Please discuss the game here. There are new additions to the GBA game, and big spoilers in general, new and old, should be covered up with the spoiler tag.

I was just taking a shower and I was thinking of this game humming the boss theme music..
Cant wait.. getting the strategy guide too :)

(yes i was naked in the shower thinking of ff4.. you all do it too bitches)

Isnt it 34.99 in the US?

I wonder if PAL will adopt the same art that the JPN box has.. since we've used that from the beginning.

Well FFI & II are on GBA, FFIII will be on DS and V and VI are planned for GBA.. so yeah.

I don't know if I've said this already but I love the hell out of that US boxart. I can't wait for the FFV and FFVI ones.

Just buy them all for PS1. It would be cheaper.

I and II on Final Fantasy Origins: < $20
IV and Chrono Trigger on Final Fantasy Chronicles: < $20
V and VI on Final Fantasy Anthology: < $20

Or you could buy them all at the inflated cartridge prices. Your call.

nah, the PS1 versions are shit. horrible load times and there isn't anything added. go for the GBAs one. portable no load times plus shit added can't go wrong with that.

I can't believe NoA isn't taking initiative to try to bring the faceplate over here. Whether it's preorder, packed-in, or sold separately, COME ON DO IT.

Uhh.. handheld that goes around with me? Yea... that seems nice, at the same time they added a shit load of stuff to this 4 as opposed to the 4 on PSX including swappable end game parties and big ass new dungeons..

BTW: Anyone notice were getting titles before japan that you'd think would be out there before the US lately?

Mainly nintendo though

I just remember that loading was atrocious for Anthology. Although the redone CG stuff was pretty cool.

Handheld? Meh. Never owned one, never will.

Then why are you in this thread? Go play the inferior PSone version, if you're so inclined. Go on. Buzz off.

Because I'm playing FFIV for the first time right now on my PS2 and having a heck of a good time with it. Bite me.

But this is the Final Fantasy IV Advance Thread. Wrong game.

LOAD TIMES FOR THE WIN! :lol

Other than saving and loading to/from the memory card, I don't notice any load times at all. And those fifteen seconds are hardly worth crying about. I was merely trying to point out to one specific person regarding one specific post a cheap place to purchase the games now rather than waiting to spend more for another version later. But whatever, everyone should pay new game prices for 15 year old games. You've convinced me and everyone else.

I would pay it for the definite version of a classic.

I'd say the definitive version is the one with scrolling problems and a prehistoric CG intro. BUT THAT'S JUST MY OPINION THANKS FOR CONVINCING ME THAT I CAN HAVE A WAY BETTER VERSION FOR ONLY $10 MORE.

What would you like to be added for the next revision of this classic?
Personally, I was hoping for some voices, perhaps by the N-Sync guys.

Also, what about cel shaded 3d-graphics and revolution remote controlled action?
And you can't go wrong with a theme song by Madonna. I would like to be able to have your own picture replacing the character art as well.

Good point, Justin Timberlake would make an ideal Edge.

Seriously, though, hahahax, nobody cares about your bizarre opposition to Square adding new content to a 15-year-old game, so try not to let it clog up the thread, LEST YE BE BANNED.

Can't wait to play the F out of that S.

I might have to buy the LE version for that Micro/faceplate combo. It's too hot.

Is this based on the hard type script/gameplay from the PSOne Chronicles version? It would seem a natural choice, but you can never be sure...

Don't you dare blog it and make me have to buy one as a result. :D

Why hello there, fellow backset mod.

FFIV looks hot, even though I hate RPG's usually. :D

Anybody remember the WonderSwan?

It seemed like yesterday when the Nintendo prez put an embargo on Square's GBA development :lol

For me that feels like ancient history. :lol

OMG I THOUGHT IT WAS ON THE 19TH!!!!
XMAS COMES EARLY THIS YEAR

I'm so hyped about this one, specially after having played FFI (Dawn of Souls)

Way to go, Nintendo.

Keep financially supporting Square so they can put their bread + butter series on the Sony machines.
wtf? isn't Square Enix by releasing this game on GBA supporting Nintendo?

It wouldn't be the first time I hate john for buying flashy jap sh1t and posting it on his blog as if he had bought a bag of apples from the grocery store... :P

I think I said this to Bill at dinner in Seattle, but maybe I was drunk and forgot. Anyway we know from the Reirom fiasco that NOA's localization team reads GAF, so let me just say:

- The translation for Final Fantasy V SUCKS, and
- The translation for Final Fantasy VI is grammatically correct, but about two-thirds of the text had to be sliced out wholesale to make room.

Therefore if NOA does not arrange for complete overhauls of both games I will cry and write mean things about you in my lj :(

What translations are you referring to? PSX? SNES (FFVI)? fan translations?

Also, I'm still chewing over whether or not I should pay Play-Asia $195 for the LE Japanese pack. Maybe I should just buy it used when I go to Tokyo next year. Hopefully it won't be ridiculously expensive like the Final Fantasy Tactics SP that was only at 7-11...

...yeah, you heard me. I bought my GBA SP at Sevvies.

I preordered it.

but....I'm still a bit iffy with that dark blue micro. The faceplate is ace, but that color....mhhhmmm.... (-_-

wtf? isn't Square Enix by releasing this game on GBA supporting Nintendo?

Both. IIRC, Nintendo is handling the bulk of FF4 Advance. Square Enix gets to roll in royalty profits while Nintendo pretifies FF4 advance and gets a new, awesome game for the GBA to remind people that it isn't dead and gone yet.

Also, I hate the new music because I'm a nostalgia-ridden, "don't fuck with that shit" FF4 fanboy, but I'll buy it anyway and will hopefully like what they've done with it once I actually play it.

FFIV PSX had (virtually) no load times. FFV and VI had the load times. FFIV had bugs.

FF Anthology (FFV and VI) = One "new to America" game, and one "uncensored" (but not retranslated) game. Typical FF-on-PSX loading times for both.

FF Chronicles (FFIV and Chrono Trigger) = One "heavily uncensored" (but not retranslated) game, and one hard to find game with newly-added anime. Game-crashing bugs on the one, cripplingly bad loading times on the other.

FFIV Advance = Retranslated, refined, zero loading times, and hopefully no bugs this time.

FFIV PSX was completely retranslated...and what "game-crashing bugs" are you talking about?

I had no problems playing through the PSX version of FF4, aside from saving the game it was practically just like playing from the cartridge. The new translation was also far superior to the original SNES release of the game as FF2. I never bothered playing through Chronotrigger in that collection.

Playing the PSX versions of FF1 and FF2 is worth it for the music alone, IMO. The FFV and FFVI Anthology is pretty damn horrible though, the FFV translation is pretty damn bad and FFVI is painful to play at times. I'd rather emulate both.

Relax there, butterfly. They retranslated FF4 from scratch, and that one wasn't that bad to begin with. So logic would dictate that, hmm, if they're going to release FF5 and FF6 in North America as well, they're probably going to retranslate those too. No?

I mean it's not 100%, but I'd say it's very, very likely.
