The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

So, basically Halo 3 Campaign on Legendary should mostly be played by using the N00b Combo?

I like variety, thank you very much. ;)
Yeah, that's not really fun at all. BR/Carbine + PP all the time? Why would you do that? That's boring and extremely restrictive.

Glad to see the official thread up. Starting to get really excited for ODST. I added myself to the GAF Firefight GamerTag list. Also started reading Halo: Contact Harvest which I bought when it came out but never got around to reading. Might even pick up Cole Protocol now too. Can't wait to use that Silenced Pistol god damn it!
Same. It's probably the aspect of ODST I am looking forward to the most, like the MA5C for Halo 3.

Course, I wouldn't be making such claims had I not played the game with my own two hands. I played while I was at PAX.

Oh yeah, you were one of the guys who went to PAX. I knew Ghal had went, but I couldn't remember the other person who had gone too.

I'm glad you have played it and shared what the auto-mag is like. Now I have more of an idea of how awesome ODST will be. ;)

Sweet-ass OP, Ghal!

2 weeks! Ready to dance.

And what a boring thread title. I almost fell asleep just trying to click it.
Great OP otherwise.
Why not just leave it tabbed! I just reload the tab and never have to click the thread title link!

Or you could bookmark the thread, and change the title on the bookmark.

Nice OP, Ghaleon.

Its gonna be awesome to finally get the newest maps for MP also. Im prob looking forward to that the most. That and the campaign. Ive been watching the trailer all day. :D

Plasma Pistol + Pistol + Needler could be varied enough to last me a good while, I think.

In general I'm just glad they up and made Firefight hard. It's a pretty brutal gauntlet they've thrown down, but that made it pretty satisfying from the time I had with it.
Still not feeling the difficulty setting in Firefight. It's obviously set up to have people play for multiple hours for a single firefight match. It was hard enough with random teammates on new maps with new mechanics but I can easily see Legendary games going on forever after a few weeks playing with the usual online guys. I can also see it turning into find the best place to bunker down and hold that spot for forever to get the highest score possible. I didn't catch it but a significant bonus for whipping out the waves as fast as possible woulda prevented this.

In my ideal vision games would last beyond half an hour only if you're a god at the game and that the difficulty would ratchet up very quickly. Most legendary firefight matches would last no longer than a BTB match. Honestly you played more Firefight than me so you may know better, but from what I can tell, good players will have to play for forever. The "par" on most maps were 200k and good players can only really get through 40k in 10 minutes so that doesn't speak well for your average 4-player match.

So, Bungie should turn the Silent Cartographer into an entire game is what you're saying? Because that'd be awesome.
Yeah, varations of that style but perhaps even more open would be great. But first I need to see New Mombasa in Odst and how it's implemented.

resize your title? It's bigger than my avatar.
Did you just change your avatar so you could have a "comeback"? Nice.

I could never do that. That would get way too repetitive for me. Personally, I enjoy being forced to use weapons I wouldn't otherwise use. It makes accomplishing certain scenarios and defeating enemies that much more satisfying. It makes you play differently (adapting to the weapons you're using) and that only adds to the variety.

I can't hear you, your big ass title is creating too much noise pollution.

And don't even get me started about how dumb the contents in your title really is.

Great OP Ghal.

Can't wait for ODST. I have the 23rd off college so I may just play some Firefight on the 22nd and then spend a full day slowly plumbing through the campaign. I am going to go Heroic solo for my first run through and save Legendary for my co-op second playthrough.

A team at the after PAX shindig tried Legendary, after a long romp on Heroic. They were cocky. And didn't get past the first round. And holing up in some corner of the map - like the spawn area - doesn't work. The enemy comes in too fast, and with Catch turned on being in a corner is a bad place to be. And with Tilt turned on, you can't hide in the spawn room, which only has SMGs and pistols. You gotta go get the plasma weapons.

I'm still not sure how the bonuses work. I actually thought there was one for clearing rounds quickly.

Are you going to contribute anything of worth to this thread or just attemt to aggrivate Dax?

Also your comment about Bungie rehashing Halo 1 could never be more false as this game follows a "hub and spoke" open world structure. Why don't you read the OP before making your first juicy post?

Wow... dude, how about doing what the rest of us Juniors did and read a FAQ or two? If you plan on sticking around for a while I mean.
The very owner of this website gave him that "title". You cannot change your own "title" here.

Try popping a few of your Ritalin pills before playing Halo 3. I have a feeling you'll discover an entirely new perspective on the Halo franchise.

The last firefight match I played was on Legendary on the rooftop level or whatever. I can't quit remember how long we lasted (I think only a little over 10 minutes) but that was only because my teammates were dropping like flies. I only died once before everyone else spent the rest of the respawns and died. It was actually pretty epic, I had the hammer and a pistol against a chieftain and two other brutes. I took out the chief and one of the brutes but died a few feet before the last brute. It was pretty epic. That's really an aside though, the point of this post is to say that I didn't have much of a problem playing on Legendary, even with mediocre teammates. There weren't many seasoned players there so imagine playing with a pre-WoW Blood or a pre-marriage Ram.

I'm still sure players will find strategies to hold up in certain places and don't think playing for a few hours can prove it's impossible. Grunts and drones bring plasma pistols and that's all you really need as long as you have resupplies of pistol and SMG ammo.

Your gonna last long.

In other news, don't forget about the full ODST live short (full 2:30 of it today during Band of Brothers on Spike at 10:30)

Considering ODST, wasn't hyped since you're not MC, but then I saw some trailers and was, once again, sold like a cheap hooker.

With Voc gone to Microsoft, I didn't think the site was still active. The last post was by Voc on June 8th, IIRC shortly after he sold his soul to Frank, bought a hoodie and moved up to the Seattle area.

Was varied enough when I did it in Halo 1 with those three weapons, pretty fun too.

I have early release from school on the twenty-third, so I only have to go there for about an hour and a half and then I'm out. Course, I have to get homework out of the way before I chow down.

You're not helping. Give that Ignore list some love and move on.

Getting ahead of myself:

But what are the chances of new Firefight maps as DLC?
Lars and Brian said it's not currently planned. I'd be surprised if we saw any - they're working on Reach now, which goes to the public beta in the spring.
