Puzzle Quest is exactly the same as the DS/PSP/XBLA versions, except it's only 1/3rd of the game. I'd still recommend it because it's fucking Puzzle Quest.

OMGZ - Wat? Puzzle Quest is out? Only 1/3rd of the game? Details? Which 1/3rd?

*goes back to read thread*

EDIT: WTF is this chapter 1 bullshit?

:(

Don't know if want.

I would have preferred if they charged me whatever they are charging on PSN/XBLA for the whole damn thing.

So I got a Touch for Christmas, and I'm slightly ovewhelmed by the amount of apps out there. I'm looking for some suggestions of what to get or try out.

I found toucharcade which is a pretty good site in terms of some reviews and info, but I'd like to hear from other users.

So far I've got:

Vay (Sega CD yay, never finished this)
Orions (neat little card game)
Tap Defense
Tap Tap Revenge (the free one)
Hangman
Aurora Feint (the free one to try it out)

keep reading this thread. there's lots of great suggestions in here and in the other"what to buy" thread on the gaming side (do a search)

simcity and rolando are both great new games that came out last week.

if you like tower defense games, there's 7 cities and fieldrunners.

I also like
Trace,
Motion X Poker quest,
1112 (point n click adventure),
wurdle,
tetris,
scrabble,
touchgrind (v. hard but totally unique and cool),
touchphysics,
i love katamari,
x-plane,
toy bot diaries

some of those games have free demos.

have fun.

Can't go wrong with any of these:

Rolando
Dropship
Amateur Surgeon (trauma center clone)
Tiki Towers (best 99 cents you'll spend on the app store)
Snail Mail
Sim City
Pathways
Puzzle Quest

oof, I thought puzzle quest would be a slam dunk on the iPhone but if they split it up just to milk the moneys to the max, I might be back to considering the PSP version for download.

I was sooo excited to see that Puzzle Quest was out, then I hit the brakes as soon as I saw the chapter 1. So did anyone actually buy the game?

So, I just spent some, low quality, time with puzzle quest. I have to say, this game should have been a slam dunk easy port to the iphone. Well, they managed to screw it up. The game has all the characters from challenge of the plague lord, but only part of the missions from warlords. You can't see the items, money, or experience you or your opponent have. Controls are not as tight a bejeweled 2. Also all the artwork is also super scaled down. I am a huge puzzle quest fan, and I think if you want a portable puzzle quest experience you should get the game for DS or PSP.

Yeah, I'm hoping so. I picked this up and I have to say it isn't too bad but the text is almost impossible to read.
Shitty port or rushed? text is unreadable, 40 secs. or more of loading time, and choppy framerate, i wouldn't recommend it to anyone but the hardcore pq fans that need a fix on lunch break or something.

Luckily that loading time is only when you boot the game. Everything else is super fast.

But yeah, this port is definitely a lot worse than it should be. Still worth the $10 IMO

is there any app out there that can back up my entire iphone? referring to the apps/settings/themes/sms/contacts?

i only know of programs that does 1 aspect per app not really one that can back up the whole phone.

Just wanna say Fastlane Street Racing kicks ass for 3.99 It just got an update today that's supposed to make it easier to play (it's hard as hell) and adds camera tilt to help you see where you're going when you tilt the damn screen to steer. I haven't tried the update yet. The graphics are very nice for iPhone, like crappy Dreamcast quality. It's the best game I've tried to far. Tapdefense and that puzzle game with the strange name, ummm... Aurora Feint Beginning (free) are pretty cool as well. I'm actually starting to become quite impressed by the games offered on the iPhone, whereas just two or three weeks ago I thought most everything was shit.

Next up I want to try Katamari (supposedly the new patch makes it run just fine), SimCity and Rolando.

I have Ferrari GT: Evolution and Asphalt 4 both are pretty good. Asphalt is more like Burnout and Ferrari is more simish to a degree but the only way I can control either with an adequate degree of skill is to use the two hand steering method where you touch the side of the screens in both games to steer.

Dr. Awesome is pretty sweet. I've always loved Qix games and this is a pretty good one and it controls terrificly.

See I haven't tried any other racing games that cost money, so I don't know how Fastlane compares. I may try Asphalt at some point, but I'd rather try other stuff first since I already got a racing game.

WTF? What bullshit is this?

/ hangs head in shame

Good God, the text in Puzzle Quest is small and blurry. Swapping gems isn't as smooth as it is in Bejeweled but the game is still a lot of fun. Sigh, I feel like a sucker though.

Picked up PuzzleQuest. Was a huge fan of the DS version. Played it, beat it, loved it.

That being said, what a horrendous port to the iPhone. Unresponsive touch controls (expect to wait a bit sometimes when you first get into a menu... it seems like you'll be able to touch menu options, but it doesn't register for about 3 - 4 seconds or so.

Actual map interface is to be expected. It looks and functions fine.

The battle interface is chuggalicious. I mean, even on the DS version there were some hitches. But it's really bad here.

Text is hard to see, especially when you're selecting a spell to use. Gotta squint (and I have better than 20 / 20 vision here!). Using a Bard since using the Mage was easy-peasy for the DS version and selecting a spell, takes me awhile to read what it does!

That being said, I'll echo Costanza and others - it's Puzzle Quest. It's a fricken awesome game. But it's most definitely not the definite version.

i've played most of them iracers (bar the ferrari one), and fastlane is a rare specimen actually offering the right experience - the framerate and controls feel like a racing game, and not like a proof of concept. the game is a racer, alright.

