The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

I know it was for balance but I really wish the level cap was higher. I'm not really one for different play throughs and I'm attatched to my character. Have lots f stuff still to do but I miss the xp too. Oh and the 20>>>>>>>>21 on the load screens is such a tease.

lol I was wondering about that too

I finished the game a couple of days ago, and I agree about the ending - what a frickin' disappointment. Otherwise the game was absolutely magnificent - GOTY easily - but the ending came way too suddenly.

I'm going to start a second play-through sometime soon, and be as evil as I can be.

agreed. And besides, it doesn't really matter. It's not as obvious as it was in Oblivion, but the game still levels up with you(and I still don't like that concept at all). So when you were level 5 you were shooting at a rabid dog with a hunting rifle and when you were at level 15 you were shooting the Yao Guai with the plasma rifle... would those same people complaining about the level cap really be delighted to be shooting a Deathclaw with a Gatling laser minigun at level 25 or something? The game levels with you, it's all irrelevant, mildly challenging combat. :lol

It doesn't level with you, when you've visited an area once the level is set. At least that's what the devs stated.

Knowing what I was doing my second time through, my second character is WAY stronger then my first character. When the DLC comes out, I don't think I can go back to my first character.

I'm tempted to play through once again. Next time I'll be staying far away from the XP booster perks.

ammo is still a bitch to come by and I'm hanging on ever bullet I got
and I'm at the point in the game where I just talked to Dr. Li about dads location

am I doing something wrong?

What weapons are you using? Try and use as many as you can so that you can be more flexiable. Also don't waste ammo on low level loser enemies if you can just use a melee weapon to beat them up. There are certian perks and items that will stop different types of enemies attacking you which will also save you ammo.

Just got the
lincon repeater which is awesome! However that lincon quest has bugged on me I did all the things and cleared the statue of slavers but the anti slavery group hasn't arrived I read online that this quest is a bit buggy which is really annoying. Also did anyone else find the vault with the white noise to make super humans thing really sick! I felt so sorry for the people in there being driven insane. The vault with the gary clones on the other hand was hillarious "Gary" "Gary" hahaha.

Hah...ammo.

I have so much goddamned ammo it isn't even funny. 3000 rounds for the assault rifle, 2000 rounds for the 10mm guns, 500 shotgun shells, 400 .32 rounds, 350 .44 rounds, 75 missles, 22 mini nukes.

I'm running out of shit to kill. No more missions, level cap'd at 20....=(

Anyone have some neat ideas on what I can do?

Ammo is kinda hard to come by. But not if you take the Scrounger perk. Also, saying where you are in the main story doesn't say much about how long you've played. I didn't start that quest until more than 20 hours in.

I don't have the scrounger perk and I'm swimming in so much ammo that I don't know what to do with. Wierd.

Unused ammo can get you some good money too when you have thousands for weapons you don't even use.

Play through again or wait for DLC and mods.

Also try to kill everyone in each town until only you remain

You plug it in?

Seriously that's it. :lol

All the buttons should mapped exactly like the 360 version of FO3.
Plug and play for GRID, Mercs 2, and DMC4 so I can't imagine FO3 wouldn't.

Ah I've never played controller on PC before. Glad to know its that simple

Finally got around to beating the game. I have a feeling I would have been a lot more disappointed if you guys hadn't hammered that point so much. The final moments of the ending were extremely weak, but I actually did feel the lead up to it was cool. I probably wouldn't want to play that section again, but...

I'm about 12 hours in

The level cap of twenty is fine, but the character just levels way too quickly.
I never got to 20 in the previous fallouts.

Well I have the 360 version so no mods. Can't wait for the DLC, though. Especially the Alaska one :D

Anyway, killing everyone sounds fun, but after that there really won't be anything left to do. Plus Harken is invincible even after doing the quest he's involved with.

Yeah, once I hit level 15 I tried very hard to keep from doing too much (like hacking computers and picking locks) to prevent leveling every half hour or so.

Yeah, I think that's the problem.

I know it's supposed to encourage multiple playthroughs with different characters, but why should I start a completely new game when I still have half the map and even more quests to explore when my first character hit 20?

Along with the ending probably this game's biggest fault.

Yep, the level cap of 20 would be fine if you just levelled up slower. It felt like I leveled up faster and faster the closer I got to 20, which is the exact opposite of what it should be like.

My internet connection is broken right now (posting from another computer), which makes me unable to connect to GFW, which for some reason makes me unable to load my saved games, so while I try to fix my connection I'm going to take a break from the game and hope that a "real" level cap mod comes out soon. I just have way too much shit left to do to be stuck at 20.

I felt the same way, but as I posted above, the perk is your second character will likely be MUCH stronger then your first. I actually recommend playing good the first time through, so you'll be moderately strong (which fits the story pretty well) while being evil and super strong the second time.

My bigger gripe is with the party NPCs; each one (I've had) has some sort of issue (except Star Paladin Cross, who just sucks). Dogmeat dies so easily and has trouble following you; Fawkes blocks doors; Charon vanished on me for some reason and died (I almost wonder if it wasn't a bug and he bailed on me); and Clover disappears sometimes or falls really far behind, like Dogmeat.

You should have a MyGames>Fallout 3>[Username] folder where your saves are stored. Just copy your save from the [Username] folder up a directory into the Fallout 3 folder. It'll show up in the menu then when you're not signed in to Live.

