My company's (LeftRight Studios) new iPhone game sneaked on to the App Store recently. It's called KatchUp and it's $0.99 for a limited time. It's kind of a time management game where you work two conveyor belts and keep crazy things from making it into your ketchup.

Just got a chance to play it and it's fun little diversion. It reminds me of a minigame you would find in Sony's Work Time Fun for the PSP. Graphics are good and clean, and the touch controls work well. I would say it's definitely worth the $1 they're charging now (especially to support a fellow GAFer).

I was an OpenFeint critic at first, but damn if that service hasn't improved by leaps and bounds. Jetcar Stunts and Hook Champ have really gotten me addicted to improving my times on leaderboards and earning achievements, and any half decent game really improves from its implementation. I'd suggest all devs utilize it in future games.

What I really wish is for some of my old favorites (Drop7, Isotope, Meteor Blitz and Alive4Ever among others) would go back and throw it in as well. It REALLY improves replayability from my experiences.

I only have one friend on there right now though. I'm sure there is a post or thread somewhere about this, but an other OpenFeint fans around? My username is ShowDog if you wanna compete in anything.

Is there compendium of the best $0.99 games anywhere out there? So far I've only bought a 15in1 game collection and MGStouch, which is pretty great. I couldn't believe it was only a dollar when Tetris is five bucks or so.

Tetris was on sale earlier. MGStouch is on special right now. There are lists out there, but the games that aren't normally at 99c are seldom on those lists. The point is, it's easy to dismiss apps until they are 99c. I just say pay what you think the app is worth to you.

I basically got over paying a few bucks for apps - I'll pay it if I want to play it. I tend to have such a backlog, that I tend not to buy too games unless it's a must play for me anyway.

EA is having a special promotion - each day they will discount one of their apps until Christmas. I'm a big fan of what EA has done on the iPhone.

Also check out appventcalendar.com which is promising a free app per day until Christmas.

How are the Iphone doing in Japan?
Just wondering if we will see more Japanese games, like RPGs.
Most of them have simple controls so it would not be that difficult.

Would love to see some sort of Phantasy Star collection.

Guys and girls, buy OMG Pirates! it's amazing and like a pocket castle crashers. Great combo system too. you get a green and red button, green is block, reversal and jump depending when you press it and if you are moving, and the red button is attack but you press it in different rythems to do different strings. Very good game overall.

I really wish square enix would use their expertise gained with the iPhone to port over final fantasy tactics a2 :o

they already have the crystal defenders games based off of it. Maybe they're waiting until a2 sales die on the ds first?

Song Summoner is pretty good, you should check that out for some SRPG action.

Hills and Rivers Remain looks decent, anyone love/hate it?

People wont pay more than 10/15 bucks for iPhone games and SE wont sell those "big" games for that cheap, so dont expect 30/40 bucks ds/psp games on the appstore anytime soon...

That's why I said when sales die. A2 is going to fade into obscurity sales-wise, its not an evergreen title. Eventually it will make sense profit-wise to port it over.

MC:sandstorm just had it's MP patch released, I think now is the time for me to lay down that £3 and play.

4 players max, 2 on 2 or FFA, CTF also I think unless they removed it. Reminds me of my online Q3 DC days :D

A bit OT:
Pandora Box now supports Push notifications!

I still pref App Miner since it is a bit less buggy.

who cares? are you really that shallow that you want credit because you informed gaf of a patch? at least if you're gonna do it right, wait until the new page starts as opposed to posting at post 46 cause hardly anyone will see it because the majority of gaf users the inferior 50 posts per page.

but its coo, i didnt think gameloft where actually gonna deliver on this but they did so thats sweet considering MC is the best fps + controls on the ipod.

I honestly don't give a shit... I just found it funny that he pretty much posted exactly what I did.

The one time I don't read back a page I repeat someone :lol

Online search is broken due to too many people playing or something, I played a few games with people at TA by making a room and them joining me via player search, it actually plays quite well and I like it but 4 people are required for a nice game, 1 on 1 is way too slow.

Samurai Way of the Warrior is free today!!!

iTunes
JUST bought that on Friday, while bored at work.

Every damn time I wait for an app to go on sale...seems I can't out-wait the dev's patience and buy it...and literally the next day it's less than what I paid. Has happened with 4 apps so far. But whatever...it's a good game and I was glad (at that moment) to get it finally.

Dayum....thanks for the heads up with that Costanza. I wasn't even thinking twice about that game.

