Set your cellphone to ring/vibrate.

I can't tell you how many times I've started up GTA4, walked out of the room for a moment but left the DS3 on a table or something, then get the shit scared out of me when Niko gets a call and the DS3 vibrates around the table and falls off.

They certainly don't overuse it, but it's there.

This actually happened to me two times and both times it was scary as hell. Didn't help that it happened around 2am.

I finished the game a few days ago, but my percentage was 78% and 60 hours >.> How did people do it in less than 20-30? Given how long we had to wait for this game, the last thing that I wanted to do was end it in 2-3 days.

....was doing the mission
in the wherehouse, where you have to save Roman, and I finished everyone off. Upon escorting out of the first room, I walked past him, slightly nudging him to right and.....sent him plummeting to his death
....mission failed =/

....yeah, sometimes mid-mission checkpoints would be nice

Ignoring a good portion of the relationship crap, extra mission and obvious filler stuff, I clocked in at 34, although counting reloading stocked savegames a few times, ~40 hours. About 61% at completion. I could have definitely shaved off 5 or 6 hours not screwing around.

I made it to the end, got into the truck and then it blew up. Would have done the mission on my very first try if it wasn't for that.

yeah, I wasn't really annoyed by the lack of checkpoints if the failure was my own fault, but if one of your sidekicks dies in the most stupid way, jaargh

yeah, in the mission with
the drug sting operation including Playboy X,
, he ran in my line of fire and I nicked him in the leg...that didn't kill him though...He was on stairs, and the tumble down killed him =( ...kinda cool, but annoying at the same time, as I was at the end of that mission as well...

So yeah, pretty much the majority of the missions I've failed at this point is been because of completely random shit like this, or the controls/gameplay mechanics getting in the way IE, silly at times cover system, bad Bike handling, etc..

Finished up all the stunts and I'm now at 92,5% and have no idea how the stuff that I still have to do sum up to 100%. Will be interesting.

Oh and social club finally catched up a bit and shows my progress at 65%. Storygang unlocked! Yeah a leaderboard! Worth it!

So you can still play around in the city after you finish the story?

I'm still mad at my glitchy boat death at the end of "catch the wave".
Driving over islands shooting through warehouses, fighting of other boats and driving around yet another island and then Nico dies at the end because he can't jump out of a boat....:(

the social club is such a piece of shit

I've beaten the game since saturday and I still can't access the story tab, yet the stats in the Marathon section get updated pretty frequently

This whole socialclub.com thing is really starting to piss me off. Why the hell dont Rockstar communicate with their fans? As an example of the way it SHOULD be done, have a look at how Bungie does it: they have this awesome online integration with Halo 3 as well as a weekly update as well as news on their site as well as an occasional podcast.

We havent heard a fucking peep out of Rockstar though. Just one buggy as shit useless website that hasnt worked properly ever.

At least with an EA merger we'd be able to get to the bottom of such problems more quickly, I'd think.

You'd think they would have gotten a community manager and all that stuff now the game is online, that's the biggest shitter with Social Club imo, there's no Frankie saying "we know it's fucked, should be fixed *some time in the future*".

R* are definitely missing a trick in not having a centralised community.

My point exactly!

Rockstar are way too fucking arrogant to bother with that though. Theyre this mythical developer who puts a game out every 4 year. They dont do interviews - dont go to trade shows - dont interact with the media OR their fans.

And to whoever said socialclub has a delay, well for me its stuck on 3 zits from over a week ago. Ive zitted countless other songs.

So I haven't finished the game yet, but I remember a lot of the previews talked about missions where you'd be dangling from helicopters or rolling around on the back of a truck before making your way up to the cab and taking out the driver, Indiana Jones-style. I just unlocked the 3rd island and haven't come across any missions like these yet, did they get cut?

I was kinda curious to see how they'd handle GTA IV. Looks like nothing has changed.

Guess the hope for free DLC before the episodes is out of the question. :\

There are instances of this during the game... pretty much one of each, and they are really nothing special. As usual, previews focus on the highlights rather than the whole picture.

There is at least one truck-mission where you cling on to the roof of a truck. It sucks though, it's not really physics-based, just lame canned animations.

I emailed Take 2's technical support about my game glitching on the last mission just now, I doubt I'll get a reply but I guess it's worth a shot. I've tried controller switching, clearing my 360's cache, using a different save, and approaching the mission the fastest I possibly could, and nothing made any difference. I've tried it like 10 times now and it's still that silly little bit that I get stuck on.

Anyway question, does anybody from the US have a 1 month gold card for me? The one that came with the game?

I'm asking because I want to download the new DBZ demo from the marketplace, but you need gold to get that. Which totally sucks.

I'm having problems with landing two stunt jumps, hoping someone who has completed them could help and give some tips.

#42 on this map: http://i30.tinypic.com/11i1rhh.jpg (you jump from a dirt mound onto the highway)

and #46 on this map: http://i29.tinypic.com/2rw6ipd.jpg (jump from the freeway down to the street)

The maps are from GamesRadars' guide, which shows videos that aren't helping me.

I've tried them both a ton of times, I land without hitting anything, but the jumps are never good enough :( Not sure if my angles are off or if I'm missing the landing zones.

today i actually saw someone park his car and go shopping, then walk back to his car carrying bags and drive away. hadn't seen anything like that in the game yet.
Also, some idiot hit me while i was crossing the road (green light for me). Not satisfied with that, he stopped and got off the car and proceeded to beat me for "ruining" his vehicle. I was amazed when a couple policemen came to stop him and arrest him; one of them pointed a gun to his back, he put his hands up, he was lead to the car's backseat and driven away; unfortunately i wasn't able to follow them to see if they were actually heading for the police station.

