The Official Halo 3: ODST Thread

That CVG article (added to OP) did nothing to lessen my interest in the campaign. Nothing!

Also fixed a gaggle of typos and added Nokyard's Sentinel Factory to the map list. The forging on that map is absurd.

Instead of Recon, make his helmet a Monitor instead. That'd be pretty cool to have.

Don't. Do. This.

Size matters not.
I was just making note of it, not saying that should be a goal in anyone's mind. With the next step, I was just joking.

New ViDoc to celebrate the birth of the ODST thread, tmrw plz. Kthx.

Urk did say he wanted to give this thread some loving. :p

I'd love to see a new vidoc that was an actual vidoc. First one was cool and all, but the second just seemed to be a video telling people to pre-order.

Where are my nerdy and pointless details on development, dammit?!

^ This next one is confirmed to be in Documentary style, as they used to be.

The last vidoc relased on Monday, August 24th at 11:59 PM.

Just sayin'.
Good call.

Reminder: New ODST Commercial will be showing on SpikeTV sometime during the Band of Brothers Premier, starting in a little less than an hour at 10:30est/7:30pst.

One's coming. From two weeks ago:

What’s New?

We’ve already deployed two ODST ViDocs for your viewing pleasure, but we’re definitely not done with them yet. There is another, but you’re gonna have to wait a brief spell before you get to see it. Sorry.

You’re definitely going to like what’s up next though. Those clamoring for a more official ViDoc – the more traditional developer documentary-style stuff – are going to get exactly what they’re looking for. ViDoc Triple is once again a star-studded affair and it’s coming soon.

I know, right?

ViDoc that's an actual ViDoc, please. ;)

EDIT: Ghal, you're awesome... and so is Bungie... and so are ViDocs... that are actual ViDocs... Yay.

I have yet to pro-order this game. This might be the first Halo game that I do no own on day1 :(

You know what? I actually have yet to pre-order it as well lol. I don't really worry about that kind of thing, because I'm almost always guaranteed a copy anyway.

Nice OP, like how it's fairly succinct. As this thread has already proven several times, if you give a shit at all about spoilers you probably should not be looking in here, or anywhere for that matter.

Dax01 said:
Of course not. I just don't want to see this thread turn into what the Halo 3 thread became in the end.

And page 7, woot! Next stops: 77 then 117.

The mind boggles.

How spoiler-heavy is the CVG preview article? I only read what Soldat posted, but I want to read more.
Louis Wu wrote this about it.
Louis Wu said:
Computer and Video Games has a preview of Halo 3: ODST that's also an interview with Bungie's Curtis Creamer about the game - no spoilers, but some information about the full length of the game presented in a way I haven't seen before. (Remember; difficulty, number of players, and personal skill all work into how long a campaign lasts - your mileage may vary.)

Just finished the OXM article. Hype increased. Had to skip around so I didn't spoil the flashback and story they mentioned but man is this going to be a good game.

Here's the part of the CVG article that I found most appealing:

CVG said:
Four flashbacks and a lot of night-time wandering takes close to three hours to plough through on Heroic - the 'right' setting by Bungie's reckoning. It puts the game on track for a seven or eight hour campaign, all of which can be modified with Halo 3's skulls right from the start if regular Halo isn't vicious enough for you. It's neither an expansion nor a mission pack; ODST is a huge game. "It's big," says Curtis. "This is a full-size campaign; certainly nothing less than what we've done in the past."

Also, the Extended Trailer should be airing like really soon, shouldn't it?

What it was in the end was pretty much how it was since post 1.

Just a reminder that the extended live action trailer will be up on SpikeTV in a little bit. Hopefully one of the earlier commercials.
I almost forgot, but I'd much rather just download it on LIVE and watch it in HD, but I did watch a little BOB hard to believe it's 8 years old!

...whereas this is actually my first Halo game preorder :lol

I pre-ordered once I heard about Firefight. Horde + Halo Sandbox is like peanut butter and chocolate. Ever since then I've had my finger on the trigger to cancel the pre-order if I heard the game wasn't worth the $60. Two weeks left to go and I'm feeling pretty damn good about everything I've heard so far, especially regarding campaign length, player choice, and replayability.

To practice a bit I've been doing some solo missions - not on legendary though. Instead, just tweaking the campaign with skulls. Heroic Difficulty + Tough Luck + Fog + Thunderstorm + Tilt + Grunt Birthday Party + IWHBYD. Makes the campaign fucking fantastic. Everything is more dangerous, resistances are raised, and you've got to stay on your toes to survive, but its not as overwhelming as legendary. Couldn't recommend it more for those who might not have used the skulls in Halo 3's campaign.

Yep, pretty much every 4th or 5th page, someone would start a

I'm sure that will surface here, only in a "pistol vs BR" kind of way.

The BR functionally is actually split between the new SMG and the pistol. It works pretty well.

I'll probably forget all about the BR when I first pop some caps with the Auto Mag in ODST.

Grunt Birthday Party might be the greatest contribution to gaming ever. So satisfying! It should be in matchmaking: finish a kill with a headshot from a pistol, BR, sniper, etc and the body explodes into confetti. At least give us the option to use it in customs in Reach!!

Wait, there are
ten flashback missions
? I thought there were only
eight, going by the achievements
?

The new pistol is certainly going to be a lot of fun.

Perhaps the last 2 Flashbacks will be extra missions unlocked after beating ODST the first time around?

When is it supposed to be on exactly?

Edit: Next post number is 343 OMG!

Yep. Once you go Grunt Birthday Party, you don't go back :) IMHBYD is also hilarious - I cracked up when I heard the Arbiter say "welcome to the social" as we were ravaging through a squad of grunts and confetti.

Dunno. Was just going by whatever was posted in the other thread.

Wasn't on during the first commercial break... blarg damn TV execs always put it towards the end to boost attendence. Show's on for another hour too...

I love how the burst of confetti is an actual explosion. With Cowbell on, a rather powerful one at that.

I still don't see how the SMG holds any similarities to the BR. Sure it can take down shields eventually at close to a little further than close range but so can a lot of other weapons.

BR debates will never die, people need to embrace it or the ignore function.

Except that in really hectic situations switching between the two weapons in Halo3 is stupid and slow.

The pistol has the headshot capability, while the SMG packs the punch and the spread.
