Eliminate is nuts, even with the accelerated energy, you only get three matches per hour. Energy credits are way too much money.

I wonder what's going to happen with this game.

I fear the people who spend 2 dollars for cell phone ringtones will make it a hit.

Oh fuck I didn't know this was coming to iPhone.

Seems like the screen might be too small though. I loved being engulfed by it on my PC monitor.

Has anyone played Earthworm Jim, Streets of Rage, or Golden Axe on the iPhone? I liked all those games growing up but I'm curious how they feel on a touchscreen.

Yeah. I've tried SoR and GA on a friend's phone, but - crucially - didn't buy them for mine. They aren't great. The conversions are fine, but the controls are horrid. Touchscreen virtual joysticks are almost universally poor, and those are no exception. Earthworm Jim looks pretty, but I'd guess the controls are just as frustrating.

I don't know what happened to it but there used to be a game called Light Jockey on the app store that looks very similar to Auditorium, and it played fine on the screen. Only problem I had was dealing with overlapping circles.

just checked out a new game (free) DropZap on iPhone. Not quite as addicting as Drop7 but still a nice little time waster, have a look!

Also, Galactic Gunner is currently free (haven't tried it yet)

The framerate is awful, it's like 12FPS or something :/

WTF is this? At least describe what the game is if you're going to use GAF as your press release outlet (and potential market research trolling), instead of linking to some ridiculous blog page that has zero info on it except some pretentious phrase.

Hopefully this isn't considered spam; but since we've completed development of our latest game and I was told it's ok to brief fellow gaffers about own work, here I am with some more info.

"We" in this case is me, plus Bliddo of Star Ride fame, Barbara Salvati (here's her page on DeviantArt), DJ Brunito (again, linkie) plus a number of translators, tester and among them a couple of other gaffers (Stoney Mason, Haunted.. Hi!).

The game concept was born when me and wife were spending the last days of her third pregnancy seeing mystery movies / series on TV. I jokingly offered to write a program that could write credible plots while she didn't think it could be possible. Not only it was possible, but now it's a game everyone can play (well, after Apple will have approved it of course), including my wife.

At a first glance it will remind you of Clue / Cluedo meets Phoenix Wright meets WarioWare Inc., three games I loved. I wanted Bliddo on board because Star Ride has some great gameplay (btw, you should play it if you haven't already) so I knew he was the right person to make microgames work. He also took on OpenFeint integration so you will be able to chat with others, brag about your scores and achievements.

The game complete title is "Jacques and Stella's Mystery Files Club: La Dolce Vita", because it's all about two young detectives questioning supects and examining evidence with the player's help.

title-en.jpg

There's a PDA in the game, which will help keeping track and making sense of all the clues (e.g. you will need to position suspect markers in the rooms of the building basing on the clues you've obtained, and the PDA will validate your guess.. How cool is that :)). At first it was to be an iPhone but then I came to my senses and made it a generic PDA.

The above shot is from the Italian version -- since there's a bunch of stuff to read, we've translated it into German, French, Italian, Spanish and of course English.

We've really worked hard on this game, to make the original concept come through unscathed, also because it's uncertain if we will make other games. If this is our first and last, it will have to be GOOD.

One of the things I like the most is that the content is presented like a kaleidoscope: everything is procedurally generated; families, their relationships, people appearance, the buildings where the cases are set, even the background and music of the microgames are chosen randomly among a set of predefined ones. Even case titles, something that never gets old (for me, at least):

case-en.jpg

Another thing I like is that the game is varied and fun. We have nine microgames and some could also pass for minigames, with nice touches on them. For example, in the "land the spaceship" game, a chibi version of the female detective pilots the ship and, when there's no fire coming from the engine (hence, free fall), she panics. So cute!

ikit-en.jpg

There's a number of modes centered around minigames for when players will not have time / brains to spend on the main game, plus leaderboards for each mode and trophies (achievements) for the main mode.

What else? Well, OpenFeint support means you can chat with other people, even if they're playing other games (OF is a sort of Live! / PSN environment) and see how well they're doing.

There's probably more and now I'll start my round of PR with all the media outlets out there (btw if you are one of them, please contact me and I'll send you material! Thanks!) but first I wanted to write this on GAF. I almost made a new thread, you should be all thankful I didn't. haha!

Looking good! Glad I could be of help, sounds like it was a nice collaborative effort from several GAFers.

Best of luck Max/Bliddi/Barbara. :)

Thanks, it's been a pleasure working with you -- look for your name in the credits. :) Will pass compliments to the rest of the "offline from gaf" team. :))

Has this thread become the "advertise your game thread"?

Truth to be told, I don't expect to sell many copies to GAFfers, if any; I just thought I could brag about having made a game since it's an accomplishment in itself and this is, well, a forum about videogames.

Sorry about having annoyed you all, if I did!

Looks like it but I don't really mind. To be honest, I'm so overwhelmed by the number of iPhone games released every week that I haven't bought any at all for the last few months, with BASS being the exception. But I find it increasingly hard to keep with what is actually a decent game and what's worth a look -- I don't know. I mean, it's great that essentially anyone can develop and release a game so easily, but on the other hand, I think, Apple needs to find some kind of solution to give me a better idea, what's worth my money right now? I visit TouchArcade from time to time but even that doesn't really help. Maybe it's just me though.

Yeah, There's way too many products showing up on the iPhone and no amount of research (unless you are entirely way too dedicated!) will help you sift thru the good vs the bad at this point. Frequenting sites like TouchArcade (or this here thread) is a decent way to get a general idea of what's going on though. Another quick and clean way to see what's hip is to check the top 100 list at appshopper.com

I predict the store (and iPhone scene) will remain quite messy for some time, but in the next year I think you will see a ton of the smaller dev's with their me-too games pulling up their stakes as they realize that their time/efforts are wasted for the pennies they are receiving in exchange (if even that much!)

In the meantime, despite the disorganization and ridiculous over-saturation of product, it is an absolutely wonderful time to be gaming on the iPhone. It's not hard to find several apps which are worth your time - many making novel use of the unique UI of the device - built with quality, and will barely cost you peanuts.

I've slowed down my purchases to try and get a handle on my iPhone backlog. Honestly, I still spend most of my time with Defender Chronicles.

Obligatory "Where the heck is Warpgate?" post goes here.

This may be old news but Glyder is a good game, kind of Pilotwings-esque. You're a girl with these Davinci style wings, and you fly around this strange world picking up crystals. Simple but satisfying.

What other games would I like?

They are making a sequel to this game, kind of hope they add plus+ or something though.

I uh...grabbed this. I don't know why.

Not having played COD5, I think this has potential with the repairing defenses and upgrading weapons shit but man am I struggling with the controls.

Wish it was 99c though, the web version was free. :(
The web version was only a demo. It only featured a few levels. The full one has 70+ levels and is 10.99.

2.99 is a fair price for what they're offering in my opinion.

Chuck Norris: Bring on the Pain came out this morning for 99 cents. The virtual stick feels like it's a bit too small, but it's a surprisingly solid beat-em-up.

Blocked, which is like those traffic puzzles where you have to get the car out.

Drop 7 has elements of it but is more Tetris like.
