So you can't sing along with the vocals? The iPhone has a microphone that could be used for this. It would be a lot of fun for quick play with friends.

"All without losing any of the classic Rock Band experience."

Love that quote after watching the video. Not singing along or playing with plastic instruments, but yeah, you don't lose anything!

impressions soon

This looks very nice, as in it's well thought out, nice design and graphics...but watching that video made me dizzy. I don't think I'd be able to play it, which surprises me because I was never one for "this game makes me feel seasick!" complaints before.

Me too. I picked it up and was feeling it a little while playing but after a minute you get used to it. The game is alright so far. Got up to level 4 and the blue coin challenge. The controls work great.

I haven't played any of them, but everything from NimbleBit seems to be free right now: Textropolis, Sky Burger, Moon Drop, etc. Their games seem to mostly look all the same, but Textropolis looks different.

From TouchArcade:
Freebie Fridays have been somewhat of a tradition over at NimbleBit, where they make one of their games free for a day to promote a new title or the rest of their lineup. In a somewhat unprecedented move, they've decided to make all of their games free for a day to promote their new project, App Classics, a web site that searches the App Store using various calculations in attempt to generate a list of the best and most popular apps available.

If you're unfamiliar with NimbleBit's collection of games, here is what's available for free that would have cost you a buck or two yesterday (and will tomorrow):

* Bluebird – Play as a small bird trying to fly as far as possible. Eat bugs to regain energy and tap the screen to flap your wings
* Hanoi Plus – A classic logic puzzle, move stacks of differently sized baskets to the opposite side of the screen stacked smallest to largest.
* Moon Drop – Assist astronauts colonizing the moon. Tap and hold the screen to fire the thrusters of the lunar landers to help them land safely.
* Scoops – Catch falling scoops of ice cream as high as you can while avoiding tomatoes and onions. Play long enough and you will be stacking ice cream past the planets of our solar system.
* Sky Burger – Fill orders for burgers utilizing ingredients falling from the sky. Gameplay is similar to Scoops, but with objectives.
* Textropolis – Search for words using the letters of various city names. With each word match the definition flies by and buildings are built on the top half of the screen.

Bought Spider and Alive 4 Ever, though I haven't tried them yet

Azkend and Pathpix demos were awesome, I'll be buying them soon enough

im really interested in seeing how Red Alert does. if just for the sake of their being a familiar RTS game available.

hopefully my roomie gets it and let's me mess around with it. i'd be excited for a DSi port. (screens don't look too far beyond the DSi's capabilities)

Are there any "games" similar to mafia wars or dragon wars or anything like that? I always enjoy web game diversions like that. Click a couple times, come back a few hours later and do it again... it's strangely addicting for me
I play Mafia Wars and Epic Pet Wars. Prefer EPW, which has more 'depth'. Pretty good post-launch support too. If you dig around, you can find treasure codes that are released regularly.

I guess you'd get used to it, and it is true that when you can control something it's different than just watching.

I have about $6 of iTunes credit, I guess I'll pick this up while it's still on sale.

edit: I got used to it quickly. Damn, this game is SO GOOD. Everyone should get it, it's perfection...and not just "It's an iPhone game so I lower my standards." No, it's a good platformer. And it's $2. Go go go!

Heya!

Didn't see anyone else mention it so I'd thought I'd pass along this little gem Peter und Vlad that was marked to FREE today for John Lennon's birthday.
It's quite polished.. and for the price, a steal.

Also:
Hate to come in here schilling for reviews in iTunes, but version 1.004 of iSR is out and nary anyone's left a rating. So if you have a spare moment we over at Race to the Moon would be much appreciative of a mark. :D

OK WTF, I just bought Mr Driller for .99 cents, and my itunes crashed, and it's acting like I didn't purchase it! Did it just steal my money!?

Redownloading things does make it seem like you'll purchase it again, but when you finally get to the last box to "buy it" and click yes, you'll be told that you're downloading it again for free or downloading this update for free because you already own it.

They really need to rework that though. Should be able to go to your acct info and there should be links there to download stuff again.

Car Jack Streets is now FREE but for this weekend only

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=306712767&mt=8

It's a decent top down GTA-like clone.

Edit: damn slow iTunes store refresh :/ it'll say $2.99 on the page and free in the search but it's suppose to be free this weekend
When I searched, it came up free. After clicking the icon, it stated it was still $2.99. However, once I clicked on the title of the app above the developer's name (Tag Games Limited):

App Store > Games > Car Jack Streets (<----Click on the game title)

It changed the price to Free. I confirmed it was free by going into my purchase history. Downloading now.

Hey guys I need a new game to play this weekend
to distract me from the loss of my aunt =(
. Anyone have any good suggestions for something I can get pretty absorbed in?

Sorry for your loss :(

For a game to get absorbed in, Civ Rev and Monkey Island fit the bill. Same with both Geodefense titles, if that's your thing.

I was just in word ace. It really kind of sucks playing people you don't know.

And the bigger tables seems like I just lose all my money even more quickly. :(

skyburger is fantastic guys, get it. i haven't tried the others yet, but it's a little like tower bloxx and burgertime. or something.

Jeff Getsman mentioned Word ace in the last bombcast btw. Glad he did.

Ha! That was pretty awesome to hear. Brief, but really positive. :D Now I wonder what his friend code is. :D

re: mrkgoo - if you wanna play on the lower-stakes tables (which I do), just go to "Select Table" and play at the 400 or 4K tables. re: no one being on - that's something we're trying to address as well - being able to notify people who are offline that you're playing via push so that you can actually ping your friends and see if they want to play (if they've enabled push notifications, that is).

Is there any good card game (CCG, Guardians or Magic: TG style) on the phone? Apart from Orions? Orions is nice, but the "campaign" mode is downright terrible and duel only uses random decks.

Awesome, I'll check EPW out. Playing ninjas live right now and that's pretty entertaining too. I just hate having to try and find people to add to your clan. Huge hassle since I know no one who plays

So nothing yet about "Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered"? Anyone try it?
Listening to the final Listen Up podcast, I believe John Davison said something about Dave Gibbons coming back and redoing some art and that it was ported by the dudes that put together the original. I don't recall him saying about the interface -- hope I helped out.

Yup. Paid for, tried, LOVE IT. By far my favourite implementation of adventure game controls on the iPhone. Basically, you touch the things that can be interacted with and little icons appear around them for said interactions. It's smooth and easy and very neat indeed. The new art is LOVELY, and the game is just sublime. For this price? Unbeatable.

Hi all, we will be giving away 4 copies of an excellent physics puzzler called Lunarcy. You can enter through Sunday night here

Some additional details on the game here

Meteor Blitz is really fun, but I'm hating the music. Also, the controls are near perfect, but I find sliding my thumbs around the screen all the time to be a bit hard on the pads. Also is it possible to 'wear out' the screen? Doe sit have a special conductive coating or something?

Just started messing around with Epic Pet Wars... seems like I'd really enjoy it except you can only choose four pets from the start (all of which are lame) and the only way I can see to unlock more pets is if you buy them with real money :/ Is that right?

There are still some Promo codes left for Avoid Hitting Piano. The game might be interesting for you, if you are into Beethoven and shortwave spies :D

checkout the beginning of the game

it gets pretty "weird" when you pass 100 points... are there hungarian people here? The game might be for you, too, kilenc hettö egy.

cheers,

Insane graphics and really nice controls. Seems a little flat though based on the demo, plus it's a shameless SSHD clone. Wish Housemarque would do a proper port, but I guess it would end up being $5.
