Release date?

Trying to submit mid April. We've stumbled upon a pretty bad game-breaking bug, and it seems to have to do with some core function in GL. Not sure if we can fix it. :(

I just released an update for Tumbledrop which should fix unreliable loading on iphone 3G. I'll be submitting 20 more levels for free within the next couple of days. They're all done, there are just a couple of bugs to fix! I'm super proud of the new level designs, they require more 'solving' than the existing levels, and I think they'll drive some people insane.

Are there any good apps for FTPing or otherwise uploading images/photos? I'd really like a convenient way to upload my images for inclusion in posts like this without faffing with iPhoto or email.

I love Tumbledrop! It's SO CUTE!! :D :D :D

Edit: No worries, just figured it out. I'd tried that but I suppose I wasn't being precise enough with my dragging to bring up the other options. This is a cool little game/toy, in a pretty different way to the PS3 version.

Anyone with Noby Noby Boy - How do I get him into GPS, etc and use the paint function? As far as I can tell, other than the camera control the only options are the toy button, camera, music and clock. Forgive me if it's really obvious, I'm new to the whole iPhone thing and have been taking in so many cool apps... :)

would you suggest to play zenonia 1 before 2? or is there no coherent story?
Storywise? I don't think so. I haven't really played more than a few minutes of 2 so far, but I think you'll be okay. But it's not like Zenonia sucks. It's a little grindy but still one of the best iPhone apps.

And in a strange twist of fate, I find that the virtual dpad works better on the iPad than the iPhone. You get used to it on the iPhone but it's a little awkward. I guess making it bigger makes it fit my thumbs better. Unfortunately, the first person shooters like Rise of the Triad and Duke Nukem are unplayable scaled up on the iPad.

I actually played this last night on a developer's iPhone. It is absolutely stunning. Prepare to be blown away. The new iPhone mode is very nice. I don't know how they've got it so silky smooth, but it is clearly a lot smoother than anything else on the iPhone right now. Cave are programming gods.
Was this on a 3GS?

I don't know if they're good, but searching for FTP brings up some uploaders that may work for you.

New screen of sorts, possibly bigger/better resolution/better response time or something. Thats the last I heard. Expected not to be as mindblowing as the last few updates, but you never know.
The rumored double (technically quadruple) resolution would be nice but I'm taking that with a big grain of salt for now (that's extremely high DPI, even compared to the other high res phones), otherwise I'd be happy with the other likely stuff like faster CPU/GPU. The only other rumored big feature things are front facing camera (video chats) and HD video recording and playback.

One somewhat far out possibility is LTE support...which would let them call it the "iPhone 4G" without nerds going berserk. There's one phone that just came out with LTE support, and it uses an LTE/CDMA combined chip...which means it can technically work on Verizon. That's the only way I can see the recent Verizon rumors coming true basically. Apple ain't going to go out of their way to support them (like making their own phone model), but if it happens to come as a feature of a chip they have, maybe it'll happen.

I haven't updated to the latest version yet, but I'm guessing it's still the same. Just swipe the button area left or right, theres like three or four more sets of buttons (including one to the left of the main set).

So, Wolphram-alpha dropped from 50$ to 2$... anyone know what the difference between the app and just using safari? Because math can be as fun as a real game :D

None. It's a portal and it was always a portal.

Peronthious said:

not entirely true.

graphs are formatted much better on the native version. I got weirdly squished graphs when looking for, say, country GDP or unemployment information when on the iPhone in safari.

also, you get an extended keyboard for mathematical notation.

Yeah, I quit a game today when I realised they always put down 6-7 tiles. I think the appeal is the 'with friends' that I trust not to be dicks with it. Another game seemed fine though.

A bigger problem is people that stop playing for a long period. One person I was playing with last took a move 8 hours ago. I feel like I'm left hanging somewhat.

How do people even cheat on Words With Friends?

And regarding the latter, you're meant to have several games going at a time, because a turnbased game like Scrabble means not everyone wants to invest the time to finish a game all in one sitting. I know I don't usually.

It's not so much cheating, but if you use computer tools to figure out words you can make with your combination of letters it's a bit less sporting. That's why I like playing with friends, because people wouldn't want to win unfairly.

