The Official Fallout 3 thread of post-apocalyptic proportions!

Anyone else have the problem where you alt-tab out and when you try to get back to the game, the window stays minimized? Also, is their a recommended level for Point Lookout? I heard it's pretty tough.

I reinstalled the game for PL and went in with a fresh character. Bad idea. Around 10 maybe? It's not really a level factor, as it is gear and supplies. I ran out of ammo quick, and my weapon broke.

I had the same prob with minimize. The only thing I could try(and haven't yet) is playing in window mode, which you could do at the same res as your desktop and see where it centers.

All I can say is check your cache integrity and stuff with steam. Sorry!

I love Fallout 3, but making money is so hard! Also, how do I enable my repair skills? What is the minimum I have to put in the stat repair (If there is any :lol)

You have to have two of the same item to repair one. You sacrifice the lower condition item to repair the better of the two.

That's my guess of what's happening to you.

You'll hit a point in the game where you have enough variety with weapons and armor. Early on while you're still in the Vault it is important to a) pick up items with a high Weight/Value ratio and b) grab any outfit that boosts a stat, skill or anything. The Vault is full of them.

EDIT: I'm at LVL 8 and I have lots of weapons.

Ahh, okay! I usually only pick up the ammo since I don't want to be overencumbered. Slow walking is slooooow.

I loaded the Steam version last week and had no problems whatsoever. I finished it and most side quests today and had a blast (on very hard). Completed it in like 35h. Even on very hard I found it too easy in the end btw, some of the weapons are just too powerful. Even though I had a great time, I definitly wont buy the DLC. 50 bucks for all the dlc is simply too much money for some added content I think.

To be fair, all the DLC combined is worth close to 25 hours of gameplay and has over 100 new weapons, armor, and items.

Really liked Point Lookout. Any other quests besides the moonshine one and the main storyline there?

the velvet curtain was probably my favorite of the side quests

PL is by far my favorite piece of DLC for this game

Just did Velvet and Blackouse. Both pretty good, I like how they maneged to make Dunwhich Building meaninful. Always thought that was underused in the main game.

I wish they'd do a proper horror DLC, or something that explains where the Supermutants are coming from now that the Master is dead.

I finished Fallout 3 months ago but sort of ignored the DLC but now I'm interested in playing them.

How exactly does it work? If I install the 4 DLC packs do I just get dumped into the Fallout 3 world and I have to go find the quests related to the individual DLC?

That's in the main quest.
The mutants are coming from Vault 87, where you first find Fawkes. They're infecting people with the mutagenic virus. Fawkes still has the remains of his Vault jumpsuit on.

Yes. With the exception of Broken Steel, which picks up right after the game's original ending, you'll get messages and radio broadcasts alerting you of the new quests from the other DLC as soon as you start up the game.

Thanks. If you install Broken Steel do you gain level only in the Broken Steel quest or can you gain levels in any part of the game?

By gain levels I mean go past the original level cap that was in Fallout 3.

Any tips for a quick way to hack 50 terminals pretty fast ?

And about Mothership Zeta, I guess the ship is really HUGE to set an entire DLC in it. I also hope it's kindoff open (like a city in the ship, in a ZOE/Halo way) because if It's linear, the gameplay might look like Anchorage and utterly suck.

are the ones in the museum of history locked? I think it has a lot of them.

Other than that most of the factory areas and cities have a lot

Broken Steel is the only DLC that offers the increased level cap. So if this game is something you're looking forward to dumping several more hours in, then that should be your first purchase.

Once you have Broken Steel installed, then the 10 extra levels will be enabled when you start the game.

You'll gain experience no matter where you are if you have Broken Steel installed. It doesn't have to be specific quests from Broken Steel.

I misspoke. I meant to ask if I buy all the DLC packs including broken steel can I then level up past 20 in any of the DLC packs or by completing quests I never finished in the main game or does all the leveling past 20 have to be done in Broken Steel DLC only?

Thanks. That's what I was asking but phrased the question poorly.

Yep, as soon as you download Broken Steel the cap is raised and you gain exp no matter what content you're doing.

No, once you dl Broken Steel you'll be able to level anywhere. In any of the other DLCs if you want.

No problem. I made the mistake of doing every side quest I could find before I actually installed Broken Steel. Soooo much wasted experience that I could have used to level to 30.

