to why my lockpick skill is at 100 and when I attempt to pick a 'very hard' lock, an exclaimer pops up telling me 'I need a lockpick skill of 100'. Makes no sense.

Perhaps >100, not >= 100?

I love this fucking game. The mods that will inevitably come out to tweak the minor annoyances I have with the UI will make it absolutely perfect.

Is there any form of mouse smoothing in the game?

Is it possible it's only 100 because of a hat or something boosting your Perception stat? Just my unsubstantiated guess, I'm not sure why.

Edit: Oh and a patch is incoming for all versions. No idea when or what it will fix though. I hope that T-B1 whatever Power Armor can be repaired and followers can come back to life. I've already gone through Charon, Dogmeat and Clover. :lol

Can someone help me out real quick? I just installed Fallout 3 for my PC and was wondering if I should use my 360 controller for it. I'm much better at PC aiming, but I love the 360 controller. So it boils down to what is better: Free aim, or the turn-based one?

It can't be that since my lockpick skill is 96 and I can lockpick very hard locks when I wear a buffed item of clothing.

Overall? free aiming, but it's best to use both, I usually open up with VATS and then move on to free aiming while I recover AP.

Quick question:

I'm at the
bomb warehouse
by
Fort Constantine
and was wondering where the key may be to the only locked door in the structure? I found
nuclear codes
in a nearby house and think the two may be connected.

Wow, this game is sweet so far. I never played a Fallout game before, but I really like Oblivion. This is so fun.

Anyone know where to sell the

of the baddies when I get the perk?

You go to the
Regulator HQ. It should be an unexplored point on your map once you get the perk, showing up somewhere in the northeast quadrant of the map.

I've been all around the GNR marker on the map but I've yet to find the station. What am I doing wrong?

if you're lost, try look for the local map than the world map. it's so much detailed and much easier to follow.

I'm at 50 hours of this, and I've still to make a single main quest! I don't want this to end... :D I'm having lot's of fun with side quests. I'm at lvl15 atm

Another story from the wasteland...

I went to the small town to start the Nuka-Cola Challenge and started talking to the guy that was there. He starts talking about "plowing her fields" in regard to do the nasty with the spaced-out chick living next door. Well since my character is a chick and I gave her the "Black Widow" perk, I had interesting conversation choices. After he asked me to give the Kola bottles to him, I suggested that if he brought them to me, we could have a three-way! :lol Well, he bolted...took off running. I couldn't catch up to him.

After finally making my way to the Kola factory I found him there...dead by the door. LOL

I last updated last weekend - there was only one patch available on the bethsoft website; and it actually fixed some random crashes I was having.

Is there a new one out?

Okay so...I'm kinda struggling in this game. Basically I hated Oblivion and I'm not really gelling well with this one either. I'm at Megaton, doing side-quests. Got myself an alien blaster, but I have virtually no caps and my other guns are in need of repairs (guess what, no money to repair them) and yeah....

I hate this game.