Oh, I get that, I'm just getting used to it. Also you're playing against people from different time zones pretty often (I'm in the UK) so when people go to bed or work for 10 hours, it's hard to tell whether they've just dropped the game.

Ahh, thank-you!! :D I'm just putting the finishing touches on this update.

Calling someone a cheat just because they play good words is a bit shit. Some people are just good at the game, yeah?

Maybe they were cheating, it's hardly guaranteed though and maybe you should give them the benefit of the doubt.

There's way more to the game than long words too, there are plenty of ways to beat cheats/people with better vocabularies than you - I've done it loads of times.

I predict some creepy behaviour with this game when played on iPad!

(I hope this means we'll get an english language version of the game though!)

the players will still feel lonely when they remember they cant take pictures on the iPad :D

Once September rolls around I'll likely sell the PSPgo and pick up an iPod Touch 4G.

These are the games I have on my radar, but I know there must be a BUTT LOAD of games that I'm just totally unaware of:

Lumines: Touch Fusion
Peggle
Scrabble
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Plants vs Zombies

What else do I need to keep an eye on? Platformers? Puzzlers? Music games? FPS?

Is the Crash Team Racing knockoff any good?

Some lesser known gems on the app store:

Space Miner, Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor, The Hero, Angry Birds, Canabalt, Edge, Soosiz, Tumbledrop, Sword and Poker, Devil Invasion, Word Ace/Card Ace, Robocalypse, Wolfenstein RPG, Radio Flare/Redux

Great! Thanks for the list.

Is there a decent version of SimCity that's currently out or one that will be coming out over the course of the next few months?

I just updated Tilt To Live and then ended up playing it for an hour.
I think the update made the controls better and I finally unlocked most of the weapons. Shit is fun now.

I'd like to recommend Solomon's Keep (currently 0.99) here. It's a fun dungeon romp meets dual stick shooter game. You play a wizard and as you level up, you can choose your skills and "build" yourself as either a Magic Missiles dude, lightning, or fireballs. The combat take a little getting used to and the game crashes once in a while but it is a lot of fun. Give it a try!

Looks like a pretty neat Gauntlet clone.

Any Gigawing type games that are good? I got a few, but they depend on the accelerometer to move. Which is yuk.
Sky Force series is finger movement like Space Invaders: Infinity Gene.

According to the ESPGALUDA II press release that has just gone out:
Platforms: iPhone 3GS / iPod touch (Late 2009/End 2009 32/64GB models)
Price: 1000 yen, but 600 yen for the first three days at launch
Release date: 10 April

Shame I won't be able to play it, but I hope to be upgrading to the 4G whenever that comes out anyway.

Edit: Website is open now too: http://www.cave-world.com/en/games/espgaluda2.html
Yeah, it uses OpenFeint for ranking and achievements too :)

Buttload on here: http://hippotrouble.com/iphonedb/games/
You can filter/sort by genre and whatever other stuff, or add your own later when you get the phone. Prices (and possibly features) may be off since those were just the ones at the time the person posted the game.

Doh same here. I'm getting an iPad...but the 3G one so even then I'll have to wait a few weeks after it comes out. Hope the OpenFeint doesn't suck it up.

This game crashes like crazy for me on my iPhone 3G! Also, on the one time it did work I wasn't that impressed with the gameplay, I was very disappointed :( I don't like the controls, and it just felt slippy and unenjoyable.

Been addicted to Words with Friends. Invite "---> CzarTim" if you wanna get served.

Also, Fifa 2010 is pretty good, but I find the A/B buttons to be a bit awkward in positions.

Canabalt & Drop 7 are still my favorites.

Moxie is an interesting word game, for .99 it's a good time waster.

You too, huh? :lol You might want to sell the Go now, if there's a price drop you're hosed.

I haven't tried it myself, but I heard Lumines on iPhone is terrible and unplayable.

Lumines is terrible and Tilt to Live is so overrated.

It does not cease to amaze me how some of these games are so highly praised.

90% of the time, you get what you pay for.

To the guy wanting to sell the PSP Go, you should hang onto it.