You also don't need an internet connection to be 'signed in' to GfW Live; I disconnect my laptop from the network before booting up Vista and it signs me in to GfW Live every time I start Fallout 3 without fail.

Can one hate oblivion and love fallout 3?

I tried to love Oblivion, just rented Fallout 3 tonight (Left4Dead, Legendary, ..even Wii Music was all rented out at Blockbuster.. had to find something to get the nasty taste of Gears 2 out my mouth), damn I'm glad I decided to give this game a try. I don't remember the last non-pick-up-and-play-multiplayer game I have played. I am soooooo glad I didn't let the Oblivion connection get to me, so far really enjoying this game (being good/following the quest). I already can't wait for my second playthrough with so many little choices affecting everything.

Got rid of the last Behemoth yesterday, really fun taking them down, especially if you've got the Fatman.

Wish there was more of them to fight. :(

If you hit level 20 can you still do the "Here and Now Perk" to hit level 21 or at least get the benefits of leveling-up?

That seems wrong. I got attacked by a pack of 4 or 5 Deathclaws just outside Vault 101 yesterday.

I noticed those things roam more as you level up. But individual baddies do not level up with you. If anything, as you level up the roam paths of the high level baddies open up so encounters are more prevalent.

On my first playthrough, one of the first places I went was the grocery store near megaton where there are about a half dozen raiders. It was quite tough, as I only had a crappy gun. Then on my second playthrough I went to the same place when I was level 14 and I cleared it out in 1 minute with a combat shotgun.

I'm playing through again (on PC this time, so I can cheat.)

I got the power armor, but I noticed no one treats me different... kinda breaks down the 4th wall when people know I'm just a vault girl under all that armor.

Thats something I notice as well, they dont really react differently to any armor in my experience. Raiders shoot at me even with raider armor and so forth. This is something that would make it far more immersive and far more important in choices of armor and what to carry as spare suits.

While I agree completely, some armor does affect Charisma.

Just beat the game. Thanks for the warning about the ending: shit is weak and slightly maddening.
I had 90% RAD resistance and used Radaway to no end. You'd hope it would recognize this, and shift the ending. Or, y'know, Fawkes could've simply done it. Meh. Overview was weak.

But everything leading up to it - yowza :D

i didn't think the ending was bad at all. i can't remember the last time a game had an ending that blew me away anyway; at least fallout 3 had a sequence leading up to the finale that was completely absurd and hilarious. i've already mentioned it once, but "DEMOCRACY IS NOT NEGOTIABLE" had me cracking up.

the only change i would have made to what happened in those last ten minutes is to have more build-up to that sequence. once you trigger that final leg of the story mode, it's maybe ten minutes until the credits roll, which does seem a little rushed.

but fallout 3 was about the journey for me, not the destination. the first game in aaaaaaages that held my attention for 60+ hours.

Will I know when I'm closing of finishing? I've just gotten into
lamplight to find a way into vault 87(I think thats it).
. I don't want to keep going and end it before I've explored everything.

ICallItFutile said:

But only overall Charisma. What they should introduce (since factions are already in) is faction rep/charisma much like the Ghoul mask. So the idea is there, and its doable, just not implemented widely.

Or
at least have gone in with you and pulled you out.

After nearly a hundred hours over various characters, I finally decided to make the long march to beat the final bit of the main quest... and the game hard crashed on me. I guess it doesn't want to see the end either.

Just got the game for 360. I escaped the vault and now am on the surface. I'm a little overwhelmed by everything. Unlike Oblivion, where the first town is right next to the cave exit, I'm staring at a vaste wasteland.

I hiked around a bit and encountered some bandits on a bridge. I plowed through them and was rewarded with a flamethrower. Then I went to Springvale, toured the school (creepy) and met a former prositute who, unfortunately, no longer offers her services.

Really liking it so far.

Heh. Then you may have missed a town that is effectively right in front of the vault. Doesn't matter, you'll find it.

Damn, really? I just did the bit where (big spoiler)
President Eden ends up blowing the base up

So, am I done?
return to the brotherhood and thats it?? I just got fawkes! :(

And just to confirm you can't keep playing after the main story, right?

Yep, you can't keep going after the main story, but
the cutoff point is barely seconds before the very end. You may as well finish it up now and make sure you have the autosave turned on; another half hour of pure main story and you'll have it done, if that.

My FO3 adventures this weekend..."TROIDAL GOES MERCENARY!"

The last time I was in
Canterbury Commons
, so I went north traversing the map. My first stop was that place with the
head of the Lincoln Memorial?
They basically wouldn't let me out the place until
I pledge allegiance
. I decide to just kill em all!

So I continue north, I end up in this power grid station (forgot the name) but I hacked the computer terminal which turned on the power to something. What is it for?

Next, I ended up in
Republic of Dave
, some crazy guy
who calls himself President Dave wtf
I shot him in the head with a shotgun and of course, everyone ends up attacking me but only one man was standing hehe. However, my karma dropped and I became neutral :lol I level up and decide to get the perk that adds +30 to Speech when karma is neutral.

My final stop for the weekend was
in this place called Oasis
. I decide to
kill Bob by killing his heart, as he requested and that was that.

So...other than the last one, I just went the "Kill em all" route, and probably losing my opportunity to complete those missions. Curious, what was the correct/good way to finish those missions?

Hehe, yeah, found it :D

After I left the vault for the first time I turned immediately right, up the hill, and across the old highway/bridge.