Also, driving Jacob back home when we're both drunk is quite memorable; his yelling random stuff at niko when you accidentally hit something/one is hilarious.

I'd assume that's a condition of the contract with MS, anyway.

Weird, I just climbed a fire escape by jumping on an SUV to get to the roof where Brucie keeps his helicopter and found people relaxing on the roof with picnic tables decked out. I couldn't see a "legitimate" way to get to this roof.

All in the details.

I shot a bird and some guy started shooting at me with a shotgun. I ran away and called 911 while he was pursuing me. When the cops arrived, I took cover behind their car while they were taking care of him.

That was pretty cool.

Social club has a huge delay, whenever i use zit on a song I just check the site 3 days later and HOPEFULLY by then it'll be there.

My zits have become the everlasting constant on my page. It's 2 and in a week it will be 2. No matter how many songs I request.

Hmm, my ZiT's are pretty much immediate the last two days or so. But I reaaaally hate the mail-bombing the Socialclub site does when you ZiT, arf.

#46 don't know. After the third 3 it worked. Didn't anything special. (also with car, bike isnt so good for on top landing)

Just beat the high-score for QUB3D. It is damn hard...to stay awake with this game. It is like the ultimate anti geometry wars. But whatever 5% to go!

Maybe something went wrong in the whole linking process between my GT and email account because I don't get any mail from the site. I got some confirmation messages in the beginning but that's it. I've also completed the story a few days ago but I still can't access the corresponding section on the site.

I finally got the rocket launcher last night. On the
prision break
mission, I actually returned to the scene of the crime after I lost the cops/wanted level (which wasn't easy with the vehicle I was in) , and there was still a huge pile up of cars (
including the original truck and destroyed Hummer
), and a lone officer that was left alive started shooting at me. I was pretty impressed that the in-game memory had kept all this despite driving frantically around the city for 5-10 minutes.

also the last few scripted chases have been awesome. I just save my bullets now.

some recent memorable ones
going through central park on a moped
going through the subway
protecting a boat while enemy boats and a helicopter swarmed
chasing some guy through a bunch of residential neighborhoods in Alderny

this was all in the past few hours. The folks that said there were very few memorable moments in GTAIV must be extremely hard to please.

Argh, this is the most infuriating multi-player method ever.

I start a party mode and invite my friend, that works fine and dandy, then I say we'll load a ranked cops and crooks (I want to level up with my friends, goddamnit), it loads the lobby for cops and crooks, we are both there and then it kicks us out to single-player. I try again and this time select a player cops and crooks, it begins to load, I hear people's voices and then what a surprise, it kicks me back to single-player again, what a fantastic system.

Someone mentioned that the Most Wanted "chases" are a lot better done compared to the story chases because of no set pieces and enemy invincibility. They're 100% correct. Nothing like wasting ammo just to find out that you can't do anything in a story chase until they get to location x. *rollseyes*

RE: The Social Club: Mine actually updated and finally reflects (weeks after the fact) that I've beaten the game. As expected, the Story Gang thing is pretty eh.

Darunia said:

Yet another way they dropped the ball. Why even have it if you only do it once and never again? Disarming people? Once. Hanging on to trucks? Once. etc It's a dumb decision.

dskillzhtown said:

Yes.

voltron said:
So if I was to replay the whole story just to get in at under 30hrs would that be crazy? Im not too bothered about achievements like that if I miss them usually but this one I really want for some reason.
That's what I did. On my first file I beat the game in around 70+ hours. Did most of the side missions (cept for the pigeons, races and stunt jumps) and had nothing to do in the gameworld whatsoever. So I just started over on a new file.

Even with screwing around and having to replay some missions because I was rushing and didn't care, it took about 14 hours. Versus The Social Club record which is about 9 hours, start to finish.

It'll be easy enough to beat the game in the given time without trying that hard. Just skip all the cutscenes, cab teleport everywhere, do side missions sparingly... If at all. Also, don't go on any dates and keep screwing around to a minimum.

I'm at 95.00% (97.5 once I find which stunt jump I supposedly missed). But the social club has me as booting up the game and then immediately shutting the console off. I've had the story beaten for about a week, yet the social club reports that I've finished 0% of the game. I'm going to miss out on the contest because Rockstar is completely incompetent at web development. They have their heads so far up their own asses they're practically at neck level.

I came across a baseball field yesterday with a bunch of people on it sort simulating an after game meeting. I was sort of shocked by it to be honest. I was in the middle of a multiplayer game though so I had to get back to the battle.

Well I finally did it, I completed Grand Theft Auto IV. I decided to give the mission one last try, and this time it felt different, I was like a machine, and I used my index finger for the A pressing. Needless to say, I feel like a right mongoose for my previous slating of it, but now I am elated to have finally done it. 31 hours of pure win. Maybe not a full 10/10 game, but definitely one of the best things I've played within my lifetime and I'm jealous for people just starting now.

Wow thanks man, I owe you one. I was stuck on the idea that using a bike was the way to go, but I grabbed a car and completed both jumps :D I think I was overshooting the jumps before.

wow, on Integrity 2.0, Lazlow goes on about how someone in the 80's predicted that in the future, the radio would be run by robots and humans would be slaves... I could be mistaken, but isn't there a segment on one of the Vice City talk stations that has that original prediction?

And does anyone know, where my Annihilator from the pigeon killing is? Did miss something? Or is this just misinformation? Never found that one out.

I think they just poorly coded. I landed #42 exactly like the video (with crashing into wall and dying on the beach) but nope, no "stunt completed" for me. With a car, I not only got the stunt, I also survived!

Also funny is that the ambient/classical station is DJed by a robot.