I tend to agree; most iPhone games aren't very good. It seems like most are rushed and few go very deep.

I can't blame developers though. With a price point of under $5 expected, it's hard to justify putting a ton of resources into it. Especially when it could very easily get buried under a sea of fart apps.

I'm sure I'll get hosed, but I'm hanging on to it for now since I still play SOCOM, Hot Shots Golf OT2, and Wipeout Pulse. Plus, I'm curious about what Sony's plans are at E3, but yeah...I have a 16GB M2 card so hopefully the package I offer will still net me a few dollars ;)

Hmmm I don't think Lumines is that bad at all. I think it had something broken about it when it came out that was fixed in an update so maybe that's what you're referencing (I only got it post-update). You tap to rotate and swipe to drop. Presents a unique and fun challenge imo. Had a good time getting all golds on the challenges on the base and comic packs although a touch disappointed they haven't released more skin packs since.

Fishing Kings is out now from Gameloft, I will probably get this, $2.99.

Also Ice Hockey Nations comes out at midnight for $3.99 full fledged hockey game.

Where would I find a list of good RPGs? Nothing in the OP and on touch arcade clicking RPG brings up blog posts tagged as RPG and I'd rather not read through all of them since the newer ones probably won't run super well on my older model touch

I assume some post in this thread has a rpg roundup or something

Disagree on the Lumines front... the controls are just fine (not being able to rotate either direction sucks) and the music/look of the game is damn close to the console versions.

Dear Tilt To Live Haters,
What's your high score? How many weapons have you unlocked?
The game gets so much better once you have a real chance of staying alive.

When I first downloaded the game, I played for like 5 minutes and didn't like it much at all.
The other day an update came out (which I think may have fixed some of the controls and definitely made the UI a little better) and I've been playing the shit out of it since.

there are Tilt to Love haters? weird. but yes, it gets exponentially better as you play, and proportionally more addictive.

I loved it before, now I'm kind of lukewarm on it. I unlocked all the weapons fairly quickly (...and they shouldn't be unlocks in the first place but that's another topic) and played like crazy for a week or two. My high score is 11 million (top 10 or 20 back then), I haven't wanted to play all that much since then.
rocksolidaudio said:

It's better up to a point then it gets worse personally. My main problem is the same as a lot of other endless type games, the shit just takes too damn long. Once you get pretty good at it you can regularly go over 4-5 minutes, and if you're really good you end up like the guys higher up on the leaderboards...last I played there was a guy over 60 mil, and another over 100. I have no interest even trying to challenge that because it's not fun to me at that point, it's basically why I've wanted a time attack mode for it (I even have ranty blog posts about it!).

The other thing is that takes a minute or so to ramp up the difficulty, so it starts out pretty boring. Code Red in the upcoming update fixes that part at least...but it's still and endless mode. You know some jackass is going to last forever and get some insurmountable high score.

After my post a few days ago, I've literally accumulated a wishlist of about 20-25 games that I would buy day one of my iPod Touch purchase. This is nuts. I had no idea there was so much out there.

Yeah, I noticed there is only one expansion pack right now.

sucks

I'm still pumped about playing Lumines, though. Now I just need to find a good golf game.

Damn, I've been sucked into 'those' games. Started We Rule and I'm playing like four family members in Words With Friends. :lol

For whatever reason, Q hasn't released any skins for PSN, XBLA, or iPod in forever. I don't know how well the iPod release did though. Like I mentioned earlier, it apparently had some game-killing control issue at release so maybe word-of-mouth just sort of killed it. If you are a Lumines freak like me though you'll get a kick out of it.

I think Let's Golf is what you're looking for.

Yeah I noticed that one, but is the framerate choppy? The power/accuracy bar looked painfully slow. Maybe it's hard to tell from a video, though.

I noticed Tiger Woods 11 will release sometime in June, but if the driver/iron sound effects aren't fixed (they are currently swapped) and the super ease of most previous Tiger Woods games aren't ironed out, I might just give Let's Golf a shot.

Can you play Words with Friends against a computer?
Most of my friends don't have iPods or iPhones but I've found myself really fancying a good game of scrabble over the past few days.