You'll still hit 30 easily. You didn't make a mistake.

Fortunately I only finished the orignal game at level 18. I also wouldn't have liked to spend time finishing quests and not having it count which is part of why I waited on the DLC. The other part being I didn't like how the DLC was handled with the ending but that seems to be resolved because of Broken Steel.

There's more reasons to play than just exp, but either way, you get a lot of good content now. You'll hit the cap again before you finish it all depending on your play style.

I'm old school. I tend to need the stick and the carrot. ;)

I'm pretty conservative and not overly a do it all type gamer also although Fallout 3 was such an enjoyable game I did a bit more than I usually do in these style of games.

Downloaded Broken Steel (only dlc I've gotten) and levelled to 20 at Project Purity :D.
Played through it in about 3/4 hours, was happy (the weapon is... fun).
Very shooty, I think without Fawkes I would have been frustrated (he chows them down while I get sneak attack criticals).

Mothership Zeta looks to be fun. Can't wait for all the new armor and guns from that one. They should go out BIG since it might be the last Fallout 3 DLC for a good long while.

It being in Space is a great start.

It will hopefully make up for the crappy weapons in Point Lookout, but unfortunately, there won't be anything else to use the cool new gear on :/

I did hit 30, but I needed all of Broken Steel and some of The Pitt to do so. I did virtually every side quest before I installed BS, which didn't leave much left in terms of XP gains in the vanilla version.

I said mistake because the game was largely fun for me because of the leveling process. It's how I feel in most games that have a level up component. If I had installed BS prior to those quests, I could have reached my goal of level 30 much faster, rather than wasting my time.

OK, so I went back to the Statesman Hotel to get
the holotape from Sydney's dad
and saw here http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Statesman_Hotel#Trivia that there's meant to be a door like the one in The Shining. I swear I've been top to bottom in that hotel 4 or 5 times and I can't see it (weird how creepy it is when all the supermutants are dead and there's just the eerie music in the background), so has anyone else found it and knows the precise location?

Think I have gone crazy. Already have gotten all the achievements and 2 characters to lvl 30, but is playing the game again to try to get max skill char stats. Last character had 100 skills on everything except 95 explosive, 92 speech and 60 unarmed. Think I wasted at least 30 pts that could have been had with certain perks, lvling up attributes(almost perfect perk) and books. Anyone know for sure if having 100 skills for every skill is doable before I try again?

New character starting Attributes:
Str:2
Per:7
End:7
Cha:2
Int:8
Agi:7
Lck:7

When is the PS3 verison getting the DLC ?
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/07/13/fallout-3-downloadable-content-on-psn/

Late September, but we're getting Broken Steel first. It's probably worth it to just buy the GOTY version in October for $60 for the sake of having it on one disc, assuming it's compatible with the standalone version's save.

Edit: They confirmed in the comments that the saves will be compatible with the GOTY version, but Bethesda is infamous for bugs, so we'll see.

yes, you can get all skills to 100, it just relies on planning out how you use skill books, perks, and bobbleheads. You can get 60 additional points into every skill by getting the comprehension perk then finding every skill book and bobblehead.

It's not that hard with Broken Steel either, because of the Level 30 perk that raises all SPECIAL to 9 (giving a big boost to all skills). I ended up maxing all but 2 skills without any planning.

I bought all the DLC's and am now playing through them. Operation Achorage wasn't bad.

The main problem was I had forgotten so much since I haven't played the game since I beat it originally. I still would have preferred one big expansion pack style DLC with a connected story but you take what you get I suppose.

Shit, SEPTEMBER? Really?

.. I might as well stop playing it now and wait for the September PSN download. I don't know if I should wait for the GOTY edition, $60 bucks right there. Then again I only bought Fallout 3 for $25 almost new. :D

So when does Zeda come out? I got Point Lookout the day it released and it's been really great so far. Only played the first two missions (second one: WOW what a mind fuck) and then just stopped.

Actually, I'm not even done with Lookout and I'm already asking about Zeda. :lol Too DLC hungry.

September is kind of a nuts tentative release date for the DLC. I literally laughed out loud when they started spouting how it was taking them a long time because they had to test this and that. Uhh, how old is this game now?
