Game with Flame

Great idea guys. I now know what you guys were really up to that day when we got matched up in MM. Its nice to see Bungie continually embracing the Halo community even when Microsoft is practically doing its best to ruin it.
That sounds great, I can just imagine everyone in awe as soon as they see the flaming helmets.

I also spotted a Mythic Map Pack code on the page. :)

That it's confusing. But more to the point, it's unnecessarily confusing. Of all the Halo 3 maps, it has the least intuitive layout. I like the idea of being able to see the other team as you spawn, but the way the map both shifts levels and doubles back in the center is really disorienting; I'm still hearing in every game some variation of "where the fuck am I?" from my team. I think something like Elongation but doubled over around a corner, with side routes, would have worked better.

But as I said, once teams actually find each other, the combat is great. The cover, the corners, the shootouts from the overlooks - great stuff. It's just an example of a counterintuitive map design.

I still have no mental concept of the layout.
I see an Elongation-feel too.

But as for your combat remark, it's quite different for me. If a person sees me or my red dot, first thing the person does is throw a grenade. If I begin shooting back, he'll throw another and then either A) run away and throw any grenades he picks up along the way or throws down a Regen/Bubble Shield, or B) gets support from a nearby teammate. Out of the games I've played so far there, none have been very fun to me. Maybe its the map layout. Maybe its the players. Like I said before, it could grow on me like other Halo 3 maps like Snowbound and High Ground.

I think the grenade tossing is in the nature of the close quarters. That happens a lot on the corners and intersections. Maybe I just have an unusual experience, but a lot of my games are spend on mid-range BR fights where grenades are less of a factor. (Up and down escalators, over chasms, down the halls.)

Of course, when I run into someone right around a corner, I start chucking grenades like hell.

Ok I'm loving Sanctum and Mage v.2. Me and Echo ran around and found just a few small problems with each.

Sanctum:
-The ledges are removed near plasma pistol and middle base that allow you to get to mid 3. I dunno if that is by design but you were supposed to be able to get up there in H2 it wasn't a glitch.

Mage:
-We believe the four things in the middle that are two layers are a waste of budget even though they make it look a lot like Warlock instead we think four obelisk blocks would be better
-Which allows extra budget to fit those walls in instead of killballs.
-You can stay alive behind the walls if you go to the left or right of the killball, which would be shitty for oddball.
-One of the bases, I believe blue you can use the lift to get to the top outer ring middle. There are blocks up above in the other three bases that push you to the left when you try n make the jump.
-I always thought shotguns were found between teleporter and base lifts and there was a plasma rifle to the right of the four platform ramps. Budget decision?

If you need any pics PM and Ill go and make them. But really solid work. Can't wait to play some customs on them.

Oh and wheres the Onslaught remake!? Remake the best H3 map! in H3!

Two big thumbs up for all the kickass maps coming out of here and the awesome palette sets you guys made. We've been tooling around on a few variants in the office today and I'm dying to get in and actually play some customs. Hopefully this all translates into awesome custom maps hitting matchmaking sooner than if we hadn't given out codes early. Thanks for helping to lead the charge.

(digging the Ivory Tower vibe of Refuge, looking forward to giving it a go)

Is it possible to add some more Sandbox variants into Team Mythic? Or will that have to wait until Mythic is widely available via XBL?

Shishka has said there will be numerous variants integrated into the playlists once the Mythic set hits Marketplace.

I know that, but it'd be nice to get more Sandbox variants than SWAT on Tundra in Team Mythic. Hell, give us regular Team BRs on Tundra. I'd love to see how that map would play out in a normal Slayer match.

Oh and Shishka, we're hungry! Where is our March MM Update plate?! :P

I still feel bad about most people having to shell out $80 for the maps so if it were up to me the Mythic playlist would be as limited as possible until the everyone has a chance to download them. This way Bungie has plenty of time to look at community maps as well as refine their own variants for matchmaking.

changed one small thing. something spawned in after 60 secs.

VH, I think your Sanctuary re-make is very well done (just judging from the screens, will play on it when I get back from my Accounting class), but I'm just a bit worried that you chose to make it in The Crypt since The Crypt is too small for something like Sanctuary.

From b.net:

Due to unforeseen typographical errors (lousy Smarch weather!), this month's Matchmaking Update has been delayed and renamed the April Matchmaking Update. But dry those eyes wittle gamers: to make it up to you, we've got Grifball lined up for the next four weekends. You're welcome.

