The Official I Suck At Videogames Topic

Okay, I'm coming clean.

I really suck at videogames. With all the batshit going on about MGS3, I popped in MGSTTS for the first time today. Wow the graphics are total shit, but that's another point. I spent probably an hour on the very first section, the cargo dock where you first arrive. It took me forever to get passed that, and I'm not sure how I did. I couldn't kill anyone, just knock them out, and they'd be up and gunning me down five seconds after falling.

I have no idea how I managed to pass it. Apparantly I started choking the gaurds to death, even though I wasn't doing anything differently, and it got to the point where I could just run into the elevator. Then I spent five minutes in a cutscene, and got my ass kicked by the next area.

I wish this was an isolated case. Pikmin 2 has me actually terrified to do anything for fear of killing off every one of my guys, and I haven't won a round of Mario Kart in years. I manage to do alright in Halo 2, but only because I am pretty decent at memorizing maps and cheating by looking at others screens. It takes me 5+ tries to get through any given mission in GTA:SA. I'm just fucking horrible at these things...

And I know I'm not the only one, so fess up.

I wouldn't say I suck, but I am not as good as most. Halo 2 SP has not really been that challenging, but in multi-player, I am never on top of the score list. I am not at the bottom either, but again, not as good as most. GTA:SA is another story, I am doing really well at that game, when I play. That is the major issue for me, finding time to play and get better at these games. My work schedule has me gone most of the day, and when I get home I am so wiped out, I don't have the desire to play most of the time.

I suck too. Well....I say I suck, but I probably just suck compared to you guys. Certainly I'm up there with my friends who play games, but they just aren't that good either. Which is propbably the main reason I suck, my competition is just pants, I have no need to get any better. Another thing is I don't have the patience (or time) to keep doing the same section again until I get past it, which would obviously be a hindrance in getting good at games. Screw it though, I have better things to do with my time.

I did complete Mario Sunshine with little difficulty though, and people said that was quite tough. Not hard, not Ninja Gaidan hard, but not easy. On the other hand, I couldn't get anywhere in Halo on legendary.

Oh I dunno. Basically, at least 90% of this forum would kick my ass in multiplayer games, but I do ok in other situations.

I'm horrible, and this is no secret to anyone who's played me online. :) I attribute this to being an adult with responsibility, rather then a teen or a college kid that can play games all night long. It doesn't really matter though, I don't care if I win so long as I'm competitive enough to get enjoyment out of it.

I totally suck at racing games. I hate using brakes and I have no clue how to shift properly. It takes me hours to get around the track the first time. All I care about is shooting and smashing other cars. Only reason I like like GT games are for the cool replays of which I usually just download saves from the internet.

I suck at games that don't require a mind-numbing and monotonous reflex. I'm excellent at fighting games, boxing games, and tennis games.

I am terrible at almost any game thats not a music/rythm game. Im okay at racing games. I played Halo on easy (still havnet beaten it lack of time) Got so mad I broke an xbox controller on the final boss in Orta. Playing on EASY *blushes* Didnt power up the right forms. I get lost SO easily in RPGs and adventure games, going in circles. Tho I DID get right past the pipe ;-) I could go on, but I shouldnt embarass myself anymore.

On the bright side I play Gitaroo man on Masters mode and there are people who refuse to play Taiko Drum Master against me. :lol I'm pretty good at puzzle games too, but they don't count, theyre easy ;)

I suck at adventure/RPG puzzles. Though I did manage to beat ToS without a guide! :D
I can't beat Fire Leo on Adults Mode in VJ.
I suck at MK: DD hardcore.

I suck at first person shooters and fighting games.

Ditto, except I would say I'm just below average in these games. I seem to do best these days in sports (topspin) and racers (moto gp 1/2).

I've recently put in some good time on Halo 2 and DOA Ultimate, but I'm probably just below average in both. I just can't seem to keep up with the top dogs in games like that.

I've beaten both Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell 1/2 but both were definitely a struggle at times and I definitely didn't cruise through them.

So never fear because many of us here suck at different types of games.

After getting schooled at Halo2 all day long, I realised that maybe my reflexes arent what they used to be. I mean, its really like I wasnt fast enough. I'm getting too old for this shit :(

Solitaire awaits me

I have no idea what I'm doing in a square RPG. I'll be half way through the game and still be baffled by the system, it also takes me 5 times as long as everyone else to beat the game.

