The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

How does the DLC start? Is it like the last one, with a radio trasmission?

Yeah it's a radio transmission, though you don't actually have to tune to it. There will be a marker on your map that shows where you gotta go. It's in the north west of the map near some power station...I think it's near where ravenrock was. Luckily I've explored the whole map so I could just fast travel to the area.

You can't take fawkes though, he goes back to the museum of history.

Is there any way to go back to get that bobblehead in vault 101?

Also, does all the DLC use the Pip-Boy?
Also, is there a way to temporarily get my Science skill to at least 50 (from 23) using chems or apparel in some way?

I don't think you can go back in for the boblehead as it's in a flashback/past time of the story.

I not been able to play the game for a while due to heavy workload but i'd like to ask if the DLC so far is worth it just for the new guns in the main game? I dislike what I seen of the content so far.

The Lamonster:

There's an optional sidequest which has you re-enter Vault 101 (you get a distress call when you're around Megaton asking for help in the Vault). If you already completed that quest and didn't pick up the Bobblehead then there's no other way of getting it (other than by inputting codes on PC version).

Does anyone know if I can go back to the default Fallout 3 textures after installing the high res pack without having to reinstall? I don't feel like having to redo everything just to get a stable framerate :(

what i usually do is just wipe the entire textures folder in the data directory (since all of the base textures fallout needs are in the .bsa files anyways, and the only folders there on a clean install are the video, shaders, and music folders........, texture, meshes, sounds, menu, etc are all created as overrides for whatever is in the base .bsa files in the main data folder, when you install a mod that changes the original file in the bsa). However if you installed any other mods then deleting that would delete those mods textures also, so i would take the installer, or archive that the texture replacement came in and make a note of what folders it created like data/textures/highreslol/ or something and delete only those folders specific to it in the fallout 3/data/textures directory.

Btw is there any way to keep all your weapons and go in guns blazing? I made it all the way thru the gate but then these idiots stab me in my power armor and I lose my shit...wtf?

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/The_Pitt_(DLC)#Notes

If you drop your equipment before the raider at the gate takes it from you, he will not pick it up. It is then possible for you to take any and all of your equipment in to the Pitt, as long as it is inside of the gate when it closes.

Does anyone know what happens if I delete Operation Anchorage and redownload it? I doubt I'd keep the weapons and armor. Would there be any other ramifications?

Uh I did that dude and when I tried to load a save it says something like the content for this save is no longer present. I didn't try it I just redownloaded OA before I played. I'm guessing it's a problem since you get the gauss rifle and armor.

edit--thanks MrTroubleMaker

Thank you sir. Anybody know how I can attain this mission without just waiting around for it?

Yeah its all about you just picking up the radio signal coming from the vault. As is the case with all other radio signal based quests all you have to do is walk in the vicinity of the vault. Youll pick up the signal and after you listen to it youll have a new quest.

(its awesome too)

The Lamonster said:

It shows up after getting so far into the main questline (specifically after completing
The Waters of Life
quest (spoilered quest title just in case, though it doesn't reveal anything really)). After that point, you just go anywhere near Vault 101 and you'll pick up the transmission.

FUCK BETHESDA IN THE ASS FOR making me wait another month to play this!
Stupidest thing ever to make the level cap higher in the (3rd) DLC seriously it makes noo sense!
Love this game though, just wish I could play it, I know I could but I'm a one character one time through guy. Soo, have fun guys seen you next month.

I made a new character and decided to play evil this time. Anyway, fuck it. I can't believe I said RE5 was the game of the generation.

This is.

My favorite game of all time. By far. I don't think I'll never have more fun with any other games. Anyway, I'll get the expansions when they are all out. No need to get them right now for me.

Anyway, I hope there's more than Broken Steel. I want more! I could keep playing this game forever.

Yeah I hadn't played fallout in weeks and when I fired it up for the pitt I forgot how fun it can be. VATS is just so awesome...takes the best parts of turn based combat and makes it pure win.

My first character was 100 hours.

This next one is up to 20.

I'm still heavily addicted to this game.

That says a lot.

Is The Pitt very linear?

Yes, though it's more open than Anchorage and it allows you to side with each faction too. You can come back to "The Pitt" after you've completed it for all the stuff(a new power armor to your inventory and some other stuff), and I hope they expand further on it because I really enjoyed the setting.

Stayed up until 1am this morning getting 100/100 steel ingots. I got to 99/100 and it took 15 minutes or more of searching before finding the one I missed.

Really, really love the level design of The Pitt. The approach to the city, the way the outside area with the new enemies is structured, just everything really. I'm lovin' it.

How hard is it to find the 100 ingots?

Also, I wasn't intending to buy the Anchorage DLC but I just saw pics of the Chinese Stealth Suit online. Holy fucking shit, that is one badass looking armour. But goddamn, 800 points just for an armour (and a cool sword and gun)? Yeah, I know it has a whole quest and all that crap but I'm a loot whore and I don't give two shits about the Anchorage quest after reading about it so if I were to pay for it, it would be almost entirely for the items you get.

