I would be down for a Halocon it is when a Flightcon pops up that we know everything has gone to far :p
I really don't see a Halo convention coming, but who knows.

Side note: I think with the Halo series being handled by three different studios (Bungie, Ensemble, whoever the hell is doing Chronicles) the quality of the games are going to be all over the map.

Bungie is, well, Bungie so there's no questioning their integrity towards Halo.

Ensemble has done wonders with Age of Empires so I don't worry about Halo Wars in terms of gameplay, just a bit worried in terms of story.

WETA & PJ have huge projects under their belts, not just from games, but from famous movies and CG scenes. So I think Halo Chronicles will be more of an interactive cinematic more than an actual game. Either way, I'm more excited for Chronicles than Halo Wars because of what WETA can do with visuals and the story, considering it might be one of the Halo games we'll desire in terms of finding out more from the Halo universe.

So far, I've been really impressed with what we've seen of Halo Wars - and I'm typically an uptight nut about the fiction of the franchise. While I've yet to see anything that seriously harms the overall story from Halo Wars' campaign, I think that some of us, including myself, are going to have to accept the possibility of brief departures from the franchise's fiction in an effort to create an engaging experience from a gameplay standpoint with any Halo title, whether produced by Bungie or another studio.

While Bungie is the only studio which has made great Halo titles at this point, they're also the only studio which has made any - so we have no measuring stick to determine what quality would be like outside of their realm. Hypothetically speaking, of course, if BioWare or Bethesda were to make an RPG based on the story of the Forerunner-Flood War, for example, we'd be pretty confident that it would be of a high quality. If Ubisoft were to make a third-person squad-based tactical game based on a group of UNSC Marines, most of us would likely feel confident there as well.

Where I would not want a third-party involved would be Halo 4, Halo 5 and Halo 6, for example. While I don't think they'll be called that (I hope not at least) and while I'm not thrilled with the pretext of using the Master Chief/Cortana adventure scheme again (which, based on the Legendary ending seems to be the case), these are the types of titles which I would only feel confident with Bungie making. They're implicit to the core elements of the Halo franchise's fiction and just as I feel like Contact Harvest was the best of the novels because Staten penned it himself, I'd likely feel the same about the franchise's core series - the Halo trilogy and whatever game or trilogy which follows them.

I'm wondering how deep WETA's involvement is. The game started as a partnership between Bungie and WETA (and the newly formed Wingnut Interactive). Now Bungie is no longer involved, and Microsoft is staffing up an internal team for it. And it's coming up on two years since the game was announced.

We'll see how it comes along. I do trust developers who have a track record, but on paper this doesn't sound like a good way to ramp a project. But I love me some Halo games, so I am hopeful. Plus, Frank's working on the fiction at MS now, so at the least I'm very interested because of his involvement (much more so than before he moved over). At the least, the fiction should be really interesting.

There's a big difference between a Bungie convention (Bungiecon) and a Halo convention (Halocon). The former would be awesome and the latter would make me sad.

Why? Quakecon showcases more than just Quake.

You have any recommended tutorials on gif making in Fireworks? I need something kind of simple because I'm an idiot.
I'm not really using any techniques that I know of. If you wanna turn a pc video file into a gif you can use the program Spasm recommended, SUPER, which can do a bunch of stuff including taking a picture of each frame of the video which you can then use in fireworks as each frame of the gif. SUPER can also just turn the video file into an animated gif and then you can use Fireworks to scale, crop, and other edits to the gif.

If you wanna edit an existing gif like I did with my flight/recon gifs, just open the gif in Fireworks and I just copy/pasted pics of flight/recon at different angles into each frame.

Like I said, I'm no help really because I'm not doing anything fancy.

This is the guy you probably want to ask.

Yeah, Quakecon would be more accurately called Idcon or something. It's a convention with all of Id's stuff spanning across several franchises and universes. The Halocon suggested in the interview would not be like Quakecon, it would be a bunch of games from several different publishers all working withing the same ol' franchise and universe. Bleh.

I am hoping for a continuation of the MC/Cortana story. What a great opportunity for a complete reboot of the series. The possibilities excite me far more than following some random squad around in some part of the Halo universe.

Give me MC/Cortana wandering around on an alien world with new discoveries and encounters to blow our minds.

This is all that WETA has worked on and are working on:

Dam Busters - in development
Tintin - in production
Avatar - in production (2009)
The Lovely Bones - in production (2009)
The Day the Earth Stood Still - in production (2008)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008)
Jumper (2008)
30 Days of Night (2007)
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (2007)
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
Bridge to Terabithia (2007)
Eragon (2006)
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
King Kong (2005)
I, Robot (2004)
Van Helsing (2004)
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Contact (1997)
The Frighteners (1996/I)
Forgotten Silver (1995) (TV)
Heavenly Creatures (1994)

If you want to talk about games they've worked on, the only one I know of is Heavenly Sword's cinematics. So I'm assuming they'll be a part of the cinematic process for Halo Chronicles and PJ and his new Wingnut will work on the gameplay and storytelling of Chronicles w/ Frankie.

Okay then, I've had a couple of Social Slayer matches where I was 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 4 and I had a great idea.

Against All Odds

This could actually be a great mode. Having 2v4 or 1v3 or 1v4 would be epic and intense.

This will only work if everyone on the other team is terrible.

Make matchmaking always pair up someone at least around 20 levels higher than the people from the 2/3/4 person team. Once you are successful in your attempts and rank up more then you, too can be the lone warrior!

Except I don't know what they would do when the playlist is new and everyone is low ranked in it...

1v4, you think that's epic? Try, 1v8. And Bungie already has that under control

Halo CG film eh? I think I got it.

I think it's the full version of the Armor Testing video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0ymFem5EEY
It's labeled "trailer" so the full thing could be coming soon?

Also in the newest video 'Boxed Pikachu' his description says: "I am working on 'something'. I really hope it's successful because if I pull it off right it's going to be huge."

It would make sense.

Who is Joseph Bray? I'm pretty sure everyone saw that immediately - it's like... on the picture.

But yeah, even before OuterWorldVoice laughed :lol at the idea of it being the PJ project, it was obvious it's a fan made film.

No one cares about Steve Downes confirmed.

Question: Are you working with Bungie on some new game that isn't Halo 3?

Answer: Maybe yes. Maybe no.

Halo 4 confirmed.

Sorry, probably over-hyped myself. I just saw one of the posters do the whole decryption and once I saw the "CG Animated Halo trilogy", I got over-excited and wanted to post it. :p

There have been rumors of Gearbox working on a Halo game for MS. It could be Halo 3 for PC.

It could be this project though. Kinda like how MS worked with Mistwalker and Artoon to make Blue Dragon. It could be a threesome of MS, Wingnut and Gearbox making a Halo love child.

I still hope Bungie is developing the real Halo 4, ready for Xbox 720 launch.