I suck at nearly every type of action game. When fast reaction time is required I'm death. That's the reason why I have to play halo 2 and half-life 2 at easy difficulty setting. I would stand no chance otherwise. I also suck at racers, fighters, sports games, jump'n'runs and shooters. Not to mention rythm games such as Space Channel 5. And I suck in strategy games too and in simulations. Oh... And I forgot to say that I also suck at GTA.

I suck at fighting games (SSB not included, more traditional fighting games included) and usually resort to button-mashing to piss off my friends. I probably could get better at them, but not many hold my interest.

Hmm, I suck at fighting games. I can never do the crazy combos they make you do for all the crazy shit and I can never put a good strategically fought round together. Well, sometimes, but never like I want to. Oh, and I suck at dance games. Either because I don't care to learn em or I just can't.

Man, and I thought I was bad. I mean I have slow reaction as well but some of you guys sound way worse than me.

My biggest problem occur in those fighting games. 3D is still ok but 2D's really bad for me. I'm too slow to pull off shit in those games.

I'm pretty good at FPS though. I can usually manage an above-average performance on online servers. Anyway, when you hit an online server and wonder how those top fraggers mange it all. Well, wonder no more. Those guys invest an OBSCENE amount of time into those games. I know, because I've been there before. Needless to say, it's not good for your social life.....

I truly suck at anything remote platform related. The 2nd level of VJ made me cry.

And I've just got a copy of Jak 3 - it took me about 40 minutes to get past the tutorial/opening level : (

I'm lame.

my twitch skills have gone to shit since all my consoles got stolen awhile ago and i have beenplaying pc rts games since.

I suck at most fighters--the only ones I've ever mastered to a degree of proficiency worth mentioning are Virtua Fighter 1 and Tekken 3. I'm worthless at VF4:Evo. I'm even worthless at Super Smash Bros. Melee.

I thought at first that my reflexes were eroding with age and that I'd have to give up twitch gaming, but I'm doing pretty well with Gradius V these days, so that's not it.

My only problem is is that my skills usually don't evolve in games.

Off the bat I'm usually (99%) better than other people whom I'm playing against. But I stick to that level while they usually progress further with time.

Probably because I don't want to progress further. Like with fighting games or RTSs. I don't want to learn every move and counter-move in the book. I don't want to micromanage every unit and calculate resources so I won't have any down time. I just want to play for the heck of it.

Like at some LAN-party a couple of years ago. We entered a Battlefield tourney with our (horrible) fun-clan. We played against a team (the winners later on) and we got absolutely annihilated! 400-0 (400 was the starting amount of tickets) at Wake Island. No matter what we did or where we'd go, they would always be there first. We even tried coordinating our strats a bit more like moving to 1 specific point all at the same time and still we couldn't win.

We later approached those guys and asked them how they did it. They pulled this big bundle of papers out of their bags with 3-page strategies for every map. And vastly different strategies for 5-5, 6-6, 7-7 and so on. And all of those guys knew them by heart. If you reach that level... is it even fun to play that game anymore!? Because the only thing you're doing is following a manual so to speak.

Hmm, maybe that's the reason why I don't want to put too much time into games to improve my skills

I feel like i'm below the average in deatmatch mode. Maybe except Doom in maps i know. Can't really tell why but normally i suck in things i don't like so maybe it's the too much straighfowardness of deatmatch modes that help me sucking at it.
I'm also quite sucking at Contra-like games.

You sure about that 400-0 thing? If so, that would mean that not only did you never get them to the point that they were bleeding tickets, but you guys never even managed to kill a single one of them, as a team loses a ticket for each time one of their members dies.

As soon as I get to a point in a game where the only way for me to get better is to do stuff like that, that's exactly the point where I lose interest. Once I have to start memorizing build orders down to the second in an RTS, or counting frames or something in a fighter, that's the point that I stop having fun.

That's one of the reasons I always loved Treadmarks (one of the most woefully underappreciated games I've ever played). Since weapon spawning was random, you couldn't dominate a map by just running a predetermined path through the level grabbing stuff as it respawns. The game stressed adapting to a changing environment and learning to use the majority of the weapons, so you could easily put yourself in a situation to get kills no matter what you end up with.