Don't. Asphalt's junk. I bought it expecting a somewhat decent DS/PSP-type racing game but got a crappy mobile racing game instead. The sounds effects are particularly horrible.

I'll have to try Fastlane. I like Asphalt. I quite enjoy it so I'm curious to see Fastlane if it's that much better.

I might get Fastlane too. I saw a video of it on TouchArcade and it looked great, although I was a little concerned that turning required such a sharp tilt of the phone.

Bold proclamation time: Tap Tap Dance is the best game on the App Store. BLOWS away TTR and NiN edition; better graphics, less lag (although it's still there, unfortunately), better note tracking, better track selection (arguable, but it is for me!), amazing boss stages, better difficulty progression, triple-taps & holds, the ability to turn off the arrows... Give it a shot if you've been on the fence or even if you haven't. Only negative is the somewhat small tracklist (10 songs), but for 5 dollars you can't ask for much more.

Said list:

Midnight Madness - Chemical Brothers
Compressor - Soul Magic Orchestra - TTD exclusive
Where's Your Head At - Basement Jaxx
Technologic - Daft Punk (boss stage on EASY)
Daylight (Morgan Page Remix) - Sunny Levine - TTD exclusive
Zdarlight - Digitalism
Disco Lies (Dusty Kids Fears Mix) - Moby (boss stage on MEDIUM)
Stratosphere - Junkie XL
Goldrush - Tiesto
Phantom Pt. II (Soulwax Remimx) - Justice (boss stage on HARD) - Simply amazing!

Protip: Play with the dock through an external audio source & nice sub!

Got some games yesterday. People have posted about them before but here are my impressions anyway:

FastLane Racing - Graphically, it blows Asphalt away. It's almost like a low-budget Ridge Racer with the same music and style. I was having a hard time controlling it, especially when drifting, but I haven't given up on it yet.

The Price is Right - For just a few bucks, you can have a pretty good experience of the game show in your hand. Amazing. Sure, it's not a deep game or the coolest or most innovative thing, but if I can play Plinko and all the other pricing games as well as spin a faithful reproduction of the big wheel all on my phone, again for just a few bucks, call me a happy camper.

Fieldrunners - Umm, WOW. I read some posts about the game but only really checked it out yesterday. The amount of fun I had playing the game was well worth the low cost. What a fantastic game. Hoping for more maps and characters and stuff.

Wurdle - I love, love, love this Boggle-type game. I can already see myself playing this and Bejewled over and over again when I eventually lose interest in other games. The presentation and amount of options make it feel like a more expensive game, so for word fantatics, it's a steal.

Still haven't gotten around to getting Monopoly though. Would have been an instant buy if it was the classic edition.

And what's the gameplay of 1112 like? Is it like Hotel Dusk on the DS?

Anyone else buy Samurai Puzzle Battle? Touch Arcade described it as Risk + Puzzle Quest, which immediately caused my finger to click buy. :lol

I'll post impressions later if anyone cares.

I'm going through withdrawals. The App Store has been shut down until the 28th for Christmas.. and that means no new apps.

I was going to say catch up on the ones you already have, but then I remembered who I was responding to. :lol

Did you play Passage yet? What a freaky sad little game.

Actually I've "played" that on PC many times, but I still bought it and plan to keep it on my Touch. :)

I downloaded Snail Mail today, man, what an awesome little game that is.

Just got HydroTilt, as well, which is equally great.

See, these are the sort of games I want on iPhone, not the majority of shit that is up there at the minute.

So, I've never actually played Puzzle Quest. (I know, I know.) Should I bother getting the iPhone one? Everyone was going apeshit for it before... What do you guys think?

Other than that, any good games out within the last few days?

Oooh, so that's why it feels like I'm not seeing anything new.

I found this while playing tap defense... Saturday Night Fever Dance. It plays like Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents, and I was soooo close to buying it, but according to this review, it only has 4 songs :(.

I just got a new Touch for Christmas!! It is the sweets. Skimming the thread for gems I should look at (though I doubt I'll buy much at the moment).

I downloaded those free Hudson games a while ago (I think there were three of them?), but I seem to have misplaced them. I hate that I can't redownload them via iTunes. \:

Am I missing out, or is it okay that I lost the files? D:

bad art.

yeah, i love EBA but that game looks like ass. I can stand the disco kitsch but the package looks horrible. I'm hoping there'll be some better EBA type games out there after Xmas. More songs, less vomit-inducing character models.

YOU CAN! go to the store and click "buy app" it'll tell you that you already bought it and it'll re-download for free. only music and videos can't be re-downloaded.

I finally got around to updating my hacked iPhone from 1.2 to 2.2 today (imported from US to EU last year).

App Store is such a winner.

Downloaded Aurora Feint and Lightsaber so far + shareware Quake 1 via Cydia.

Anyways, I'm quoting the above because I was always fearing that Apple would bend us over drm wise for software but I'm so glad they made the smart choice and went for infinite redownloads. Now I feel safe spending money on this.

Yeah, it's very strange how flexible they are with Apps compared to Music, but I guess they have their reasons (yeah, right!).

Apple controls the App Store and all distribution. The RIAA and the Studios "compromise" with Apple on the music DRM rights. They wouldn't allow Apple to do multiple downloads before, and they probably won't any time soon, unfortunately.

The App Store is the first example of Apple being able to do whatever they want with no interference from outside Media providers.
