Quick question - anyone have this happen?

I used to sync my Touch with my work Mac. Anything I bought in iTunes would copy over to the iPod and anything purchased on the iPod would copy to iTunes, so they always matched.

My work machine is in for repairs so I tried to sync with my home Mac this morning and got a message saying all of the apps on my iPod would be replaced with the ones in iTunes, which is NONE since I haven't synced on this machine before. So I cancelled.

Anyone know why the syncing worked both ways on my other machine but only seems to want to go iTunes>iPod now?

You can only have syncing setup with one iPod/computer combo. If you want it to auto sync on a new machine you have to reformat it to use that machine as a 'base' machine. In which case it will delete everything on there, and replace it with whatever is on your new machine.

I caved in and tried to buy canabalt (its not worth $3 when I can just play it on the computer) but it says I need OS 3.1. Why would this simple game need the new OS?
The dev posted this on the toucharcade forums:
3.1 has a very nice vsync game loop function that was essential to getting the performance we needed in the time that we had. It's possible that with more time we could optimize the game to the point where we can get great touch frequency AND vsync without 3.1, but I don't have any kind of ETA on that. It boiled down to choosing between delaying the game, having spotty touches, or requiring 3.1, and we went with the third option there.

Anyone know of any good Bullet Hell games or a SHMUP in general for the iPhone? I've been itching to play one...
Space Invaders Infinity Gene, I guess no one else mentioned it cause most people already know about it.

Random, but any actionscript 3 pros here? I'm thinking about working on a flash based iphone app since the announcement of CS5 made me happy since I actually know how to use flash, but gotta relearn alot with actionscript.

I mainly do art, and minimal programming, but would love to work on something already based on the specs that adobe released. I'm fucking around with flash right now since it's been a while since I touched it, but set it to the 480 x 320 layout to get a feel for it.

I'm going to try to learn it, as I have some cool AS2 projects that would be awesome fits on iPhone (my 2D Sidescrolling adventure game mainly). I'm super excited about learning it in order to make apps :D

Hey everyone! Just got my iPod touch yesterday and I was wondering if there are any "must have" games. The one thing that caught my eye was something called pocketgod for $.99. All the reviews seemed to be glowing

It depends on what you like, from puzzle games or more "hardcore" game types you'd fine on PSP. Pocket God is more like a toy than a game.

I personally didn't "get" pocket god; just seems to be a very limited sandbox style arena to me. My current go to games are Civ Rev, Dungeon Hunter and SIIG - though Pathpix was fab (all 169 levels of it)

dungeon hunter is pretty great if you're into RPG's, basically diablo lite on the go
Alive 4 Ever is probably the best shooter, and just got an update. geoDefense would be my recommendation for a tower defense game. The last two are only .99 each i believe

Just to add; Geodefense is very good (but tough too) and The Creeps is another good TD game (with very silly sound effects)

As far as platformers go, I'd go with Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor. It's a really great game, perfect for the Touch. You play as a spider, but you're not some suped up spider ready to save the world. You make webs, and catch bugs. But the bugs all differ, so it's not as simple as making a web, sometimes you have to cox them into it (the mosquito for example, will stay a safe distance from you, so you have to "push" it into your web by forcing it to fly in that direction). You find secret areas within the manor, and these areas leave clues as to what really happened there. Amazing game. $3 I believe.

So, according to that blog that everybody hates, Catan has been submitted to the app store. I garnered this information via one of the sloppiest pieces of professional journalism that I have ever seen.

The iPhone version of famously fun table top game Catan has been submitted to Apple for approval, the developers tell us.

Catan - The First Island will be available soon for both the iPhone and iPod Touch, they say, though know word yet on pricing.

The iPhone version of the game will support up to four players with a "hot-seat multiplayer mode." The game will also have an assortment of iPhone-controlled Catanians with a variety of strategies to play against.

As much as I'm looking forward to this game, I am a little bummed that it sounds like there won't be any online support.

What is this firmware 1.0? The iPhone supports plenty of online capabilities these days, from chatting and downloadable add-on content to mulitplayer gaming.

Let's hope they'll be adding that functionality with an update.