Honestly thats kinda dumb. Put a ledge to the left you can jump up on.
i didn't want to make it easy to get up there because its on the crypt which makes it smaller than normal sanctuary. and you can see pretty much the entire map from up there. so if i made it easy to get up there i thought that it might break the map

its definitely not the same but
middle level has no walls and building them would take too much mony. sky bubble = not enough budget

Creating a floor for the map in the skybox probably would have cost too much, and isn't the middle of Sandbox a little too narrow for Sanctuary?

DLing Mythic Maps now... Penguin, you are a god!

Someone give this guy Recon already!

Anyone up for customs?

Didn't you just say your xbox was perma-ringed?

If you got some special one-day fix due to a call to Microsoft or something, I'd sure as hell like to know it, I wanna trade in for the RE5 bundle next Friday. :P

It was. I somehow coerced it back from the dead by rubbing it, singing to it, other foreplay, etc. Let's just hope it lasts!

:D Now I'm all warm and fuzzy inside.
Hopefully your box stays alive until tomorrow. Got a Chem test to study for. sadface

Vhfive:
The Sancuary remake looks fantastic from the screens. My only concern is the lighting. Are you going to add the red/blue orbs to indicate the bases? Because that map needs some serious lighting boosts. The crypt is just so dark, and Sancuary is just so radiant.

If anyone has any extra maps I will gladly take them off your hands.

Same Please.

I bought halo wars but couldnt afford the extra 20 bucks for the CE.
Well, I could, but didn't do my homework before pre-ordering so I ended up with the standard edition and no Mythic Map pack.

im posting this from my phone...no internet, time to finally finish mass effect

Has anyone found an infinate money glitch for Sandbox yet? That would be rediculously helpful it seems.
On one hand I'd hope that the great sandbox maps get integrated into MM and matchmaking maps can't use that glitch. On the other hand, there's a decent chance a lot of great remakes wouldn't get integrated anyways so it'd be awesome if the forger could go all out with it and create the most accurate remake possible.

I know that it can't go into MM if it is glitched, but from the way Foundry was treated, there will be a very minimal amount of user generated content in MM. I would love for forgers to be able to have an infinate supply of money and be able to create accurate and large remakes. The money glitch may allow mid-sized maps like Ascension or possibly Headlong to be created.

Even with a money glitch forgers would quickly run into the 640 object limit after they go beyond the money budget. I decided to throw a bunch of spawns and other objects to see how close to the object limit I was after creating my map and I think I was around 40 below the limit and I used all the money as well as lots of the default objects.

It seems to me that the chance of getting a map into MM outweighs the ability to throw 40-odd extra objects down. Still expands the map's creative potential but the object limit but not by much.

Well, after playing a couple solid hours of the Mythic playlist, I can safely say that I really do not care at all for the default Sandbox map. I feel like it's just too open and there's not enough cover to hide when your shields are low.

Ok so these maps are pretty terrible.

Assembly
- Ass spawns. Literally terrible.
-SWAT don't work
-Slayer don't work
-Neutral Bomb? Fucking kidding me?

Orbital
-Awful layout, confusing especially at first, but still dumb after you figure it out.
-Places you can fall off in a building? Doesn't make much sense. Reminds me of the ending of Star Wars
-Neutral Bomb? Are you fucking kidding me?

Sandbox
-Default layout TERRIBLE, Spawns SUCK, Chopper? Seriously?

The only redeeming quality is that we can make Sandbox into a good map.

It definitely wasn't a glitch, but I think removing it (or impairing it, as was done) improves the map. Sanctuary's two planes were fine and dandy, the third one was annoying and cheap. vhfive, are you using the default objects first? I'm just curious how you're so close to your dollar limit, since it would seem that you've used a fraction of the geometry I have on some of my earlier iterations, and I had a cool buck fifty by the end of those. Anyways, looks sweet.

Good work on the maps, dudes. I can't wait to see if any of these get plucked for matchmaking. Anyways, I'm looking forward to jumping back into H3 this weekend.

My earlier comments about the complainers still complaining has been validated. Dude, I don't even disagree with you about a lot of the things you say most of the time, but this is absolutely ludicrous. Go play a different game and shit on a different thread once in a while.

I suppose that makes sense. I don't have a firsthand experience as I don't have the maps. From what you say, the extra money may not add too much. But from a couple of cases that I've seen here (the Turf II map and Sanctuary) the little bit of eaxtra cash would make the map a lot better.
On the Turf remake, he could add some much needed walls and possibly make a henged door.
As for Vhfive's Sanctuary map, I really think that adding lighting to the map would make it a lot better then it is now.

Yeah, I feel like being a little more industrious with the budget could net the necessary fourty quid to drop two light balls into the map.