Sloooow download. 279mb's should have bought it on my laptop. Guess I won't be leaving my house for a bit longer than I anticipated :p.

I bought it after he said that. It was fine. It was probably the iTunes server he was directed to didn't have the change/upload complete yet.

I'm in the US, California.

Where in the world are you?

Apple's server redirection is a hassle some times. You have no real control over which one you hit (it tries to pick the ones with the least traffic and best pings). of course it's also possible that you just need to reboot your device if you're trying to buy it off of the phone directly or relaunch iTunes (and kill the iTunes helper if that's running). I've had the trouble before where on my phone I couldn't buy something because it was being modified but on my laptop it was fine. And vice versa.

He said for the next 20 hours, so I'd just give it some time.

I'm on the east coast of the US. I tried my touch and my mac and got nothing on both. And if you think 279mb is bad, try downloading an HD episode. I just bought a season of House to see how it looks in HD before buying all of the ones on sale and it's saying 2 hours remaining. I hope the sale doesn't end tonight. :/

Woah, fuck. cobra command is 280MB. Is it worth $1.20AU?
I think virtually everything is worth a buck just to try it out. Cobra command is not what I expected but I can see it should be fun.

A tutorial would be nice, but it takes the "learn from dying" thing going on, which ain't too bad unless you were kinda far in, because them you have to do it all again.

Dissappointed that I can't directly control the chopper, but it looks fantastic...and yes it's fun. The tilt control is terrible for me though, but it can be switched off thankfully (I tried tilting down 4 different ways and never avoided the debris) Easily worth a buck. Worst case it rubs you the wrong way...and your out a buck :p.

i'm going to post this in here, mainly because it's an app that actually rewards you like a game would, and it really appeals to my achievement-happy gamer side:

i've been using an app called gowalla for a couple of days, and it's really interesting. addictive even, because it's a restaurant/entertainment guide with ACHIEVEMENTS :lol yes, the app rewards you for countless things accomplished around the city by giving you a reward badge and findable 'items' left by people who visited the same spot (and all the badges and items are absolutely beautiful little rendered icons, very cute).

web.jpg

web.jpg

when you launch the app, you're presented with a list of nearby spots (restaurants, galleries, etc.) through gps, and if you're actually at one of the spots, you can press the 'check in' button. when you check in, you can drop an item in your stash, and when someone else checks in, they can trade an item in their stash to pick it up.

web.jpg
web.jpg

you're actively encouraged to create a new spot (complete with a description and a nice little icon you can choose that suits it) because you're rewarded for different thresholds you cross (created 5, 10, 50 spots rewards, i installed gowalla award! :lol ), meanwhile making the app flourish in the process, a great idea.

web.jpg

there's even a kind of 'event' section of the app, where they give you a kind of scavenger hunt/road trip kind of laundry list of places to visit, and once you check in to each spot in the list, you unlock that reward too. they all go in your gallery, really beautiful icons. the 360 achievement ocd syndrome is kicking up in me with this app :lol

The Modern Combat multiplayer update is so worthless. I have UPNP enabled on my router, but it keeps giving me an error like I don't and I can't even log on. People who can login apparently can't even get a game in anyways. Gameloft halfasses everything.

Navy Patrol: Coastal Defense is FREE today only (normally $2.99)!!

(it isn't downloadable right now though, currently being modified)
hmmm it's showing up as $0.99 to me

edit: when I clicked through it was free.

if ur on the iphone I hear it works better if you turn everything but your wifi off.

Has anyone played Cosmo yet?

I am interested in that game but I haven't seen any reviews for it yet, it's fairly new, anyone that has the game... can they tell me a thing or two about it please?

EA sale item today is Wolfenstein RPG for 99 cents (US).

Finally clearded my backlog (mostly), so I grabbed this and 99 cent Cobra Command.

I also agree that Cobra Com's tilt controls are [markmcdonald]teeeerrrrrrrible[/markmcdonald].

I am, yet again, burned by the iTunes pricing policy. Last night I decided to buy Cobra Command, take a gamble. It cost me £2.59 or something. I played it this morning in bed, and then went to the computer, and the price has plummeted. BRILLIANT THANKS EVERYBODY INVOLVED.

The game is okay.

I'm thinking of buying Ninja Honda Karate, and Beat It! Anyone tried these?

Also, I checked the videos for Red Conquest. OMG, the game will be great.

NHK is rubbish but with really charming aesthetics, and Beat It was great fun for the first two levels of the tutorial until it crashed on me, wouldn't progress and now won't load.