There is also a reward for finding all 10 intel suitcases.

Covert Ops perk: +3 to Small Guns, Lockpick, and Science.

All that said, and as good as The Pitt looks, I'm not touching the DLC until my two 20th level characters can earn XP going through them.

EDIT: updated the reward.

It wasn't that hard, just a little time consuming.

Dude, if the Anchorage weapons and armor get you horny, wait until you see what you get for turning in the ingots! Every 10 you turn in to the quest-giver nets you a killer weapon or armor suit. Some of the armor you get initially is kinda meh, now that I think about it, but the final reward for turning in all 100 is bad ass shit. Also the weapons are pretty freakin' awesome, too.

So wait, the new gear from the DLC - does that become available to your main character instantly when you download it? Or is the new stuff just confined to the new characters?

ChrisGoldstein said:
Gamma Judy?

Hehehe! Yup. Gamma Judy is waiting in the wings along with her half brother Red Tyrant.

Judy is mostly good though she hates all ghouls and mutants. Red is an evil sonofabitch but doesn't discriminate against non-humans, who he sees as freak jobs, much like he sees himself.

The Pitt is going to be doubly great because Gamma Judy will side with the slaves as she did in the Capital Wasteland. Red on the other hand was a master slaver and is eager for new livestock to bring to market. :D

The new gear in either DLC is available to any character you have, newly created or already existing, of any level.

I'm incredibly frustrated. I downloaded the DLC today, it's supposed to be fixed, and yet it crashes over and over at the exact same part, right after talking with Wherner. I haven't even left DC yet! ;iqdbvj;bnrjbnqerf;;werbbwf!!!!!

hmm you might have to load an earlier save. Also, I think the update makes the game run like shit if you have it installed to your hdd.

I had to delete it from my hard drive and run it off the disk just so it wouldn't stutter

I'll try that, I guess.

had no problem playing the game from my hdd after downloading the pitt

just found all 100 ingots.

Found 96 myself.. went to youtube to find the other 4.

Yeah, I'm hosed. I've tried HDD, Disc, and I backed up to the save before I encountered the radio signal. It still freezes every time I get halfway between Wherner and the slaver camp.

This absolutely sucks.

Correction: It crashes when I get anywhere near the northwest quadrant of the map now. This is such crap.

Actually, I've already seen (on GameFAQs and Fallout Wiki) what the Pitt DLC offers in terms of new equipment. Well, the silenced scoped assault rifle looks awesome but apart from that, meh. The Chinese Stealth Suit is what I really want. It just looks so different from everything else in the game and it looks so futuristic compared to everything else out there that it almost feels out-of-place.

try deleting your pitt download and redownloading it

Done that, still crashing. A quick peek at the Bethesda Forums shows multiple threads with the same complaint. Constant crashing in the northwest quadrant. No comment from Bethesda at all.

Having fixed that particular issue with the usual dose of save-game vigilance (hey, this is a Bethesda game), I was finally ready to enter the underground railroad, jump onto the handcart with Wernher and head down to the shattered remains of what once was Pittsburgh.

Yeah, yeah, I'd like to at least get some kind of response from them on the blog or forum acknowledging that they are working on it.

I'm clearly not the only one with this issue.

Yeah I know what you mean. It's really frustrating when there's no response from the devs on such game-breaking issues. A simple, "We've seen the posts and we're working on it" kind of message would be better than silence any time.

Wow that was awesome. I chose to:
side with Ashur, kill Wherner and become one of the thugs. Ironically, Ashur tells you afterwards that the baby changed his life and he is turning over a new leaf and will use the baby to recolonize the city with healthy humans, so the seemingly bad ending is a good one. What happens if you side with Wherner?

Also, I really love the writing and the dialogue. My favorite line
(I heard someone yell at me after the Arena) "Wow, you killed the shit out of Gruber!" Hah! Poor Gruber.

If you side with Wherner you let Trogs go into the uptown and kill everyone, then Midea ends up taking care of the baby...atleast the slaves are free now! :P

Need help, very start of Free Labor quest.
Where do i get my stuff? Has 2 objectives one is get my stuff, the other meet Ashur (leader whoever) but i cant find my stuff!

Finished the Pitt.

Bethesda seems to be missing the point -- Missing the fact that the capital wasteland is the star of Fallout 3. Unless they intend on crafting a seperate area that's as expansive and open as this, or even close, then don't bother. They'd be so much better served sprinkling new content into the existing land, new enemies, weapons, encounters, quests, locations, characters -- All of this would permanently enrich the FO3 gameplay experience, not just be a 3 hour distraction.

My problem with the Fallout 3 DLCs are that they are not catering to what makes the game attractive to begin with. They offer a 3 hour distraction in a seperate area, consisting of tiny little maps that connect to eachother in a very linear fashion -- The player is lead through these by the main quest -- And when it's over, it's over. The Pitt feels like a bad version of KOTOR or Mass Effect, since they use basically the same gameplay model, but don't do it as well. It's not doing what Bethesda games are loved for. It's simply not worth $10 and I regret paying.