As we roll toward the holidays and the number of big-name, high-value iPhone and iPod Touch games sky rockets, we'd love to know which games you're looking for reviews of.

There's now way we'll be able to review every big iPhone game hitting, so we'll do our best to try and hit the ones you all suggest. So suggest away.

Geodefense is the god of tower defense games on ANY platform as far as my experience goes. Nothing has come close to the thought and level design displayed, certainly not on the iphone. its just one of those games which feels like it advanced to another level, maybe like an awesome road you drive on, or a famous racing track which has been designed better than an average racing track.

I don't know about best on any platform, but it holds it's own certainly.

On the iPhone? I agree completely. Best TD game by a large margin, and also maybe the best game on the platform period.

Edge (which is finally back in the Store), both geoDefense and geoDefense Swarm (unless you loathe tower defense games), Canabalt, Drop 7, Eliss, iBlast Moki, Mecho Wars, Monospace, Spider, Zen Bound.

Do enough people here use OpenFeint to justify making an OpenFeint thread in the online forum?

I use it, and I like it way more than Plus+

I just published a review of Boom Brigade. It's a tower/base defense game that uses the route-tracing mechanic of games like Harbour Master. Not a lot of content yet, but tons of promise/potential here.

Intro:

gamefwd.org said:
Boom Brigade combines elements of real-time strategy, tower defense and route-tracing games to create a brief, but very fun and promising game that feels right at home on the iPhone/iPod Touch platform. It looks and sounds great, controls well and can be genuinely addictive once you get the hang of it.

In Boom Brigade, you are tasked with defending your bunker from waves of alien attackers by drawing paths around the battlefield for your soldiers to follow. This unique mechanic sets Boom Brigade apart from other defense and strategy games and though there is plenty of room for improvement, there is also the potential for this game to spawn a whole sub-genre of its own.

Ended up giving it a 3/5, but a very very positive one.

Anyone playing "Squareball"? It's kind of awesome. It's, basically, Arkanoid platformer. Yes, exactly as that sounds. Kind of tongue in cheek, retro-ish graphics (it's all squares), a "Story" mode (and as weird as that sounds), and some pretty badass (if repetitive) tunes. Pretty decent game. I think it's on sale.

Just wish it wasn't so bloody hard.

My personal favorite game I've come come across so far is Azkend. If you like puzzle games, it's a must. So much polish. It's gone on sale for $.99 a couple of times in the past.

I play it from time to time, when I want to ensure my self-esteem gets blown off the planet and I don't want that to be distracted by pretty graphics such as geoDefense's yes

I've downloaded 75+ games I'd say the only must-haves are Drop7, Peggle and Spider.

Flash will NOT be available for the iPhone. What will be available is the ability to compile iPhone native applications from within the Flash authoring environment. Totally different. It just means that a lot of Actionscript developers can now be lazy and not bother having to learn Objective-C to be able to put stuff in the AppStore.

That said, a few demo games are already available, and the Flash CS5 beta should be, from what I've read, available by the end of the year so expect to see more stuff then.

Are there any "games" similar to mafia wars or dragon wars or anything like that? I always enjoy web game diversions like that. Click a couple times, come back a few hours later and do it again... it's strangely addicting for me

anybody here checked out Arkanoid on the iPhone yet? it looks pretty tempting - IGN seems to dig it, but I wanna ask "the heartland"

EDIT: NimbleBit are giving away their 6 games for free, today only (Friday), in order to promote their new App Classics

Rock Band for iPhone sneak peek - 6:30 Video

Show's gameplay including FOUR PLAYER bluetooth multi-player band session. Very impressive graphics and presentation. I also like the interface. Looks fun.

So you can't sing along with the vocals? The iPhone has a microphone that could be used for this. It would be a lot of fun for quick play with friends.

I saw someone mention that it might use too much processing power. Dunno if that's why it's excluded but it is pretty lame.

the biggest problem i have with tap tap or gh clones on the ipod is that after 1 song the screen is hot because of all the power needed to render those unnecessary background models, so it becomes uncomfortable for me to play. just like a touchpad on a laptop.
